This paper proposed a new IMC-PID controller design method using the loop shaping method. By the application of the loop shaping method for IMC-PID controller which has only one design parameter and guarantees internal stability, we can not only consider such design specifications as gain margin, phases margin, and sensitivity functions but also obtain the loop gain by setting up the relationships between design specifications and design parameters. A systematic method to select design parameters of IMC-PID controller in order to meet the design specifications is suggested and its effectiveness is examined by the case study and analysis.
This paper deals with a design of nonlinear glide slope capture logic using dynamic model inversion in singular perturbation, which is applicable to the autolanding in ILS. Aircraft dynamics are separated into the fast time-scale variables, related with the inner-loop design, and the slow time-scale variables, related with the outer-loop design. It is assumed that the aircraft starts landing at 1000ft of altitude, -2.5deg of flight path angle, and 250ft/sec of velocity. In the outer-loop design, commands of altitude and velocity are selected and thereby the pseudo-controls of power level and pitch rate are determined. Also the elevator input to the aircraft is determined in the inner-loop design. The final design is evaluated in 6 DOF simulation model of the associated aircraft, in which the actuator models are not included. The results show the satisfactory autolanding ...

Quantitative Feedback Theory(QFT) has been used to design a robust power system stabilizer(PSS) to improve transient and dynamic stabilities of a power system. This design technique is basically accomplished in frequency domain. The most important feature of QFT is that it is able to deal with the design problem of complicated uncertain plants. A basic idea in QFT design is the translation of closed-loop frequency-domain specifications into Nichols chart domains specifying the allowable range of the nominal open-loop response and then to design a controller by using the gain-phase loop shaping technique. This paper introduces a new algorithm to compute QFT bounds more efficiently. The propose QFT design method ensures a satisfactory performance of the PSS under a wide range of power system operating conditions.
When a cold HPSI (High Pressure Safety Injection) fluid associated with an design basis accident, such as LOCA (Loss of Coolant Accident), enters the cold legs of a stagnated primary coolant loop, thermal stratification phenomena will arise due to incomplete mixing. If the stratified flow enters a reactor pressure vessel downcomer, severe thermal stresses are created in a radiation embrittled vessel wall by local overcooling. Previous thermal-mixing analyses have assumed that the thermal stratification phenomena generated in stagnated loop of a partially stagnated coolant loop are neutralized in the vessel downcomer by strong flow from unstagnated loop. On the basis of these reasons, this paper presents the thermal-mixing analysis results in order to identify the fact that the cold plume generated in the vessel downcomer due to the thermal stratification phenomena of the stagnated loop is affected by the strong flow of the unstagnated loop.
Quantitative Feedback Theory (QFT) is one of most effective methods of robust controller design and can be considered as a suitable method for systems with parametric uncertainties. Particularly it allows us to obtain controllers less conservative than other methods like $H_{\infty}$ and ${\mu}$-synthesis. In QFT method, we transform all the uncertainties and desired specifications to some boundaries in Nichols chart and then we have to find the nominal loop transfer function such that satisfies the boundaries and has the minimum high frequency gain. The major drawback of the QFT method is that there is no effective and useful method for finding this nominal loop transfer function. The usual approach to this problem involves loop-shaping in the Nichols chart by manipulating the poles and zeros of the nominal loop transfer function. This process now aided by recently developed computer aided design tools proceeds by trial and error and its success often depends heavily on the experience of the loop-shaper. Thus for the novice and First time QFT user, there is a genuine need for an automatic loop-shaping tool to generate a first-cut solution. In this paper, we approach the automatic QFT loop-shaping problem by using an algorithm involving Linear Programming (LP) techniques and Genetic Algorithm (GA).

A loop duct system is often found in a VAV-HVAC(variable air volume heating, ventilating and air conditioning) design. It is known that the simple T-method is not be applicable to the loop duct system and cannot be used to calculate the flow rate and the pressure drop at each duct section of the loop duct system. In this paper, the extended T-method has been developed and it is found to be applicable to the loop duct system to which the simple T-method cannot be applied. The validity of the extended T-method has been verified by using to solve for a simple, ideal loop duct system for which there exists analytical solution. In addition, the extended T-method is employed to compute the loop duct system of a real building with an area of 380$m^2$. The results show that the computed flow rate at the exit differs from the designed flow rate by a range of -13.6~43.5 %. Consequently, three design factors must be adjusted in order that the flow rate may be balanced. These include the duct sizes, in terms of their lengths and diameters, the sub-duct locations and the positioning of damper which is found upstream of the exit duct.

This paper presents a design and implementation of a PID feedback control loop for micro gyroscope. The feedback control loop improves the gyroscope performance such as linearity, bandwidth, and bias stability for micro gyroscope which is basically a high-Q system and exhibits a low performance with an open loop control. The designed and implemented feed-back control loop is applied to the SNU-Bosch MEMS gyroscope to demonstrate the improvement with the feedback control loop. The bandwidth is improved to 60Hz from 25Hz of open loop control. The linearity becomes 0.5% from 1%. The bias stability is improved to 0.03 deg/sec from 0.06 deg/sec.

A new method of designing multi-loop PID controllers is presented in this paper. By using the generalized IMC-PID method for multi-loop systems, the optimization problem involved in finding the PID parameters is efficiently simplified to find the optimum closed-loop time constant in a reduced search space. A weighted sum Mp criterion is proposed as a performance cost function to cope with both the performance and robustness of a multi-loop control system. Several illustrative examples are included to demonstrate the improved performance of the multi-loop PID controllers obtained by the proposed design method.

A ground loop heat exchanger for the ground source heat pump system is the important equipment determining the thermal performance and initial cost of the system. The length and performance of the underground heat exchanger is dependent on ground thermal conductivity, operation hours, ground loop diameter, grout, ground loop arrangement, pipe placement and design temperature. In this study we find out heat exchanger length with various design factor.

This paper proposes the generalized structure of a model-based disturbance rejection controller called a Robust Internal-loop Compensator (RIC). The framework consists of the RIC in the internal-loop to eliminate disturbances and a feedback controller in the external-loop to achieve nominal control performance. As the main contribution of this paper, we redefine the design problem of the RIC as a regulation control problem, then show that this new definition with the RIC structure provides more design flexibility and less implementation constraints. This is verified through a comparative structural analysis with Disturbance Observer (DOB) and Adaptive Robust Control (ARC). Two design examples of the RIC are given, along with practical issues that should be considered in the design procedure. The proposed framework is demonstrated by simulations of a rotary-type motor and experiments with a linear-type motor system.
