In this article, the buckling and free vibration of multi-directional FGM sandwich plates are investigated. The material properties of FGM sandwich plates are assumed to be varying continuously in the in the longitudinal, transverse and thickness directions. The material properties are evaluated based on Voigt's micro-mechanical model considering power law distribution method with arbitrary power index. Equations of motion for the buckling and vibration analysis of multi-directional FGM sandwich plate are obtained based on refined shear deformation theory. Analytical solution for simply supported multidirectional FGM sandwich plate is carried out using Navier's solution technique. The FGM sandwich plate considered in this work has a homogeneous ceramic core and two functionally graded face sheets. Influence of volume fraction index in the longitudinal, transverse and thickness direction, layer thickness, and geometrical parameter over natural frequency and critical buckling load of multi-directional FGM sandwich plate is investigated. The finding shows a multi-directional functionally graded structures perform better compared to uni-directional gradation. Hence, critical grading parameters have been identified which will guide researchers in selecting fabrication routes for improving the performance of such structures.
Carbon nanotubes are drawing wide attention of research communities and several industries due to their versatile capabilities covering mechanical and other multi-physical properties. However, owing to extreme operating conditions of the synthesis process of these nanostructures, they are often imposed with certain inevitable structural deformities such as single vacancy and nanopore defects. These random irregularities limit the intended functionalities of carbon nanotubes severely. In this article, we investigate the mechanical behaviour of double-wall carbon nanotubes (DWCNT) under the influence of arbitrarily distributed single vacancy and nanopore defects in the outer wall, inner wall, and both the walls. Large-scale molecular simulations reveal that the nanopore defects have more detrimental effects on the mechanical behaviour of DWCNTs, while the defects in the inner wall of DWCNTs make the nanostructures more vulnerable to withstand high longitudinal deformation. From a different perspective, to exploit the mechanics of damage for achieving defect-induced shape modulation and region-wise deformation control, we have further explored the localized longitudinal and transverse spatial effects of DWCNT by designing the defects for their regional distribution. The comprehensive numerical results of the present study would lead to the characterization of the critical mechanical properties of DWCNTs under the presence of inevitable intrinsic defects along with the aspect of defect-induced spatial modulation of shapes for prospective applications in a range of nanoelectromechanical systems and devices.

Compressive flanges of steel box girder is designed based on the ultimate strength behavior of sub-panel which is enclosed with longitudinal stiffeners and transverse stiffeners on appropriate safety factor. However, it is rational that the ultimate strength is calculated considering the various factors such as number and stiffness of longitudinal stiffener, spacing of transverse stiffener, initial deformation and residual stress distribution. In this study, an analysis program based on Folded Plate theory is developed considering the geometric effects and the material nonlinearity. The analysis program is applicated to the steel box girder bridges which is really constructed in domestic.

This study used FEM(Finite Element method) based on micro-CT images to see the effects of occlusal force distribution with varying bone density and structure. the mandibular premolar region from human cadaver, thickness of 10mm was imaged using micro-CT. the cross sectional images were taken every $10{\mu}m$. these were reconstructed and the longitudinal image at the mid point of mesiodistal of the speciman was obtained for the specimen for the FEM. The stress disribution produced by a vertical force at 100N and 100N horizontal were analyzed by MSC Nastran FEM Package. according to the result of this study the occlusal force distribution depends on the structure of cancellus bone and for further information on the occlusal force distribution on the tooth and the surrounding structure requires further studies on cancellus bone structure. CEJ of all model show the highest peak and region whice meet teeth and bone show second high peak. Original model and cortical bone add model show different stress distribution. Stress distribution changed according to bone structures and densities.

In this paper, the Flow Control Fin(FCF) optimization has been carried out using computational fluid dynamics(CFD) techniques. This study focused on evaluation for the performance of the FCF attached in the stern part of the ship. The main advantage of FCF is to enhance the resistance performance through the lift generation with a forward force component on the foil section, and the propulsive performance by the uniformity of velocity distribution on the propeller plane. This study intended to evaluate these functions and to find optimized FCF form for minimizing viscous resistance and equalizing wake distribution. Four parameters of FCF are used in the study, which were angle and position of FCF, longitudinal location, transverse location, and span length in the optimization process. KRISO 300K VLCC2(KVLCC2) was chosen for an example ship to demonstrate FCF for optimization. The optimization procedure utilized genetic algorithms (GAs), a gradient-based optimizer for the refinement of the solution, and Non-dominated Sorting GA-II(NSGA-II) for Multiobjective Optimization. The results showed that the optimized FCF could enhance the uniformity of wake distribution at the expense of viscous resistance.
The object of this study is to propose the Flexural moment-curvature relationship based on the bond property between concrete and steel for noncracking zone, to evaluate the flexural displacement of reinforced concrete member. The bond-slip relationship and the strain hardening effect of steel were taken into consideration in order to evaluate the spacing of the cracks and the curvature distribution. Calculated curvature distribution along the longitudinal axis was transformed into equivalent curvature distribution. The flexural displacement was calculated by means of double integrals of the equivalent curvature. Furthermore, 34 beams were tested in order to verify the proposed procedure Calculated values agreed well with the experimental data, and so it is pointed out that proposed method is widely acceptable for the practical evaluation of flexural displacement of reinforced concrete member.
It is well established that arteries are subjected to residual stress. Due to the effect of residual stress, the arteries open to a horse-shoe shape when a longitudinal cut is made on an excised arterial segment. Previously, the residual stress has been quantified by the opening angle of the horse-shoe shape. We have employed a finite element analysis of the open arterial segment to restore the same to the original cylindrical shape and computed the circumferential strain as well as the stress distribution in the wall. In this study, the stress distribution in the femoral arteries of miniswine was computed with and without the residual stress for a range of transmural pressures. Our analysis showed that the residual stress has the effect of redistribution of the circumferential stresses between the intima and the adventitia under physiological loading. The redistribution of the stress with the inclusion of residual stress may be important in the studies on effect of wall stresses on the endothelial and vascular smooth muscle cells.

In this paper, the electron transport characteristics in $CF_4$ has been analysed over the E/N range 1~300[Td] by a two-term approximation Boltzmann equation method and by a Monte Carlo simulation. The motion has been calculated to give swarm parameters for the electron drift velocity, longitudinal diffusion coefficient, the ratio of the diffusion coefficient to the mobility, electron ionization and attachment coefficients, effective ionization coefficient, mean energy, collision frequency and the electron energy distribution function. The electron energy distribution function has been analysed in $CF_4$ at E/N=5, 10, 100, 200 and 300[Td] for a case of the equilibrium region in the mean electron energy and respective set of electron collision cross sections. The results of Boltzmann equation and Monte Carlo simulation have been compared with experimental data by Y. Nakamura and M. Hayashi. The swarm parameter from the swarm study are expected to serve as a critical test of current theories of low energy electron scattering by atoms and molecules, in particular, as well as crucial information for quantitative simulations of weakly ionized plasmas.

This study was carried out to verify the distribution patterns of Salix gracilistyla and Phragmites japonica communities known as obligatory riparian species according to physical factors such as micro-landforms, substrates, etc., at Soo-ip stream corridor. Firstly four vegetation types - Salix gracilistyla dominant type, Phragmites japonica dominant type, mixed type of two species, and mixed type of two species to other species, were classified by cluster analysis based on UPGMA-Euclidean distance. Also these vegetation types showed many different distribution patterns in response to the longitudinal and lateral view along the stream corridor and substrate composition. Salix gracilistyla was major component of dominant vegetation types developed at attack point of bending reach and on substrates composed of rock fragments, but contrastly Phragmites japonica was most important component of dominant vegetation types at point bar of bending reach and floodplain, and on substrates composed of soil materials. Secondly the species and environment biplot form CCA strongly supported the vegetation types divided by classification. Namely Salix gracilistyla was closely correlated with rock fragments and steep slope, which is resistant to physical action even though located near running water. But Phragmites japonica showed a high correlation with soil particles sedimented at floodplain by divergent flow.
In general, a three dimensional ground behaviour during tunneling is simulated by using two dimensional analysis programs in consideration of a certain ratio of stress or strain distribution to take into account the effect of construction stage by a tunnel face advance. A series of trree dimensional analyses was conducted to deduce a normalized displacement (surface or crown settlement) curve in longitudinal direction, of which curve is reflecting an effect of a tunnel advance under a various condition. And, by using try and error technique, two dimensional analyses were carried out to determine an optimum stress distribution ratio for a settiement curve coincided with the curve obtained by three dimensional analyses. Finally, monitored results from a subway tunnel were compared with two dimensional analysis results for varification of the deduced stress distribution ratio as well as the two dimensional analysis program employed in this study.
