Build-operate-transfer (BOT) projects are privatized infrastructure undertakings that face long-term investment risks and uncertainties. To ensure these projects can be completed on time and operated according to performance specifications, governments usually require BOT concessionaires to furnish performance bonds as a security. However, in order to attract investment, governments often provide abandonment rights for concessionaires to deal with investment risks and uncertainties. In the context of real options, these abandonment rights will increase project value, but the furnish of performance bonds will reduce this value. Currently in the BOT context, there is no real option model that can handle explicitly the impact of performance bonds on project value. In this paper, a real option valuation model is derived to deal with this important issue. The Taiwan high-speed rail project is used as a case study to show the applicability of the proposed model.
Recently, fast-growing up railway transportations. Because, regional traffic congestion problem solving and a period of rapid expansion to meet the demand of industries. In addition the government also suggest to new paradigm for the future 'Low Carbon, Green Growth' is presented as a new national vision. To meet the social needs and the time demands, Last of the railway increase very long tunnels and huge deep tunnels. Especially this trend accelerated high speed up in the tunnel, the revision of design criteria and research challenges are being actively improved. Mainly in the tunnel cross-section was under the control of the vehicle train speed 150km/hr by the construction of the vehicle cross-section of the tunnel. More than 200km/hr rail tunnel depending on the vehicle's speed caused the tunnel to the pressure fluctuations will be governed by the aerodynamic changes. Considering the economy to ensure the optimum cross-section of the railway tunnel to the description scheme is selected cross-section of the railway tunnel to determine the size domestic or international railway tunnel for the elements((based on fast Algorithm design criteria, the center line spacing, streetcar line, cross-sectional shape, sectoral issues, such as interface and aerodynamics) based on design practices and to review results. In this study, to propose guidelines depending on the size of a railway tunnel cross section for the size of the determining reasonable factors when designing the railway tunnel and cost-effective standards guidelines.

The objective of this work presented here was focused on analysis of development trend for the integrated power system of naval vessels to perform the high-power and energy mission load platform. These mission loads are affected by the high level of military technologies, digitalization of the ocean battlefield, high power sensor system for maximization of the ship survivability. All electric power including propulsion power for ship should be controlled by integrated single system in order to carry various high power density weapon system such as Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System, Electromagnetic Rail Gun[feasible precision striking at long distance 200NM(370km) or over]. As the analyzing the present state of things, mechanical propulsion system is shifted into hybrid or fully electric propulsion systems to realize integrated power system at the developed countries. Such challenges include reduced dependency on foreign-supplied fossil fuel, increasing demand for installed ship power, controlling life-cycle costs.
The transitional zone between tunnel and earthwork is one of the most vulnerable areas site for railway lines and because of differential settlement due to different stiffness of each supporting layer, it has to conducted a maintenance work constantly. In this study, it is conducted to compare the effect of reinforcement by wheel load and displacement of the sleepers after existing sleepers are replaced with the large sleepers for 20m long in-field transitional zone. Also, numerical parametric study using multi-layer elastic method has been performed to compare rail force, settlement and stresses of ballast while varying size and space of the sleeper. The field test and numerical results show that replacing the large sleepers improves about 10% of total settlement and coefficient of wheel force than conventional sleepers. Effectiveness of improvement is about 9.3%, 4%, 14.5% for rail seat force, settlement of sleepers and ballast pressure respectively with size of sleepers.

Generally, an EMU (Electronic Multiple Unit) is manufactured by assembling a large number of components and parts with extensive raw materials. Throughout its entire life cycle, much both the complicated system and long operating period. Therefore, it is necessary to the environmental performance of EMUs from raw materials to waste. In this study, RACE (Rail Assessment for Clean Environment) was developed as the software that can analyze the environmental RACE had several LCI (Life Cycle Inventory) database for main components as well as principal materials in EMUs. In the future, RACE can also be used as a tool for environmental communication between manufacturers and operators. Also, we will improve RACE continuously to assess more easily the environment of rolling stocks EMU for user.

The Trans-Central Asian Railway consists of the Trans-Caspian Railroad, the Kazalinsk Route, the Turk-Sib, and the Trans-Kazakhstan Trunk Line. Currently, one-fifth of the residents in Central Asia are living around these railroads on which 70% of the economic activities in the region depends. The construction of the railroads in Central Asia was motivated by the Russian Empire's competition 'with its maritime rival, the United Kingdom, over the Eurasian heartland in a geostrategic sense. Using the railroads, the Russian Empire aspired to connect its central industrial regions in European Russia with the remote frontier areas in the Central Asian republics and to increase economic specialization of the region. After the breakdown of the USSR, however, the rail network, which had well been linked among the regions in the former Soviet nations, has been in a deteriorated linkage with their non-Soviet neighboring nations. Despite a lot of problems to be solved, the Trans-Central Asian rail network is expected to play a crucial role as a land bridge between East Asia and Europe as well as between Russia/the Baltic sea and the Indian Ocean/the Persian Gulf in the long-term.

With speed up of railway, the demand for safety of the railroad transportation is on the increase in Korea's conventional railways. In additions, freight trains with heavier axle load are required to run conventional railways. In order to solve these requirements, the increase of rail weight and the application of long rail system have been underway in conventional railways. However, the research on ties that is absolutely influencing the track stiffness in ballasted tracks has not been much progress. In this paper, the new H-typed tie is developed to increase the track stiffness and reduce the track irregularity. And from the structural analysis by FE program, the intial design drawing of the new H-typed tie is proposed.

The opening of High-speed Rail provides convenience to move a long distance quickly, and the passengers of high-speed railway have been steadily increasing each year. Since the high-speed rail is far more expensive than other transportation, providing high quality service over just the high speed is required. Accordingly, much effort is made to improve service quality. However these services have been focused on general passengers so we should introduce a new service system to meet personal preferences of passengers. Therefore, in this paper, we introduce integrated railway service systems to provide service which follows the individual needs of passengers and is based on RFIDs (Radio Frequency Identification).
In the case of the railway bridge, there are following the progress of works after the drainage method of a bridge surface - vibration proof rubber establishment, track gravel construction and rail construction etc. But these works are not enforced consecutively by the execution and economical reason. This is the reason of the long period of exposure after drainage execution. In many case, from the deterioration phenomenon by long term exposure of surface, there are a lot of occasions that do not keep primitive penetration depth waterproof primitive time. It is the most important that select the drainage method that have durability - it is not fallen in long-term exposure of surface. The major objective of this study is to deduce objective analysis result through examination about the Deterioration Restraining Agent method and to master KNOW-HOW of DRA drainage method. Through the study, minimize economical damage by frequent repair and reinforcement and present the reasonable standard of judgement fot drainage method of construction.

This paper reports the development of a theoretically rigorous method for permanent way engineers to assess the condition of railway ballast under a concrete sleeper with the potential to be extended to a smart system for long-term health monitoring of railway ballast. Owing to the uncertainties induced by the problems of modeling error and measurement noise, the Bayesian approach was followed in the development. After the selection of the most plausible model class for describing the damage status of the rail-sleeper-ballast system, Bayesian model updating is adopted to calculate the posterior PDF of the ballast stiffness at various regions under the sleeper. An obvious drop in ballast stiffness at a region under the sleeper is an evidence of ballast damage. In model updating, the model that can minimize the discrepancy between the measured and model-predicted modal parameters can be considered as the most probable model for calculating the posterior PDF under the Bayesian framework. To address the problems of non-uniqueness and local minima in the model updating process, a two-stage hybrid optimization method was developed. The modified evolutionary algorithm was developed in the first stage to identify the important regions in the parameter space and resulting in a set of initial trials for deterministic optimization to locate all most probable models in the second stage. The proposed methodology was numerically and experimentally verified. Using the identified model, a series of comprehensive numerical case studies was carried out to investigate the effects of data quantity and quality on the results of ballast damage detection. Difficulties to be overcome before the proposed method can be extended to a long-term ballast monitoring system are discussed in the conclusion.
