  • This study is to identify the growth rate and volatility of logistics related firms in the stock market. To do this, we used monthly data for 197 years from June 2000 to October 2016 by selecting KOSPI and Transport & Storage(T&S), KOSDAQ, Transportation(TRANS) index. The purpose of this study is to compare the T&S and TRANS stock index returns with the KOSPI and KOSDAQ index. And we are to judge whether the development potential of the logistics industry and the value of the investment of related companies in the future is high. For this purpose, we will analyze the basic statistics, correlation and growth rate of each index, and compare T&S and TRANS with market returns. Analysis result, for the past 197 months logistics related T&S and TRANS have been higher than market returns. The correlation was highly related to TRANS and T & S in KOSPI, but it was not related to KOSDAQ. TRANS represents high risk and high return, while KOSDAQ represents high risk and low return market. TRANS is considered to be an efficient investment. We expect the future development of logistics related industries and T & S and TRANS to show a high rate of increase compared to the market returns.

  • DMSMS(Diminishing Manufacturing Sources and Material Shortage) of weapon systems is caused by required increase in system life cycle and reduction of military electronic parts market share. This problem causes serious problems about Combat readiness and Life-cycle cost. In this paper, we review the method for managing the DMSMS and then suggest effective alternatives to reduce the risk of DMSMS for weapon systems, such as systematic DMSMS management system and quantitative design refresh planning considering the DMSMS.

  • As discussions of the International Maritime Organization for the introduction of the Marine Autonomous Surface Ship (MASS) began in earnest, discussions were conducted to prioritize cybersecurity (Cyber Risk Management) when developing a system to support MASS operation at the 27th ENAV Committee Working Group (WG2). Korea launched a technology development project for autonomous ships in 2020, and has been promoting detailed tasks for cybersecurity technology development since 2021. MASS operation in a digital maritime communication system environment requires network security of various digital equipment that was not considered in the existing maritime communication environment. This study introduces the basic concept of network security equipment to support MASS operation in the detailed task of cybersecurity technology development, and defines the network security equipment interface for MASS ship application in the basic stage.

  • The aim of this study is to present the importance of Risk Management and Risk Classification System in Supply Chain to cope with the rapidly changing distribution environment flexibly through the cooperation between a shipper and a distribution company. First of all, we considered existing studies related to the risks of Supply Chain Risk and analyzed 47 different risk factors by 18 kinds of risk causing factors. Second, we collected opinions of corporation specialist group based on the analyzed risk factors and then classified the risk factors into three categories and ten sub-categories. Third, we conducted a survey targeting shipping companies and distribution companies about classified risk and then verified the validity of Supply Chain Risk Classification using verification techniques such as Confirmatory Factor Analysis, Concentration Validity and Distinction Validity. Finally, we suggest some implications based on the verification results.

  • This study examined the impact of geopolitical risk on port throughput in Korea. With a high trade-to-GDP ratio, Korea has an open economy. The vast majority of its exports and imports are serviced by maritime transport. Therefore, cargo volume of Korean seaports is highly likely to be affected by changes in global economy resulting from escalation in geopolitical risk. In this regard, this study investigated the relationship between geopolitical risk and port throughput in Korea during the period of 1995-2022. Results indicated that the impact of geopolitical risk on port throughput was not statistically significant. However, the relationship varied by export, import, and ports. Especially, it was revealed that cargo volume of Korean ports was negatively associated with the level of geopolitical risk. In addition, it was also found that geopolitical risk had a negative impact on the unit price of Korean import..

  • This study has done to search for a solution to remove risk limitedly caused by separating weapon system acquisition from operation and maintenance at the view point of Logistic Commander who's responsible for stable operation and maintenance after acquiring weapon system. At the System development stage, unverified overhaul development plan may cause additional manpower and costs after the development, and furthermore it is likely to have risk to lower reliability of the military. Thus, research and development agency should write overhaul development plan at the System development stage, and it should be verified through evaluation and verification test. Secondly, during research and development, institutional supplementation is needed to calculate human and material resources writing overhaul development plan. Thirdly, it should be able to analyze proper operation & maintenance plan and cost for overhaul plan at the pre-investigation stage. Fourthly, the base which can develop overhaul concept and overhaul factors should be included in the need and need determination document. Lastly, for the weapon system which has small amount of high power figure, project management should be performed to be able to specify at the each acquisition level of weapon system to realize Article 28, clause 3 and 4 of Defense business law.

  • In this study, the relationship between Baltic Dry Index(BDI) and maritime trade volume in the dry cargo market was verified using the vector autoregressive (VAR) model. Data was analyzed from 1992 to 2018 for iron ore, steam coal, coking coal, grain, and minor bulks of maritime trade volume and BDI. Granger causality analysis showed that the BDI affects the trade volume of coking coal and minor bulks but the trade volume of iron ore, steam coal and grain do not correlate with the BDI freight index. Impulse response analysis showed that the shock of BDI had the greatest impact on coking coal at the two years lag and the impact was negligible at the ten years lag. In addition, the shock of BDI on minor cargoes was strongest at the three years lag, and were negligible at the ten years lag. This study examined the relationship between maritime trade volume and BDI in the dry bulk shipping market in which uncertainty is high. As a result of this study, there is an economic aspect of sustainability that has helped the risk management of shipping companies. In addition, it is significant from an academic point of view that the long-term relationship between the two time series was analyzed through the causality test between variables. However, it is necessary to develop a forecasting model that will help decision makers in maritime markets using more sophisticated methods such as the Bayesian VAR model.

  • There has been increased interest for cloud computing services that can promote cost savings while increasing investment in information resources. Cloud computing, however, has a disadvantage physically located in the external information resources to take advantage of the economic benefits, the advantages and increase the vulnerability of information protection and control of information assets. In this study, due to the unique properties of the new services, including vulnerability, the vulnerability of cloud computing derive the vulnerability of cloud computing and control items were derived through the mapping between vulnerability and control items, that are not being managed to identify vulnerabilities Cloud computing risk factors are presented.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the present status of falls among inpatients in general hospitals and to identify the fall risk factors that reflect the characteristics of domestic hospitals. Methods: Data were collected between December 15, 2016 and January 15, 2017 from 32 Korean hospitals having 500 or more beds. First, 42 risk factors were extracted based on literature review and expert opinions. Then the importance of each factor was evaluated by 223 nurses from medical and surgical adult ward and intensive care units in 40 hospitals. Results: The incidence rate of falls in 18 hospitals was 3.87 per 1,000 total discharged patients and 0.55 per 1,000 patient-days, and the rate of injury-related falls was 40.5%. Major risk factors for falling were identified as the following: being over 65 years of age, history of falls during admission, physical mobility disorders requiring assistance, physical factors (dizziness or vertigo, unstable gait, general weakness, walking aids, visual problems), cognitive factors (delirium, lack of understanding on limitations), neurological disease, CNS medications Conclusion: The findings provide information that can be in the development of a fall risk assessment tool for inpatients in general hospitals in Korea.

  • Supply chain management (SCM) became a critical success factor for firms. As a result, researchers have carried out related research on SCM. This study aims to explore the research trends in SCM in Korea using network text analysis. We collected the information of 586 articles published in Korean journals using the RISS database, and analyzed the network generated by keywords proposed in the articles. The results showed that there are five research keyword clusters such as logistics, information systems, partnership, risk management, and sustainability.
