  • Internet vendors are gradually realizing the importance of "locking-in" online customers in order to ensure profitability. Erection of switching barriers increases customers'lock-in and in turn may result in their willingness to pay price-premium for the same service. However, raising customer lock-in online is difficult because search costs are very low. Therefore, this study examines the effect of switching barriers (customer satisfaction, perceived value and relative advantage) on switching costs and the effect of switching costs on customer's willingness to pay more. Since switching costs and consequent relationships may depend upon the type of product therefore the research model in this study is examined for both search products and experience products. Data is collected through an online survey from two websites (one each for search product and experience product). The empirical results show the key role of switching costs in customers' willingness to pay more and the relationships among the four constructs. The theoretical and practical implications of this study are also discussed.

  • This paper presents experimental results of the frequency offset locking of He-Ne lasers and the stability analysis. The master laser is free running, and the slave laser is a single-mode operating laser. The frequency difference of two lasers is stabilized to 200 MHz which can be synchronized using PLL servo. The measured beat frequency between two lasers was 200.004 MHz ${\pm}$ 0.15 MHz. The square root of Allan variance as a measure of stability in time domain is also measured. The long-term stability of the beat was worse than sort-term stability. With a gate time $\tau=1000\;s$, the square root of Allan variance was about 1 GHz. The results of the square root of Allan variance of the stabilized beat signal was a gate time of $\tau=1000\;s$, the square root of Allan variance was about 1.5 kHz. The long-term stability was improved by more than several hundred times compared with that without the stabilization.

  • Most of the main memory database systems use two-phase locking(2PL)for concurrency control. The 2PL method is preferred over other methods for concurrency control because of its simplicity and common usage. However, conventional concurrency control solution will function poorly when the data are memory resident. In this paper, we propose a new optimistic concurrency control protocol for a main memory database system. In our proposed protocol, transaction conflict information is used in validation phase to improve data conflict resolution decisions. Our experiments show that the proposed protocol performs better than 2PL in terms of throughput for main memory database system enshrinements.

  • Existing operating systems experience scalability issues as the number of cores increases. The network I/O performance on manycore systems is faced with the major limiting factors of cache consistency costs and locking overheads. Legacy methods resolve this issue include the new microkernel-like operating system or modification of existing kernels; however, these solutions are not fully application transparent. In this study, we proposed a library that improves the network performance by separating system call context from user context and by applying the core affinity without any kernel and application modifications. Experiment results showed that our implementation can improve the network throughput of Apache by up to 30%.

  • We have developed a compact and high-power mode-locked fiber laser for multilayered optical memory. Fiber lasers have the potential to be compact and stable light sources that can replace bulk solid-state lasers. To generate high-power pulses, we used stretched-pulse mode locking. The average power and pulse width of the output pulse from the fiber laser that we developed were 109 mW and 2.1 ps, respectively. The dispersion of the output pulse was compensated with an external single-mode fiber of 2.5 m length. The pulse was compressed from 2.1 ps to 93 fs by dispersion compensation. The fiber laser we have developed is possible to use as a light source of multilayered optical memory. We also present a fiber confocal microscope as an alignment-free readout system of multilayered optical memories. The fiber confocal microscope does not require fine pinhole position alignment because the fiber core is used as the point light source and the pinhole, and both of which are always located at the conjugated point. The configuration reduces the required accuracy of pinhole position alignment. With these techniques we can present an all-fiber recording and readout system for multilayered memories.

  • In this paper a new clock generation scheme for TDM-CDM converter in the Gap Filler for satellite DMB systems has been proposed. The scheme uses the frame sync signal from the Ku band TDM receiver to lock the VCXO which provides the system clock for the TDM-CDM converter. The locking algorithm can be easily implemented in the FPGA, so that no separate circuitry is needed as in conventional PLL. With a stable OCXO, The scheme can be used to generate the reference clock to the local oscillator for RF parts.

  • We have experimentally demonstrated a Direct Optical Switching (DOS) CDMA for future wide-band mobile communication systems at the 40 ㎓ band by using orthogonal (crosscorrelation $\leq$2) unipolar type codes with code length of 16 and chip rate of 2.5 Gcps for radio-over-fiber (RoF) systems. Pulse-amplitude-equalized 40 ㎓ laser pulses were provided by rational-harmonically mode-locking a 10 ㎓ fiber ring laser.

  • The Internet of Things (IoT) is a rapidly growing physical network that depends on objects, vehicles, sensors, and smart devices. IoT has recently become an important research topic as it autonomously acquires, integrates, communicates, and shares data directly across each other. The centralized architecture of IoT makes it complex to concurrently access control them and presents a new set of technological limitations when trying to manage them globally. This paper proposes a new decentralized access control architecture to manage IoT devices using blockchain, that proposes a solution to concurrency management problems and enhances resource locking to reduce the transaction conflict and avoids deadlock problems. In addition, the proposed algorithm improves performance using a fully distributed access control system for IoT based on blockchain technology. Finally, a performance comparison is provided between the proposed solution and the existing access management solutions in IoT. Deadlock detection is evaluated with the latency of requesting in order to examine various configurations of our solution for increasing scalability. The main goal of the proposed solution is concurrency problem avoidance in decentralized access control management for IoT devices.

  • Firm real time transactions on firm real-time database systems arc discarded when they miss their deadlines. as there is no value to completing them after they miss their deadlines. Several approaches that exploit the semantics of firm deadlines to improve the performance of firm real-time database systems have been proposed in the literature. They are based Oil locking or optimistic concurrency controL The performance comparisons of the two approaches differ with svstems load. In this paper. we develop a novel policy termed stop/resume deferred restart policy, and a concurrency control algorithm based on the policy (temled Altcmativc Version Concurrency Contro). When conflicts : due to Pliority) occur our algmithm maintains the immediately restarted VerSlOn as wpll as the stopped version of a transaction in order to use one of the two to meet the firm deadline. At last we show that our policy generates scrializable schedules and show tbat our algorithm performs better than the traditionally used method for wide ranges of the system load for firm deadline transaction.

  • Database management systems(DMBS)using bolatile memory shluld have a recovery function to protect data against system failutes.Recovery requires much overhead in transaction proessing and is one of the great factors that deteriorate the system performance.Recently, there have been a lot of studies on database systems with nonbolatile memory to enhance the performance.A nonbolatile memory called DFeRAM is one of the promising memory devices of the future technology, but this device does not support fine-franularity licking. In this paper, we present a dual plane FeRAM(DFeRAM)architecture to support the fine-granularity locking. We also propose a recovery algorithm for the database system with the DFeRAM based on a shadow paging methed. In order to analze the performance of the proposed algorithm, we present an analytical model and analyze the performance using the moedl.
