  • This article focuses on a hemispherical resonator gyro driven by the Coriolis effect. A hemispherical shell, called a resonator, is maintained in the resonance state by amplitude control and phase locking control. Parametric excitation has been used to control the amplitude. For rate measurement mode or FTR mode, nodal points have been kept to an amplitude of zero. Angular rate measurement has been demonstrated by rotating a resonator. Frequency mismatch between two stiffness principal axes is a major cause of low performance: vibrating pattern drift and reduced control effectiveness. This mismatch has been reduced significantly by the addition of small mass. A negative spring effect, which lowers resonance frequencies, has been verified experimentally.

  • In real-time database systems, transactions's commitment done before the given deadlines is more important than just getting the maximum throughput. Transactions missing the given deadlines are no longer meaningful in real-time applications. Therefore, there is a need for new transaction processing models to meet the given deadlines in real-time database applications, because moat conventional transaction models are not designed to meet deadlines. In this paper we propose a new transaction models which uses multiple versions of a data item. The model uses read-from graphs and dynamic reorder of transactions to meet deadlines. A read-from graph contains the past read semantics of read operations and support the model to decide which database operation to be taken. Then, we show simulation results comparing the proposed model with other transaction models such as two phase locking model and the optimistic concurrency control model.

  • Database sharing system(DBSS) refers to a system for high performance transaction processing. In DBSS, the processing nodes are locally coupled via a high speed network and share a common database at the disk level. Each node has a local memory, a separate copy of operating system, and a DBMS. To reduce the number of disk accesses, the node caches database pages in its local memory buffer. However, since multiple nodes may be simultaneously cached a page, cache consistency must be ensured so that every node can always access the latest version of pages. In this paper, we propose efficient buffer invalidation schemes in DBSS, where the database is logically partitioned using primary copy authority to reduce locking overhead. The proposed schemes can improve performance by reducing the disk access overhead and the message overhead due to maintaining cache consistency. Furthermore, they can show good performance when database workloads are varied dynamically.

  • The passive direction finding cross localization method is widely adopted in passive tracking, therefore there will exist masses of false intersection points. Eliminating these false intersection points correctly and quickly is a key technique in passive localization. A new method is proposed for passive locating and tracking multi-jammer target in this paper. It not only solves the difficulty of determining the number of targets when masses of false intersection points existing, but also solves the initialization problem of elastic network. Thus this method solves the problem of multi-jammer target correlation and the elimination of static false intersection points. The method which dynamically establishes multiple hypothesis trajectory trees solves the problem of eliminating the remaining false intersection points. Simulation results show that computational burden of the method is lower, the elastic network can more quickly find all or most of the targets and have a more probability of locking the real targets. This method can eliminate more false intersection points.

  • In brake systems, a proportioning valve(P. V), which reduces the brake line pressure on each wheel cylinder for the anti-locking of rear wheels, is closely related to the safety of vehicles. However, it is impossible for current P. V. s to completely control brake line pressure because, mechanically, it is an open loop control system. In this paper we describe an electronic brake force distribution system using a direct adaptive fuzzy controller in order to completely control brake line pressure using a closed loop control system. The objective of the electronic brake force distribution system is to change the cut-in-pressure and the valve slop of the P. V in order to obtain better performance of the brake system than with mechanical systems.

  • Recently, the growing market demand for small and slim mobile phone cameras requires the size reduction of the camera module. In this paper, an auto-focusing actuator for camera phones is proposed by converting the rotational motion by a rotary VCM actuator into the linear motion using a novel cam structure. This new concept for auto-focusing module enables the reduction of the module thickness and low power consumption. This paper presents the theoretical analysis and optimal design for VCM actuator, cam structure and preload spring. Finally, the experimental results using a prototype with the size of $9.9{\times}9.9{\times}5.9\;mm^3$ are compared with the theoretical predictions.

  • A lock is a general and popular way of serializing accesses to shared data in multiprocessor environments. After the mutual exclusion was first introduced in 1960s, many spinlock algorithms have been proposed and deployed to real systems such as operating systems and (transactional) database systems. In this study, we measure impacts of a lock mechanism on a database system under various CPU configurations using a high-end multicore system. For the evaluation, we use the most up-to-date version of MySQL (version 5.6) with InnoDB engine, which has been substantially re-architected to improve scalability on multicore machines. We changed the original spinlock function of InnoDB to evaluate various spinlock mechanisms on multicore machines.
