Curing Kinetics and Mechanical Properties for Siloxane Contained ETSO-DDM/BPH Epoxy System (Siloxane을 포함한 ETSO-DDM/BPH계 에폭시 시스템의 경화동력학 및 기계적 특성 분석)

  • The curing kinetics and mechanical properties of siloxane-diaminodiphenylmethane (ETSO-DDM) on the two kinds of bisphenol (BPH) system which are DGEBA and DGEBF were investigated with the different contents of ETSO. To investigate the curing kinetics of the ETSO-DDM/BPH systems, differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) was used. The mechanical properties of ETSO-DDM/BPH systems were also examined by universal testing machine (UTM), tensile test and flexural test. From experimental results, the activation energies and mechanical properties of ETSO-DDM/BPH were improved with the decrease contents of ETSO. This was due to the high cross-linking density made from short length of ETSO-DDM, resulting in improving the mechanical inter-locking between ETSO-DDM and BPH in these systems.

Experimental Analyses and Heterodyne Method for Millimeter Wave Signal Generation (밀리미터 신호생성을 위한 헤테로다인 기법 및 실험적 해석)

  • In this paper, We have proposed an Heterodyne technique to generate millimeter-wave signal. Microwave signals in cellular broadband mobile communication networks and distributed networks can favorably be generated and distributed by optical techniques. In principle, these techniques have already been investigated for optical control of phase-array antennas, characterization of photo-detector and phase locking of millimeter-wave oscillators and now being applied to wireless communications. The generation and transmission of millimeter-wave radio signals by optical means is of interest for future pico-cell broadband mobile communication system, especially for systems operating at frequencies of 300GHz.

Seismic response analysis of an oil storage tank using Lagrangian fluid elements

  • Three-dimensional Lagrangian fluid finite element is applied to seismic response analysis of an oil storage tank with a floating roof. The fluid element utilized in the present analysis is formulated based on the displacement finite element method considering only volumetric elasticity and its element stiffness matrix is derived by using one-point integration method in order to avoid volumetric locking. The method usually adds a rotational penalty stiffness to satisfy the irrotational condition for fluid motion and modifies element mass matrices through the projected mass method to suppress spurious hourglass-mode appeared in compensation for one-point integration. In the fluid element utilized in the present paper, a small hourglass stiffness is employed. The fluid and structure domains for the objective oil storage tank are modeled by eight-node solid elements and four-node shell elements, respectively, and the transient response of the floating roof structure or the free surface are evaluated by implicit direct time integration method. The results of seismic response analyses are compared with those by other method and the validation of the present analysis using three-dimensional Lagrangian fluid finite elements is shown.

The inspection and maintenance of pressurizer internal structures by using the tele-operated robotic manipulator in nuclear power plants

  • A pressurizer is one of the major safety related equipment of nuclear power plants. In order to inspect and maintain the internal structures of a pressurizer, jumpers have to enter the pressurizer, in spite of the high dose exposure. Therefore, a tele-operated robotic manipulator has been developed, which consists of four parts with 2DOFs arms, a gripper, base frame, and control console. The task of this robotic manipulator is to extract the damaged electric heaters and inspect the internal structure of the pressurizer. The gripper hanging from the manipulator approaches the heaters and extracts the damaged heater by using a self-locking mechanism. In order to investigate the structural stability of the robotic manipulator, a stress analysis has been performed by using the ANSYS code. The results of this paper include the position control and vibration control of robotic gripper and the development of processing visual information for a vision sensor.

Approximate k values using Repulsive Force without Domain Knowledge in k-means

  • The k-means algorithm is widely used in academia and industry due to easy and simple implementation, enabling fast learning for complex datasets. However, k-means struggles to classify datasets without prior knowledge of specific domains. We proposed the repulsive k-means (RK-means) algorithm in a previous study to improve the k-means algorithm, using the repulsive force concept, which allows deleting unnecessary cluster centroids. Accordingly, the RK-means enables to classifying of a dataset without domain knowledge. However, three main problems remain. The RK-means algorithm includes a cluster repulsive force offset, for clusters confined in other clusters, which can cause cluster locking; we were unable to prove RK-means provided optimal convergence in the previous study; and RK-means shown better performance only normalize term and weight. Therefore, this paper proposes the advanced RK-means (ARK-means) algorithm to resolve the RK-means problems. We establish an initialization strategy for deploying cluster centroids and define a metric for the ARK-means algorithm. Finally, we redefine the mass and normalize terms to close to the general dataset. We show ARK-means feasibility experimentally using blob and iris datasets. Experiment results verify the proposed ARK-means algorithm provides better performance than k-means, k'-means, and RK-means.

  • In this paper, a new clock and data recovery circuit is proposed for the application of data communication systems requiring ㎓-range clock signals. The circuit is suitable for recovering NRZ data which is widely used for high speed data transmission in ㎓ ranges. The high frequency jitter is one of major performance-limiting factors in PLL, particularly when NRZ data patterns are used. A novel phase detector is able to suppress this noise, and stable clock generation is achieved. Futhermore, the phase detector has an adaptive delay cell removing the dead zone problem and has the optimal characteristics for fast locking. The proposed circuit has a convenience structure that can be easily extended to multi-channels. The circuit is designed based on CMOS 0.25㎛ fabrication process and verified by measurement result.

  • The audit logging system is to write the details of systems use and access on networks. These details are used for trailing the route, when illegal access or using system resource is occurred on networks. The logging system therefore, might be the first target of intruder. We developed the logging system which writes the information of logging and command execution on UNIX system. And we prepared the self-protecting functions of blocking intruder's attack on the logging system. They are protecting the logging process and the log file. To protect the logging process, we made it keep changing the process ID to avoid the intruder's attack. To protect the log file, we use hard link and mandatory file locking, so it can make it impossible to delete or change log file.

  • Automobiles and systems requiring high gear ratios and high power densities generally use worm gears. In particular, as worm gears have a small volume and self-locking function, home appliances such as refrigerators and washers consist of worm gears. We can classify worm gears into cylindrical worms and rectangular worms. According to the AGMA standard, there are four types of cylindrical worms, ZA, ZN, ZK and ZI, depending on the machining of the worm shaft. It is preferable to use a ZI-type worm shaft, which is a combination of a worm wheel having an involute helical tooth surface and a conjugate tooth surface. However, in many cases, industries mostly use ZK, ZN, and ZA worm shafts because of the ease of processing. This paper presents numerical approaches to produce ZI and ZA worm surfaces and worm wheel. For the analysis of the transmission error of a worm gear system, this study (1) generates surface profile functions of ZI profile worm gear and worm shaft based on the common rack theory, (2) adopts the Newton-Raphson method for the analysis of the gear surface contact condition, and (3) presents and compares the corresponding transmission errors of ZI and ZA worm gears.

Structural Design and Performance Evaluation of a Mid-story Seismic Isolated High-Rise Building

  • This paper describes some of the challenges for structural design of a mid-story seismic isolated high-rise building, which is located near Tokyo station, completed in 2015. The building is a mixed-use complex and encompasses three volumes: one substructure including basement and lower floors, and a pair of seismic isolated superstructures on the substructure. One is a 136.5m high Main Tower (office use), and the other is a 98.5 m high South Tower (hotel use). The seismic isolation systems are arranged in the $3^{rd}$ floor of the Main Tower and $5^{th}$ floor of the South Tower, so that we call this isolation system as the mid-story seismic isolation. The primary goal of the structural design of this building was to secure high seismic safety against the largest earthquake expected in Tokyo. We adopted optimal seismic isolation equipment simulated by dynamic analysis to minimize building damage. On the other hand, wind-induced vibration of a seismic isolated high-rise building tends to be excited. To reduce the vibration, the following strategies were adopted respectively. In the Main Tower with a large wind receiving area, we adopted a mechanism that locks oil dampers at the isolation level during strong wind. In the South Tower, two tuned mass dampers (TMDs) are installed at the top of the building to control the vibration. In addition, our paper will also report the building performance evaluated for wind and seismic observation after completion of the building. In 2016, an earthquake of seismic intensity 3 (JMA scale) occurred twice in Tokyo. The acceleration reduction rate of the seismic isolation level due to these earthquakes was approximately 30 to 60%. These are also verified by dynamic analysis using observed acceleration data. Also, in April 2016, a strong wind exceeding the speed of 25m/s occurred in Tokyo. On the basis of the record at the strong wind, we confirmed that the locking mechanism of oil damper worked as designed.
