  • The RR protocole, proposed in IETF mip6 WG and standardized by RFC 3775 at lune 2004, send a message 'Binding Update' that express MN's location information to CN safety and update location information. Standard RR protocole has some problems with initiating the protocol by the MN; it causes to increases in communication load in the home network, to increases communication delay between MN and CN. Also, is connoting vulnerability to against attacker who are on the path between CN and HA in security aspect. This paper proposes doing to delegate MN's location information update rights by HA new location information update method. That is, When update MN's location information to HA, Using MN's private key signed location information certificate use and this certificate using method that HA uses MN's location information at update to CN be. It decreases the route optimization overhead by reducing the number of messages as well as the using location information update time. Also, remove security weakness about against attacker who are on the path between CN and HA.

  • In this paper, we analyze a time-based update method in location management and calculate the optimal time-interval. We obtain the probability that an MT is j rings away from the center cell. And using these values, an exact analysis is made for the time-based location management cost. From the result, when the time-based method is applied to location update, we can get the optimal time-interval which minimizes the location management cost.

  • In this paper, we propose a new location acquisition scheme based on RFID that reduces the computation cost of location acquisition and keeps the accuracy of the location. In addition, we propose an incremental location update policy to reduce the location update cost for moving objects. To show the superiority of our proposed scheme, we compare it with the existing researches. It is shown through various experiments that the proposed system reduces the computation cost of location estimation 500 times more than existing researches. Also, the proposed system significantly reduces the cost of location update using the RFID-based update policy.

  • One of the most important issue in location-aware computing is tracking moving objects efficiently. To this end, an efficient protocol which updates location information in a location server is highly needed. In fact, the performance of a location update strategy highly depends on the assumed mobility pattern. In most existing works, however, the mobility issue has been disregarded and too simplified as linear function of time. In this paper, we propose a new mobility model, called state-based mobility model (SMM) to provide more generalized framework for both describing the mobility and updating location information of complexly moving objects. We also introduce the state-based location update protocol (SLUP) based on this mobility model. Using experimental comparison, we illustrate that the proposed technique is many times better in reducing location update cost and the communication bandwidth consumption.

  • A continuous object is large phenomenon diffusing continuously. Therefore, a large number of sources is a major problem in researches for continuous object. Existing studies for continuous object detecting focus on reducing communication cost generated by the sources. But, they only deal with the static sink located in fixed position. In this paper, we propose the location update scheme for mobile sinks in continuous object detecting. Generally, to receive data, a mobile sink should notice its current location to sources. Previous studies for location update of mobile sinks consider individual object. So they need a lot of energy for location update when a mobile sink notices its current location toward many sources of a continuous object independently. Proposed scheme exploits regional locality of the sources involved one continuous object. The regional locality makes the location update of mobile sinks efficient. Our simulation results show that the proposed scheme superior to existing schemes in terms of energy efficiency.

  • In the Reporting Cell Location Management (RCLM) system, a subset of cells in the network is designated as the reporting cells. Each mobile terminal performs location update only when it enters one of these reporting cells. When a call arrives, the paging is confined to the reporting cell the user last reported and the neighboring bounded non-reporting cells. Frequent location update may result in degradation of quality of service due to interference. Miss on the location of a mobile terminal will necessitate a search operation on the network when a call comes in. We must decide the number of reporting cells and which cell should be reporting cell to balance the registration (location update) and search (paging) operations to minimize the cost of RCLM system. This paper proposes a simulated annealing (SA) for optimization of RCLM system.

  • This study investigates two basic operations of mobility management of PCNs (Personal Communication Networks), i.e., the location update and the paging of the mobile terminal. From the realistic consideration that a user either moves through several cells consecutively or stays in a cell with long time, we model the mobility pattern by introducing two types of CRT (Cell Residence Time). Mobility patterns of the mobile terminal are classified Into various ways by using the ratios of two types of CRT. Cost analysis is performed for distance-based and movement-based location update schemes combined with blanket polling paging and selective paging scheme. It is demonstrated that in a certain condition of mobility pattern and call arrival pattern, 2-state CRT model produces different optimal threshold and so, is more effective than IID ( Independently-Identically-Distributed) CRT model. An analytical model for the new CRT model is compact and easily extendable to the other location update schemes.

  • Location area planning (LAP) problem is to partition the cellular/mobile network into location areas with the objective of minimizing the total cost in location management. The minimum cost has two components namely location update cost and searching cost. Location update cost is incurred when the user changes itself from one location area to another in the network. The searching cost incurred when a call arrives, the search is done only in the location area to find the user. Hence, it is important to find a compromise between the location update and paging operations such that the cost of mobile terminal location tracking cost is a minimum. The complete mobile network is divided into location areas. Each location area consists of a group of cells. This partitioning problem is a difficult combinatorial optimization problem. In this paper, we use particle swarm optimization (PSO) to obtain the best/optimal group of cells for 16, 36, 49, and 64 cells network. Experimental studies illustrate that PSO is more efficient and surpasses those of precious studies for these benchmarking problems.
