The inverse problem about the theoretical analysis of a drill string bending in a channel of an inclined bore-hole with localized geometrical imperfections is studied. The system of ordinary differential equations is first derived based on the theory of curvilinear flexible elastic rods. One can then use these equations to investigate the quasi-static effects of the drill string bending that may occur in the process of raising, lowering and rotation of the string inside the bore-hole. The method for numerical solution of the constructed equations is described. With the proposed method, the phenomenon of the drill column movement, its contact interaction with the bore-hole surface, and the frictional seizure can be simulated for different combinations of velocities, directions of rotation and axial motion of the string. Geometrical imperfections in the shape of localized smoothed breaks of the bore-hole axis line are considered. Some numerical examples are presented to illustrate the applicability of the method proposed.

In this study, structural developments of polypropylene / ionomer / clay ternary composites were investigated depending on the dispersion and localization of clay. The changes in physical properties were observed adding organoclays 1~10wt% to 90% polypropylene and 10% ionomer blends. The organoclays were localized inside of the dispersed phase under the composition of 3wt%, however, over that composition, clay particles formed stiff network structure in the dispersed phase and additional clays were localized at the interface between two phases. According to the developments of microstructure, the interaction of ternary composites changed from polypropylene-ionomer to polypropylene-ionomer and ionomer-clay which affected rheological properties. The storage modulus (G') of the composites was similar to the blends when clays were localized inside of dispersed phase but increased when clays were localized at interface. Also, the fractured morphology of the composites showed phase boundary and growing radius of dispersed phase depending on addition of fillers when clays were found inside. However, when fillers found at the interface between blends, the radius of the dispersed phase decreased and compatibilized morphology were observed. The interfacial interaction of the ternary composite was quantified depending on the structural development of dispersed phase and localization of clay particles by the rheological properties. The interaction of composites at solid state which was measured through peel adhesion strength increased by growth of interfacial interaction of each component. Furthermore, the crystallinity of the composites was decreased when the clay particles were localized at the interface.

The most distinguishing character of diluted magnetic semiconductors (DMSs) is a strong interaction between sp-carriers and localized d-spins (sp-d exchange interaction). Recently many "room-temperature (RT) ferromagnetic DMS" have been reported. However, it should be noted that their sp-d exchange interactions have not been confirmed yet. The lack of a clear evidence of the sp-d exchange interaction causes the controversy on the origin of the observed ferromagnetism. For the detection of the sp-d exchange interaction, magneto-optical spectroscopy such as a magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) measurement is the most powerful tool. By using the MCD spectroscopy, we have shown the sp-d exchange interactions in Zn$_{l-x}$Cr$_{x}$Te. Recently, we have obtained the RT ferromagnetism in a Zn$_{l-x}$Cr$_{x}$Te (x = 0.20) film.0) film.
In this work, we focused on the setup of the tools for the analysis of the final rotational state distribution of photofragments in vibrational predissociations of triatomic van der Waals molecules A-B2. We found that reflection principle used for the direct photodissociation processes can also be applied to find out the final rotational state distributions for indirect photodissociation processes. The quantity which represents the strength of rovibrational coupling between the quasi-bound state and the final state is reflected into the mirror of the classical angular momentum function, instead of the initial state before light absorption used in the reflection principle of direct processes. The sign change in the first derivative of the interaction potential with respect to the bond distance of B2 is found to be the source of the binodal structures in the final rotational distributions of photofragments in the model system studied in this work. In MQDT analysis, short range eigenchannel basis functions were found to be localized in angle, in the previous work [Lee, C.W. Bull. Korean Chem. Soc. 1995, 16, 957.] and may be called angle functions. Angle functions enjoy simple geometrical structures which have simple functional relations with the final state distributions of photofragments. Two processes take place along the angle functions which resemble the quasi-bound state and dominate over other processes. Two such angle functions are found to be not only localized angularly but also localized either one of ends of B2 in motions along the bond of B2. These dominating photodissociation processes, however, cancel each other. This cancellation causes photodissociation to depend sensitively on the interaction potential at other angles than the dominant one. Part of potential surface where much larger torque exists can now play an important role in photodissociation. MQDT also enables us to see which processes play important roles after cancellation. This is done by examining the amounts of time delayed by asymptotic eigenchannels.

Based on Nonlinear Finite Element Analysis (NFEA), this paper focuses on the bi-axial ultimate strength of typical bottom structures under corrosion. On one hand, uniform and not simultaneous corrosion across different structures is introduced, and surrogate models by Gaussian Process (GP) are built for both longitudinal and transverse cases individually, and corresponding probabilistic characteristics are investigated; meanwhile, corrosion effects on interaction between bi-axial stresses at ultimate state are studied. On the other hand, non-uniform localized pitting corrosion of normally distributed circular shapes is introduced, and different pitting corrosion densities are considered; structural bi-axial ultimate strengths under pitting corrosion are studied, and the results are compared with that from equivalent uniform corrosion; the probabilistic characteristics of structural ultimate strength in life cycle are studied; finally, the ultimate strength under randomly distributed pitting corrosion is compared with results from normally distributed pitting and uniform corrosion under various boundary conditions.
The presence of cavities in the bone cement has a great importance for the transport of antibiotics, but its existence in this material can lead to its weakening by notch effect. The aim of this study allows providing a physical interpretation to the cavities interconnection by cracks observed experimentally. The most important stress of Von Mises is localized at the cement/bone interface near the free edge which is the seat of stress concentration. The presence and interaction of cavities in this site concentrate, by notch effect, stresses which tend to the tensile fracture stress of Bone cement.

A monoclonal antibody against Toxoplasma gondii of Tg556 clone (Tg556) blotted a 29 kDa protein, which was localized in the dense granules of tachyzoites and secreted into the parasitophorous vacuolar membrane (PVM) after infection to host cells. A cDNA fragment encoding the protein was obtained by screening a T. gondii cDNA expression library with Tg556, and the full-length was completed by 5'-RACE of 2,086 bp containing an open reading frame (ORF) of 669 bp. The ORF encoded a polypeptide of 222 amino acids homologous to the revised GRA3 but not to the first reported one. The polypeptide has 3 hydrophobic moieties of an N-terminal stop transfer sequence and 2 transmembrane domains (TMD) in posterior half of the sequence, a cytoplasmic localization motif after the second TMD and an endoplasmic reticulum (ER) retrival motif in the C-terminal end, which suggests GRA3 as a type III transmembrane protein. With the ORF of GRA3, yeast two-hybrid assay was performed in HeLa cDNA expression library, which resulted in the interaction of GRA3 with calcium modulating ligand (CAMLG), a type II transmembrane protein of ER. The specific binding of GRA3 and CAMLG was confirmed by glutathione S-transferase (GST) pull-down and immunoprecipitation assays. The localities of fluorescence transfectionally expressed from GRA3 and CAMLG plasmids were overlapped completely in HeLa cell cytoplasm. In immunofluorescence assay, GRA3 and CAMLG were shown to be co-localized in the PVM of host cells. Structural binding of PVM-inserted GRA3 to CAMLG of ER suggested the receptor-ligand of ER recruitment to PVM during the parasitism of T. gondii.
By adopting a 2D time-dependent wave code, we investigate how mode-converted waves at the Ion-Ion Hybrid (IIH) resonance and compressional waves propagate in 2D density structures with a wide range of field-aligned wavenumbers to background magnetic fields. The simulation results show that the mode-converted waves have continuous bands across the field line consistent with previous numerical studies. These waves also have harmonic structures in frequency domain and are localized in the field-aligned heavy ion density well. Our results thus emphasize the importance of a field-aligned heavy ion density structure for ultra-low frequency wave propagation, and suggest that IIH waves can be localized in different locations along the field line.
The state-based peridynamics is considered a nonlocal method in which the equations of motion utilize integral form as opposed to the partial differential equations in the classical continuum mechanics. As a result, the enforcement of boundary conditions in solid mechanics analyses cannot follow the standard way as in a classical continuum theory. In this paper, a new approach for the boundary condition enforcement in the state-based peridynamic formulation is presented. The new method is first formulated based on a convex kernel approximation to restore the Kronecker-delta property on the boundary in 1-D case. The convex kernel approximation is further localized near the boundary to meet the condition that recovers the correct boundary particle forces. The new formulation is extended to the two-dimensional problem and is shown to reserve the conservation of linear momentum and angular momentum. Three numerical benchmarks are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness and accuracy of the proposed approach.
LSPR(Localized Surface Plasmon Resonance) sensor measures the refractive index change on the sensor surface. The detection of biological reaction with the unknown refractive index needs to be converted into the signal sensitivity for the refractive index change for comparison with other measurements. To find the signal sensitivity, the three steps of signal processing are proposed, which are signal modeling, signal calibration and signal normalization of LSPR sensor. The detected signal of biotin-streptavidin interaction has been converted into unit of [RU](Resonance Unit) using the proposed method. The converted signal directly can be compared with the other sensors including commercialized one.
