  • This study intended to the optimal conservation method and to make an application scheme for the fossil locality of the Quaternary Hamori Formation at the northeastern coast of Mt. Songak. Many kinds of innumerable fossils are found from the Hamori Formation in the study area: Footprints of hominid, trace fossils of invertebrates, bird, artiodactyla, proboscidea, carnivores, unclassified footprints, and body fossils (arthropoda, gastropoda, mollusca, and plants). The formation has been outcropped and eroded out with innumerous fossils by the strong wave action of storm and typhoon. Korean government recognized the dangerous situation of the important fossils and decided to conserve the formation for the national heritage. Method D1 (conservation hall or museum on the fossil locality) may be the best way to protect the fossil locality from all the natural activities and to do the research, exhibition, education, and sightseeing together. The application of the geologic materials from the fossil locality should preferentially focus on the collection and research which should be accompanied by exhibition, education, and sightseeing. The application scheme may be stepped into three stages during 10 years: (1) systematic conservation and publicity during 2005-2007, (2) establishment of wellorganized museum during 2008-2010, and (3) international museum with the optimized roles 2011-2014.

  • Fossil photographs in science and earth science textbooks on the 7th curriculum including those of elementary, middle and high school, are analyzed to estimate the adequacy and scientific significance focusing on the locality and scale. The results show that most of the textbooks have included various types of fossil photographs: 32 in elementary textbooks, 50 in middle school and 109 in high school. However, the presentation of scientific information on each photographs is insufficient. Only $68\%$ of the elementary textbooks designates locality and only $6\%$ includes scales. Among middle and high school textbooks, 40 and $16\%$ of photographs describe locality, and 14 and $18\%$ of photographs exhibit scale, respectively. More scientific and appropriate presentation of fossil photographs, such as locality and scale, is needed to enhance educational effect.

  • The purpose of this study is to discuss issues on how locality can be revealed through landscape planning and design especially in the local environment. Over the past decade, there has been substantial increase in architects and landscape architects working internationally. There are many that believe this may lead to a unifying global brand of design that overlooks the identity and specificity of place. This lead us to think opportunities and challenges for designers working internationally to understand and create a unique sense of place. Relations between contemporary design trend and local identity will be studied through case studies. Design strategies and languages on revealing locality will be also discussed with the Suncheon Education Culture Center project.

  • This study identifies the present status of multicultural broadcasting programs as multicultural phenomenon is spreading throughout Korean society and it discusses how a local broadcasting has to reflect locality and multicultural characteristic. A notion on the local of multimedia and multichannel time is expanding as a concept of emotional and psychological territory over geographical space. Therefore the locality should reflect attachment and interests of its members as well as disseminating multicultural reality. A locality for broadcasting should accept differences, reflect a cultural diversity, and satisfy its dynamics. The purpose of this study is to inquire whether a local broadcasting is performing its function as a local press and a place forpublic opinions by examining how they reflect reality of local, where an inflow of Immigrants and their cultures are altering the place as a multicultural society, and what Programs they propose. This study also presents media education for immigrants, revitalization of community, multicultural education about local citizens, and practical use of multicultural contents and small output radio as a source of supply for local broadcasting program in order to harmonize production of multlcultural media contents In local society.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of science classes using the geological materials of a locality on academic achievement and scientific attitude of elementary school students. For this study, the class unit is 'stratum and fossils', 2nd semester of 3rd grade, and the geological materials of a locality is applied for class. The geological materials used in teaching and learning of 'stratum and fossil' unit are photographs & video data relating to geological phenomenon, and rock & fossils samples collected in Jeollanam-do province. This study has been aimed at 2 classes 47 students of 3rd grade in G elementary school of G metropolitan. One class 23 students are the research group to apply science class using the geological materials in a locality, on the order hand another class 24 students are the comparison group to apply general science classes. The results of this study are follows. First, a positive relationship was identified between academic achievement and science class applying the geological materials in a locality in the research group. This shows that academic achievement was improved by science class applying the geological materials in a locality. Second, a positive relationship was identified between scientific attitude and science class applying the geological materials in a locality in the research group. This shows that scientific attitude was improved by science class applying the geological materials in a locality. Third, by the results of interview with students who was participated in science class applying the geological materials in a locality, it shows that they have interest and curiosity about local geology. Above results means that science class applying the geological materials in a locality help elementary schools students improve the educational effect about 'stratum and fossils' unit. Thus, it is needed to use the geological materials of a locality in science class relating to the geology units of elementary school science in order to improve academic achievement and scientific attitude of elementary school students.

  • ICTs(Information and Communication Technologies) have changed the ways of social activities and communications, and in the process, online and offline spaces have been thought of as binary spaces in which online spaces substitute and erode offline spaces. The aim of this study is to explore how urban space where local social activities and communications are performed is constructed in terms of timespace through the intersection of online and offline communications and how the urban space is 'remediated' through online spaces. For this, the study looks at the case of a workshop on 'locality education' held at the Yeungnam University Museum in January 2013. Criticizing the dichotomist viewpoint that increasing in communications through online spaces results in the expansion of 'absent presence' or 'placelessness' in offline spaces, the study argues that online spaces remediating offline spaces are spaces not transcending the timespace constraints of the offline spaces but rather reflecting the spatial, temporal, material, social, cultural environments of urban space and place.

  • To examine the locality of Busan is a precondition of examining documenting localities of Busan. What is the locality of Busan and how can I explore the locality of Busan? These are the research questions of this thesis. Memory is fundamental in making an identity. So local memory is fundamental in making locality. Understanding relations between memory and identity, the author explored the locality of Busan by analyzing memories of Busan. To analyze memories of Busan is to examine historical figures of Busan and Cultural Properties of Busan which are on the website of Busan metropolitan city. The results are as follows : According to the analysis of historical figures of Busan, there are no confucius scholars who came from Busan. However in the age of civilization, Busan has produced some talented people by way of receiving a modern education. According to the analysis of Cultural Properties of Busan, Jung-gu(中區) and Seo-gu(西區) and Yeongdo-gu(影島區) are the spaces of migration. Dongnae-gu(東萊區), Suyeong-gu(水營區) and Saha-gu(沙下區) and Gijang-gun(機張郡) are the spaces of settlement. Dong-gu(東區) has changed from a space of settlement into a space of migration with the opening of the Busan Port as a momentum in 1876.

  • The marine interstitial annelid Pharyngocirrus uchidai(Sasaki, 1981) has been only known from Japan. In this study, we report the occurrence of P. uchidai for the first time in four localities along the eastern coast of Korea: Bukmyeon, Gamchu, Gase, and Oeongchi. Species identification was confirmed by comparison of DNA barcoding sequences with morphological examination from the type locality, Oshoro, Japan. We generated a total of 25 sequences of a partial segment (580 bp) of the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene (COI), representing five specimens from each locality. Maximum intra-specific variation was 1.2% in terms of Kimura two-parameter (K2P) distance, observed between two individuals each from Gamchu (i.e., between two specimens from the single locality), Gamchu and Oeongchi, Gamchu and Oshoro, and Oeongchi and Oshoro. On the other hand, an identical haplotype was found in all the five localities, substantiating our species identification for the Korean populations. Inter-specific K2P distance between P. uchidai and an unidentified Saccocirrus sp. from Canada (based on public database entries) was 22.4-23.4%.

  • In this paper, a P2P streaming system for community TV service which requires realtime interactions was designed and implemented. The proposed system constructs a short delay tree-based P2P network in order to effectively support various community TV services within end-to-end delay bounds. Because a community service based on conversation requires a short delay. The P2P network of this paper was constructed by using an algorithm which utilizes locality and delay information. The implemented P2P streaming system is composed of a Web server and a application, each of which was implemented using Asp.Net and C#.Net respectively.
