The local topography has a significant effect on the characteristics of seismic ground motion. This paper investigates the influence of topographic effects on the seismic response of a train-bridge system. A 3-D finite element model with local absorbing boundary conditions is established for the local site. The time histories of seismic ground motion are converted into equivalent loads on the artificial boundary, to obtain the seismic input at the bridge supports. The analysis of the train-bridge system subjected to multi-support seismic excitations is performed, by applying the displacement time histories of the seismic ground motion to the bridge supports. In a case study considering a bridge with a span of 466 m crossing a valley, the seismic response of the train-bridge system is analyzed. The results show that the local topography and the incident angle of seismic waves have a significant effect on the seismic response of the train-bridge system. Leaving these effects out of consideration may lead to unsafe analysis results.

The purpose of this paper is empirically to identify the factors influencing local food purchase intention. And this study compares to the difference between local food consumer and hypermarket consumer's attitudes toward local food, food lifestyle, and subjective norm. Data were collected from 319 local food consumer and 179 hypermarket consumer to measure the following; attitude toward local food; subjective norm; perceived behavioral control; food lifestyles; demographic information. Results showed that local food consumers are significant differences on attitudes towards health, environment, and local economy. Results also found that subjective norm and perceived behavioral control are significant differences between local food consumer and hypermarket consumers. It means that consumers who express a strong intention to purchase local food seems to link to the food lifestyles. The study suggests that producers and retailers need to develp campaigns explaining how consuming local food supports local businesses and farmers, which will reinforce personal values associated with local consumption.

In the construction of mountain tunnels, reaction forces of the legs of steel arch supports against the ground are often expected to support the ground being excavated. In these cases, a stress concentration occurs in the ground directly under the support legs. If the bearing capacity of the ground is insufficient or displacement is not effectively constrained, the local failure of the ground under the support legs or settlement of the tunnel supports due to large deformation could result. It is therefore necessary to reinforce the support legs to reduce settlement. As a means of reducing settlement, wing-ribbed steel arch supports are well used. In this study, with the aim of finding a way to quickly reduce the settlement of steel arch support legs, effectiveness of a new type of wing ribs to reinforce steel arch supports was investigated through laboratory testing.

The use of local two-sided and three-sided jacketing for the repair and strengthening of reinforced concrete beam-column joints damaged by severe earthquakes is investigated experimentally and analytically. Two exterior beam-column joint specimens ($O_1$ and $O_2$) were submitted to a series of cyclic lateral loads to simulate severe earthquake damage. The specimens were typical of existing older structures built in the 1960s and 1970s. The specimens were then repaired and strengthened by local two-sided or three-sided jacketing according to UNIDO Manual guidelines. The strengthened specimens ($RO_1$ and $RO_2$) were then subjected to the same displacement history as that imposed on the original specimens. The repaired and strengthened specimens exhibited significantly higher strength, stiffness and better energy dissipation capacity than the original specimens.

Purpose - The purpose of the study is to promote the adoption of traditional liquor product contents in order to revitalize the market and to increase consumer awareness of traditional liquor. Research design, data, methodology - In this study, the 4P relationship model was evaluated that included the self-supporting business of traditional liquor, continuous business, diversification of the types of the liquor, and discovery of preliminary social enterprises for the distribution of the liquor. Results - The study suggested a 4P relationship model that consisted of traditional liquor as the product, traditional market as the place, promotion within traditional market, and payment of labor costs. In other words, selection of the traditional liquor product, place, rental supports, distribution and delivery strategies, operations, public relations and training, foundation of social enterprises, and discussion between departments. Conclusions - The central government, local governments, and merchants (the market association) should actively cooperate with each other to revitalize the market for traditional liquor. Social enterprises that rely on a non-profit business model are likely to revitalize the traditional liquor market.

The purpose of this research is to develop and evaluate a traffic engineering architecture that uses local state information. This architecture is applied to an Internet protocol radio access network (RAN) that uses multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) and differentiated services to support mobile hosts. We assume mobility support is provided by a protocol such as the hierarchical mobile Internet protocol. The traffic engineering architecture is router based-meaning that routers on the edges of the network make the decisions onto which paths to place admitted traffic. We propose an algorithm that supports the architecture and uses local network state in order to function. The goal of the architecture is to provide an inexpensive and fast method to reduce network congestion while increasing the quality of service (QoS) level when compared to traditional routing and traffic engineering techniques. We use a number of different mobility scenarios and a mix of different types of traffic to evaluate our architecture and algorithm. We use the network simulator ns-2 as the core of our simulation environment. Around this core we built a system of pre-simulation, during simulation, and post-processing software that enabled us to simulate our traffic engineering architecture with only very minimal changes to the core ns-2 software. Our simulation environment supports a number of different mobility scenarios and a mix of different types of traffic to evaluate our architecture and algorithm.

The purpose of this paper is to find out the set of the factors influencing on the successful voluntary consolidation among local governments. This paper considers the voluntary consolidation as a kind of coordination mechanism and institutional collective action process between local governments, and identifies the configurations of the causal factors influencing the voluntary consolidations by applying the fuzzy-set analysis. It is found that the sets of the causal factors which include political and economic homogeneity factors in the region, and interlocal political, economic, and social homogeneity factors, and prior consolidation experience between regions have positive effects on the consolidations. Also, it turns out that interlocal homogeneity and conformity between regions should be considered significantly for institutionalization which supports the consolidation between local entities.

A method of estimating probability density using regression tools is presented here. It is based on equal-length binning and locally weighted approximate likelihood for bin counts. The method is particularly useful for densities with bounded supports, where it automatically corrects edge effects without using boundary kernels.

The paper examines the influence of ownership type on environmental performance of Chinese listed enterprises. China's environmental problems are attributed to the collusion between enterprises and economy-oriented local governments, which has allowed many companies to skirt environmental regulations. Especially, local state-owned enterprises (SOEs) tend to have worse environmental performance than private firms, under the wing of local governments, with whom they have a closer political connection. According to the report of the Environmental Protection Agency, currently the unacceptably poor environmental performance of local SOEs has severely hampered the realization of green economy in China. After examining the dataset of 15,996 firm-year observations from 2,688 listed firms, this paper found that, in the presence of central government supervision and personnel intervention, listed local SOEs will be forced to improve their environmental performance in accordance with standards set by the central government, which leads to better environmental performance than that of listed private firms (private firms). The result of two-stage regression also supports the conclusion. This shows increased supervision and personnel intervention from the central government can significantly improve the environmental performance of local SOEs. The research in this paper expects to make a contribution to attaining the goal of green economy in China.
