  • The NISS (Near-infrared Imaging Spectrometer for Star formation history) onboard NEXTSat-1 was successfully launched on last December and is now under the operation phase. The capability of both imaging and spectroscopy is a unique function of the NISS. It has realized the imaging spectroscopy (R~20) with a wide field of view of $2{\times}2deg$. in a wide near-infrared range from 0.95 to $2.5{\mu}m$. The major scientific mission is to study the cosmic star formation history in the local and distant universe. It also demonstrated the space technologies related to the infrared spectro-photometry in space. The NISS is performing the imaging spectroscopic survey for local star-forming galaxies, clusters of galaxies, star-forming regions, ecliptic deep fields and so on. As an extension of the NISS, the SPEHREx (Spectro-Photometer for the History of the Universe Epoch of Reionization, and Ices Explorer) was selected as the NASA MIDEX (Medium-class Explorer) mission (PI Institute: Caltech). As an international partner, KASI will participate in the development and the science for SPHEREx. It will perform the first all-sky infrared spectro-photometric survey to probe the origin of our Universe, to explore the origin and evolution of galaxies, and to explore whether planets around other stars could harbor life. Compared to the NISS, the SPHEREx is designed to have a much wider FoV of $3.5{\times}11.3deg$. as well as wider spectral range from 0.75 to $5.0{\mu}m$. Here, we introduce the status of the two space missions.

  • Understanding how ionizing radiation propagates from molecular clouds to the intergalactic space is the key to the study of reionization and the emergence of $Ly{\alpha}$ emission from galaxies. In this contribution, I will present our new efforts to better understand the escape of UV photons from turbulent clouds with different masses, star formation efficiencies, and spectral energy distributions using radiation-hydrodynamic simulations. I will also show predicted Lya profiles from turbulent clouds and discuss a few interesting differences identified when compared with the properties of the local green pea galaxies.

  • In LCDM universe, large, massive structures, like galaxy clusters, grow through the successive accretion/mergers of smaller structures. Therefore, at high redshift, unlike local, it is expected that there would be plenty of galaxy clusters which are still growing. Here, we report the discovery of a high-redshift (z~1) galaxy cluster which is in its active formation stage. This cluster is well connected to the large scale overdense environment and contains high fraction of star-forming galaxies, providing a good example supporting our previously suggested 'Web-feeding model'.

  • Recent studies suggest that the difference between global and local properties of galaxies (the local-global environmental (LoG) bias) might be important in the Type Ia supernova (SN Ia) host galaxy studies. Obtaining local spectroscopic properties of hosts at high redshift, however, is challenging. Here we will introduce a more efficient way to conduct this study by only using photometric data. We find that when we restrict a sample to the hosts whose stellar mass is less than $10^{10}$ $M_{\odot}$, a sample without LoG bias is efficiently selected. From the sample without LoG bias, we confirm that SNe Ia in locally star-forming environment are $0.103{\pm}0.010mag$ and $0.085{\pm}0.012mag$ fainter than those in locally passive region, for MLCS2k2 and SALT2, respectively. Because of ~6 times larger sample that covers much wider redshift range, our results are far more significant statistically, $10.3{\sigma}$ for MLCS2k2 and $7.1{\sigma}$ for SALT2, than previous results.

  • Recent studies of galaxy clusters have shown that the galaxy clusters in dense environment tend to have lower star formation rate in local universe with z < 1. However, this correlation is not significant in galaxy clusters with z > 1. The study of galaxy clusters around z=1 can yield insight into cosmological galaxy evolution. Nevertheless, the identification of galaxy clusters beyond the scope of immediate local universe requires wide field data in optical and near-infrared bands. By incorporating data from Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope Legacy Survey(CFHTLS) and Infrared Medium-Deep Survey(IMS), the photometric redshifts of galaxies in CFHTLS W2 field were calculated. Using spatial distribution and photometric redshifts, the galaxies in the field were divided into redshift bins. The image of each redshift bin was analyzed by measuring the number density within proper distance of 1Mpc. By comparing high density regions in consecutive redshift bins, we identified the cluster candidates and mapped the large-scale structure within the CFHTLS W2 field.

  • Three protocols based on the slotted Aloha technique are proposed for very high-speed optical fiber local area networks using wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) passive star topology and the throughputs and delays are derived. For getting a high probability in successful transmission of control packets determining the transmission of a data packet, we adopt control mini slot groups in these protocols. The retransmission probability is also considered in analysis. Both throughput and delay of three protocols are compared and analyzed by varying the number of control solt groups, the retransmission probability the length of a data packet and the number of channels. The numerical analysis shows that the proposed protocols adopted the control slot groups give the increase of throughput and the decrease of delay.

  • As a result of rapid advances in communication technology, fiber optics have begun to be adopted in most telecommunication systems 3s an economic choice Due to the trend of evolution toward broadband communication network with fiber optics and electronic devices. the network design problem for broadband communication has been received a great deal of research attention recently. In this paper, we address a topological design problem for broadband local access network with uncertain demands, which has received surprisingly little attention so far. in our problem, we select a set of hubs and links for constructing network expected penalty cost for the amount of undersupplied In addition to the usual cost terms of the fixed demand problem Our problem can be approximated as a mixed 0-1 integer programming problem by using Szwarc’s linear approximation technique. Then the problem is transformed successfully into a version of classical network design model. Some computational experiments for the model and concluding remarks are described.

  • In this paper, we propose and analyze a new multiple access protocol for a local area optical Internet based on a wavelength division multiplexing technique which uses a passive star coupler. The proposed contention-based reservation protocol can support variable-length as well as fixed-length messages for transporting Internet packets with one reservation of a minislot at the beginning of a packet transmission. The minislot is used to reserve the data channel on the basis of the slotted ALOHA protocol and the control node ensures subsequent message transmission on the same wavelength. Thus, all messages need not be broken down to many fixed-length packets, and consecutive messages are transmitted through the same wavelength. Moreover, the proposed protocol reduces the collision probability of minislots and improves wavelength utilization. We determine the maximum throughput and verify the results with simulation.

  • We present observational estimation of the infrared (IR) luminosity function (LF) of local (z < 0.3) star-forming (SF) galaxies derived from the AKARI NEP-Wide samples. We made an analysis of the NEP-Wide data with optical spectroscopic information allowing an accurate determination of luminosity function. Spectroscopic redshifts for about 1650 objects were obtained with MMT/Hectospec and WIYN/Hydra, and the median redshifts is about 0.22. To measure the contribution of SF galaxies to the luminosity function, we excluded AGN sample by comparing their SEDs with various model template. Spectroscopic redshifts and the AKARI's continuous filter coverage in the mid-IR (MIR) wavelength (2 ~ 25 micron) enable us to avoid large uncertainties from the mid-IR SED of galaxies and corresponding k-corrections. The 8-micron luminosity function shows a good agreement with the previous works in the bright-end, whereas it seems not easy to constrain the faint-end slope. The comparison with the results of the NEP-Deep data (Goto et al. 2010) suggests the luminosity evolution to the higher redshifts, which is consistent with the down-sizing evolutionary pattern of galaxies.
