  • This study is to examine how activities using local multi -cultural resources and world geography lessons using the CCAP(Cross-Cultural Awareness Programme) affect students' multi-cultural understanding. Activities using local multi-cultural resources were carried by visiting in an alien worker community, volunteering in multicultural center, attending on UNESCO ASP(Associated School Program), and making radio broadcasting program associated with 'SCN FM' which is a local broadcasting station on the weekend. And world geography lessons using the CCAP were conducted with 5 classes including orientation by inviting foreign instructors from that place after reconstructing the Southeast and South Asia unit of the countries such as Pakistan, the Philippines, Myanmar and Cambodia. According to twice questionnaire survey conducted before and after activities using local multi-cultural resources and world geography lessons using the CCAP, it appeared that students had familiarity more than before through direct meeting with foreigners inside and outside classroom, and understood and respected other cultures by acquiring contextual regional knowledge. In the end, multi-cultural activities and world geography lessons using the CCAP contributed to students' global citizenship, which overcame prejudice toward third world cultures. Like that, if world geography classes provide continually students with opportunities to experience directly diverse cultures inside and outside classroom, world geography overcome negative image that it transmit decontextual regional knowledge and is regarded as the subject that is very fit for nurturing global citizenship based on contextual knowledge, consideration and tolerance needed in global and multi-cultural society.

  • The evaluation of the local festival events that supports promising local festivals needs to well reflect the degree of success of the local festival events that have been implemented. Many local governments of the country have competitively implemented local festival events, some of which turned to be a success, while others not. This alerts the need for investigating whether the evaluation of the local festival events is appropriate, in order to better execute the provincial finance. The paper investigates this using the data of cultural tourism festivals from 2012 to 2014. More specifically, the paper first examines the relationships between choice dimensions (festival success index) and visitors' satisfaction, and then identify whether visitors' satisfaction and festival evaluation results are significantly correlated. This after all indicates whether the festival success index are well reflected in the festival evaluation results. The findings tell that choice dimensions well explain the visitors' satisfaction, whereas the visitors' satisfaction does not have a significant correlation with the festival evaluation results. This potentially implies that the current scheme of the local festival evaluation needs more rigorous validity test and additional research and practice for the improved evaluation protocol.

  • This study considered the history and range of concern to the citizenship education in the British geography education with respect to the appearance of the citizenship subject in National Curriculum. Although British geography education mainly put on emphasis citizenship education focused on national identity through imperialism ideology up to World War II, it has aimed at the local and global citizenship education which put focus on the reflection of students to individual value and value position, and social justice after the 1980s. Not only an inner change of such geography education but the external factor of appearance of citizenship subject has stimulated more concern about citizenship education. After that, British geography education community constructs the logic of theoretical justification and urges teachers' practical research and continuous concern as plan for geography subject to lead citizenship education all the time. On the other hand, recently British political and social cultural geographers observe spaces of the citizenship which makes difference and identity and the radical and critical citizenship which put focus on the local and the global scale from the national. Therefore, citizenship education through geography subject must put more emphasis on not national identity but the local and global identity for social justice and a better world.

  • This study examines the epistemological approach of the economic geography and the approach in the ontology of geography which has been studied based on the region, and thereby aims at the systematization of economic geography. Since 1956, Korean economic geography study has been conducted under the development of studies in developed countries without discussing the uniqueness of the study or the systematization of the research approaches. As a result, the systematization is built after the economic geography is divided into neoclassical economy, geographical political economy, regional structure of the national economy, and local autonomous entity economy on a axis of epistemology and ontology for the systematization of approaches. We should pursue the intellectual change adding the major economic phenomena theories such as the world-system perspective, the regulation theory, network theory, and the institutionalism etc. into the systematization of the economic geography.

Important results of this study can be outlined as follows; First, the regional learning programs in the lifelong learning society are desirable to be configurated with the situated learning method focused on the characteristics of learners, instructors and the local contexts. In addition, the active training of regional human resources such as organizing learning circles and SERVICE-LEARNING through the participation of them is effective as a teaching method. Secondly, the consequence through the field excursion calling itself 'the geography exploration group', organized by the researcher and involved with participants together provoked the paradigm shift on their region and the regional identity. Thirdly, the active participation of local experts including geography teachers should be needed for the popularization of geography education. • In this article, I intended to develop the contents of regional learning in social studies and in geography education. In achieving the goal of regional teaming, we have to investigate three facets, i .e. theoretical, organizational, and practical facet. In particular, practical facet is very important one in that it is directly related to content development. As the criteria of content constitution, I proposed two elements, 'historical-geographical landscape'and 'region-related discourse' which are pertinent to the case region, Yonsan in Chungcheongnam-do, Korea. And then, on the basis of disciplinary results in geography, I developed the scope and sequence of contents by utilizing three lagers of space which are 'habitat space', 'social space', and 'power space', three geographical concepts of 'site→symbolic landscape→territoriality', and three spatial scales of 'local→inter-local →regional one'correspondingly.
