Purpose: To present a flexible and accurate autonomous solution for creating any desired row spacing value between the hydroponic gullies in multilayer growing units, and evaluate the capabilities and performance of the relevant automated system through the use of virtual prototyping technique. Methods: To build the virtual prototype of the system, CAD models of its different parts, including an autonomous vehicle and the mechanical mechanisms embedded in the multilayer growing unit, were developed and imported into the RecurDyn simulation software. In order to implement the automated row spacing operation, three spacing modes with different loading cycles and working steps were defined, and the operation of the system was simulated to obtain the target row spacing values specified for each of these modes. Results: Motion profiles related to the horizontal displacement of: 1) the lower and upper sliding bars installed in the cultivation layers, and 2) the hydroponic gullies, during the simulation of the system operation, were generated and analyzed. No deviation from the specified target spacing values was observed at the end of simulations for all spacing modes. Conclusions: The results of the motion analysis obtained by simulating the system operation confirm the effectiveness of the control scheme proposed for automated row spacing of gullies. It was also found that proper sequencing of the loading cycles and the precision of the working strokes of the upper bars are the critical factors for establishing a certain row spacing value. Based on the simulation results, precise control of the back and forth motions of the upper bars is highly necessary for sound operation of the real system.

In this paper, the analysis of impact damage behavior of a reinforced concrete structure that undergoes both a shock impulsive loading and an impact loading due to the air blast induced from an explosion is performed. Firstly, a pair of multiple loadings are selected from the scenario that an imaginary explosion accident is assumed. The RC structures strengthened with glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) composites are considered as a scheme for retrofitting RC wall structures subjected to multiple explosive loadings and then the evaluation of the resistant performance against them is presented in comparison with the result of the evaluation of a RC structure without a retrofit. Also, in order to derive the result of the analysis similar to that of real explosion experiments, which require the vast investment and expense for facilities, the constitutive equation and the equation of state (EOS) which can describe the real impact and shock phenomena accurately are included with them. In addition, the numerical simulations of two concrete structures are achieved using AUTODYN-3D, an explicit analysis program, in order to prove the retrofit performance of a GFRP-strengthened RC wall structure.

In this study, an improved finite element formulation with a scheme of solution for the large deflection analysis of inextensible prismatic and nonprismatic slender beams is developed. For this purpose, a three-noded Lagrangian beam-element with two dependent degrees of freedom per node (i.e., the vertical displacement, y, and the actual slope, $dy/ds=sin{\theta}$, where s is the curved coordinate along the deflected beam) is used to derive the element stiffness matrix. The element stiffness matrix in the global xy-coordinate system is achieved by means of coordinate transformation of a highly nonlinear ($6{\times}6$) element matrix in the local sy-coordinate. Because of bending with large curvature, highly nonlinear expressions are developed within the global stiffness matrix. To achieve the solution after specifying the proper loading and boundary conditions, an iterative quasi-linearization technique with successive corrections are employed considering these nonlinear expressions to remain constant during all iterations of the solution. In order to verify the validity and the accuracy of this study, the vertical and the horizontal displacements of prismatic and nonprismatic beams subjected to various cases of loading and boundary conditions are evaluated and compared with analytic solutions and numerical results by available references and the results by ADINA, and excellent agreements were achieved. The main advantage of the present technique is that the solution is directly obtained, i.e., non-incremental approach, using few iterations (3 to 6 iterations) and without the need to split the stiffness matrix into elastic and geometric matrices.

In the field of structural test, it is a very important factor to apply with an appropriate test jig to enhance test accuracy and efficiency. Especially in the large scale structure test, proper test apparatus scheme will reduce overall cost and time of the test project. Actuators, oil jack and UTM is generally used to evaluate the flexural capacity of the test beam. But in the case of multiple loading point or asymmetric loading of large scale test specimen, existing test method such as UTM have a difficulty in giving an accurate load. In this study new test method which is composed of existing test apparatus will be developed to improve test accuracy and economic efficiency.

RDF Semantics, one of W3C Recommendations, provides the RDFS entailment rules, which are used for the RDFS inference. Sesame, which is well known RDF repository, supports the RDBMS-based RDFS inference using the forward-chaining strategy. Since inferencing in the forward-chaining strategy is performed in the data loading time, the data loading time in Sesame is slow down be inferencing. In this paper, we propose the order scheme for applying the RDFS entailment rules to improve inference performance. The proposed application order makes the inference process terminate without repetition of the process for most cases and guarantees the completeness of inference result. Also the application order helps to reduce redundant results during the inference by predicting the results which were made already by previously applied rules. In this paper, we show that our approaches can improve the inference performance with comparisons to the original Sesame using several real-life RDF datasets.
In this paper, thermal-buckling behavior of the functionally graded (FG) nanocomposite plates reinforced with graphene oxide powder (GOP) is studied under three types of thermal loading once the plate is supposed to be rested on a two-parameter elastic foundation. The effective material properties of the nanocomposite plate are considered to be graded continuously through the thickness according to the Halpin-Tsai micromechanical scheme. Four types of GOPs' distribution namely uniform (U), X, V and O, are considered in a comparative way in order to find out the most efficient model of GOPs' distribution for the purpose of improving the stability limit of the structure. The governing equations of the plate have been derived based on a refined higher-order shear deformation plate theory incorporated with Hamilton's principle and solved analytically via Navier's solution for a simply supported GOP reinforced (GOPR) nanocomposite plate. Some new results are obtained by applying different thermal loadings to the plate according to the GOPs' negative coefficient of thermal expansion and considering both Winkler-type and Pasternak-type foundation models. Besides, detailed parametric studies have been carried out to reveal the influences of the different types of thermal loading, weight fraction of GOP, aspect and length-to-thickness ratios, distribution type, elastic foundation constants and so on, on the critical buckling load of nanocomposite plates. Moreover, the effects of thermal loadings with various types of temperature rise are investigated comparatively according to the graphical results. It is explicitly shown that the buckling behavior of an FG nanocomposite plate is significantly influenced by these effects.
The investigation of the utilization of enriched 208Pb as a coolant to enhance the performance of a long-life fast reactor with a Modified CANDLE (Constant Axial shape of Neutron flux, nuclide densities, and power shape During Life of Energy production) burnup scheme has performed. The analyzes were performed on a reactor with thermal power of 800 MegaWatt Thermal (MWTh) with a refueling process every 15 years. Uranium Nitride (enriched 15N), 208Pb, and High-Cr martensitic steel HT-9 were employed as fuel, coolant, and cladding materials, respectively. One of the Pb-nat isotopes, 208Pb, has the smallest neutron capture cross-section (0.23 mb) among other liquid metal coolants. Furthermore, the neutron-producing cross-section (n, 2n) of 208Pb is larger than sodium (Na). On the other hand, the inelastic scattering energy threshold of 208Pb is the highest among Na, natPb, and Bi. The small inelastic scattering cross-section of 208Pb can harden the neutron energy spectrum. Therefore, 208Pb is a better neutron multiplier than any other liquid metal coolant. The excess neutrons cause more production than consumption of 239Pu. Hence, it can reduce the initial fuel loading of the reactor. The selective photoreaction process was developing to obtain enriched 208Pb. The neutronic was calculated using SRAC and JENDL 4.0 as a nuclear data library. We obtained that the modified CANDLE reactor with enriched 208Pb as coolant and reflector has the highest k-eff among all reactors. Meanwhile, the natPb cooled reactor has the lowest k-eff. Thus, the utilization of the enriched 208Pb as the coolant can reduce reactor initial fuel loading. Moreover, the enriched 208Pb-cooled reactor has the smallest power peaking factor among all reactors. Therefore, the enriched 208Pb can enhance the performance of a long-life Modified CANDLE fast reactor.

Transuranic nuclides (such as 238Pu, 252Cf, 249Bk, etc.) have a wide range of application in industry, medicine, agriculture, and other fields. However, due to the complex conversion chain and remarkable fission losses in the process of transuranic nuclides production, the generation amounts are extremely low. High flux reactor with high neutron flux and flexible irradiation channels, is regarded as the promising candidate for producing transuranic nuclides. It is of great significance to increase the conversion ratio of transuranic nuclides, resulting in higher efficiency and better economy. In this paper, we perform an optimization design evaluation of producing transuranic nuclides in high flux reactor, which includes optimization design of irradiation target and influence study of reactor core loading. It is demonstrated that the production rate increases with appropriately determined target material and target structure. The target loading scheme in the irradiation channel also has a significant influence on the production of transuranic nuclides.

In this work, a 24-month two-batch fuel management strategy for the APR1400 using LEU + has been investigated, where enrichments of 5.9 and 5.2 w/o are utilized in lieu of the conventional 4-5 w/o UO2 fuel. In addition, an Accident Tolerant Fuel (ATF) clad based on the swaging technology is applied to APR1400 fuel assemblies. In this special ATF clad design, both outer and inner SS316 layers protect the conventional zircaloy clad. Erbia (Er2O3) is introduced as a burnable absorber with two-fold goals to lower the critical boron concentration in the long-cycle LEU + loaded core as well as to handle the LEU + fuel in the existing front-end fuel facilities without renewing the license. Two types of fuel assemblies with different loading of gadolinia (Gd2O3) are considered to control both the reactivity and the core radial power distribution. The erbia burnable absorber is uniformly admixed with UO2 in all fuel pins except for the gadolinia-bearing ones. In this study, two core designs were devised with different erbia loading, and core performance and safety parameters were evaluated for each case in comparison with a core design without any burnable absorbers. The core analysis was done using the two-step method. First, cross-sections are generated by the SERPENT 2 Monte Carlo code, and the 3-D neutronic analysis is performed with an in-house multi-physics nodal code KANT.
HEVC is the next compression standard and is expected to be used widely replacing the conventional H.264/AVC standard. The compression ratio of the HEVC is twice times than H.264/AVC, whereas its computational complexity is increased by up to 40%. Many research efforts have been made to reduce the computational complexity and to speed up encoding. For intra coding, the rough mode decision (RMD) is commonly applied. The rate-distortion optimization (RDO) process to decide the best mode is too complex so that RMD chooses the candidate modes with a simple process and sends the candidates to RDO process. However, for large-size blocks, the RMD also requires considerable computations. In this paper, a down-sampling scheme is proposed for the RMD process. The reference pixel loading, predicted pixel generation are performed using the down-sampled pixel data. When the proposed scheme is applied to the RMD, the computational complexity is reduced by 70% with a marginal bitrate increase of 0.04%. In terms of area of hardware-based RMD, the gate count and the buffer size is reduced 33% and 66%, respectively.
