In this paper, we suggest an optimization method which can save about 5[%] of the cost though the optimizing of configuration and capacity for the facility. To achieve this goal, we compared the design data of the power, motor and drive system with the actual operation data of the plate mill plant in K-Steelworks. Therefore we measured the actual loading data by facilities considering the operating conditions of the plate mill plant in K-Steelworks, after that analyzed these data. In addition, we review the optimal capacity for transformer, switchgear and drive, and also reconfigured the electrical room and power single line diagram through the validation of motor data by equipment and the confirmation of process data considering the load characteristics. Consequently, the optimization method of capacity for the facilities shall have effectiveness in building new plate mill plant to further reduce costs at future.
The search for new structural systems capable of associating performance and safety requires deeper knowledge regarding the mechanical behavior of structures subject to different loading conditions. The Strut-and-Tie Model is commonly used to structurally designing some reinforced concrete elements and for the regions where geometrical modifications and stress concentrations are observed, called "regions D". This method allows a better structural behavior representation for strength mechanisms in the concrete structures. Nonetheless, the topological model choice depends on the designer's experience regarding compatibility between internal flux of loads, geometry and boundary/initial conditions. Thus, there is some difficulty in its applications, once the model conception presents some uncertainty. In this context, the present work aims to apply the Strut-and-Tie Model to nonlinear structural elements together with a topological optimization method. The topological optimization method adopted considers the progressive stiffness reduction of finite elements with low stress values. The analyses performed could help the structural designer to better understand structural conceptions, guaranteeing the safety and the reliability in the solution of complex problems involving structural concrete.

All the loads in the real world act dynamically on structures. Since dynamic loads are extremely difficult to handle in analysis and design, static loads are utilized with dynamic factors. The dyna mic factors are generally determined based on experiences. Therefore, the static loads can cause problems in precise analysis and design. An analytical method based on modal analysis has been proposed for the transformation of dynamic loads into equivalent static load sets. Equivalent static load sets are calculated to generate an identical displacement field in a structure with that from dynamic loads at a certain time. The process is derived and evaluated mathematically. The method is verified through numerical tests. Various characteristics are identified to match the dynamic and the static behaviors. For example, the opposite direction of a dynamic load should be considered due to the vibration response. A dynamic bad is transformed to multiple equivalent static loads according to the number of the critical times. The places of the equivalent static load can be different from those of the dynamic load. An optimization method is defined to use the equivalent static loads. The developed optimization process has the same effect as the dynamic optimization which uses the dynamic loads directly. Standard examples are solved and the results are discussed

For a floating offshore plant such as FPSO(Floating, Production, Storage, and Off-loading unit), various equipment should be installed in the restricted space, as compared with an onshore plant. The requirement for an optimal layout method of the plant has been increased in these days. Thus, a layout method of the floating offshore plant was proposed in this study. For this, an optimization problem for layout design was mathematically formulated, and then an optimization algorithm based on the genetic algorithm was implemented with C++ language in order to solve it. Finally, the proposed method was applied to an example of FPSO topsides. As a result, it was shown that the proposed method can be applied to layout design of the floating offshore plant such as FPSO.
Reinforced concrete deep beams have useful applications in tall buildings and foundations. Over the past two decades, numerous design models for deep beams were suggested. However even the latest design manuals still offer little insight into the design of deep beams in particular when complexities exist in the beams like web openings. A method commonly suggested for the design of deep beams with openings is the strut-and-tie model which is primarily used to represent the actual load transfer mechanism in a structural concrete member under ultimate load. In the present study, the development of the strut-and-tie model is transformed to the topology optimization problem of continuum structures. During the optimization process, both the stress and displacement constraints are satisfied and the performance of progressive topologies is evaluated. The influences on the strut-and-tie model in relation to different size, location and number of openings, as well as different loading and support conditions in deep beams are examined in some detail. In all, eleven deep beams with web openings are optimized and compared in nine groups. The optimal strut-and-tie models achieved are also compared with published experimental crack patterns. Numerical results have shown to confirm the experimental observations and to efficiently represent the load transfer mechanism in concrete deep beams with openings under ultimate load.

In this study, a new type of energy absorbers with a functionally graded thickness is investigated, these type of absorbers absorb energy through expanding-folding processes. The expanding-folding absorbers are composed of two sections: a thin-walled aluminum matrix and a thin-walled steel mandrel. Previous studies have shown higher efficiency of the mentioned absorbers compared to the conventional ones. In this study, the effect of thickness which has been functionally-graded on the aluminum matrix (in which expansion occurs) was investigated. To this end, initial functions were considered for the matrix thickness, which was ascending/descending along the axis. The study was done experimentally and numerically. Comparing the experimental data with the numerical results showed high consistency between the numerical and experimental results. In the final section of this study, the best energy absorber functionally graded thickness was introduced by optimization using a third-order genetic algorithm. The optimization results showed that by choosing a minimum thickness of 1.6 mm and the exponential coefficient of 3.25, the most optimal condition can be obtained for descending thickness absorbers.

The chemical tank loading problem has been classified as nondeterministic polynomial time (NP)-complete problem because of the polynomial-time algorithm to find the solution has been unknown yet. Gu$\acute{e}$ret et al. tries to obtain the optimal solution using linear programming package with $O(m^4)$ time complexity for chemical tank loading problem a kind of bin packing problem. On the other hand, this paper suggests the rule of loading chemical into minimum margin tank algorithm with O(m) time complexity. The proposed algorithm stores the chemical in the tank that has partial residual of the same kind chemical firstly. Then, we load the remaining chemical to the minimum marginal tanks. As a result of experiments, this algorithm reduces the $O(m^4)$ of linear programming to O(m) time complexity for NP-complete chemical tank loading problem.

The structural layout of mechanical and civil structures is commonly obtained using conventional methods. For example, the shape of structures such as electric transmission towers and offshore substructures can be generated systematically. However, with rapid advancements in computer graphic technology, advanced structural analyses and optimum design technologies have been implemented. In this study, the structural shape of a jacket substructure for an offshore wind turbine is investigated using a topology optimization technique. The structure is subjected to multiple loads that are intended to simulate the loading conditions during actual operation. The optimization objective function is defined as one that ensures compliance of the structure under the given boundary conditions. Optimization is carried out with constraints on the natural frequency in addition to the volume constraint. The result of a first step model provides quick insights into the optimum layout for the second step structure. Subsequently, a 3D model in the form of the frustum of a quadrilateral pyramid is developed through topology optimization.
The suspended dome system is a new structural form that has become popular in the construction of long-span roof structures. Suspended dome is a kind of new pre-stressed space grid structure that has complex mechanical characteristics. In this paper, an optimum topology design algorithm is performed using the enhanced colliding bodies optimization (ECBO) method. The length of the strut, the cable initial strain, the cross-sectional area of the cables and the cross-sectional size of steel elements are adopted as design variables and the minimum volume of each dome is taken as the objective function. The topology optimization on lamella dome is performed by considering the type of the joint connections to determine the optimum number of rings, the optimum number of joints in each ring, the optimum height of crown and tubular sections of these domes. A simple procedure is provided to determine the configuration of the dome. This procedure includes calculating the joint coordinates and steel elements and cables constructions. The design constraints are implemented according to the provision of LRFD-AISC (Load and Resistance Factor Design-American Institute of Steel Constitution). This paper explores the efficiency of lamella dome with pin-joint and rigid-joint connections and compares them to investigate the performance of these domes under wind (according to the ASCE 7-05), dead and snow loading conditions. Then, a suspended dome with pin-joint single-layer reticulated shell and a suspended dome with rigid-joint single-layer reticulated shell are discussed. Optimization is performed via ECBO algorithm to demonstrate the effectiveness and robustness of the ECBO in creating optimal design for suspended domes.
Selective epitaxial growth (SEG) of silicon has attracted considerable attention for its good electrical properties and advantages in building microstructures in high-density devices. However, SEG problems, such as an unclear process window, selectivity loss, and nonuniformity have often made application difficult. In our study, we derived processing diagrams for SEG from thermodynamics on gas-phase reactions so that we could predict the SEG process zone for low pressure chemical vapor deposition. In addition, with the help of both the concept of the effective supersaturation ratio and three kinds of E-beam patterns, we evaluated and controlled selectivity loss and non-uniformity in SEG, which is affected by the loading effect. To optimize the SEG process, we propose two practical methods: One deals with cleaning the wafer, and the other involves inserting dummy active patterns into the wide insulator to prevent the silicon from nucleating.
