  • In the bi-directional pile load test (BD PLT) for pile load tests of Mega pile foundations, loading capacity standard is not specified exactly. Therefore there are so many confusions in performing the BD PLT and variations up to maximum 2 times in loading capacity are come out. In this study, standards of bi-directional pile load test (BD PLT) were considered. Based on cases of the bi-directional pile load test performed in domestic areas, maximum equivalent test load, test load increasing ratio, loading capacity increasing ratio and sufficiency ratio of design load were analyzed. It could be known that the loading capacity standard of bi-directional pile load test must be defined as 1-directional loading capacity and also must be established as more than 2 times of design load.

  • Ductile fracture is one of the most common failure modes of steel beam-to-column connections in moment resisting frames. Most proposed evaluation methods of the plastic deformation capacity of a beam until ductile fracture are based on steel beam tests, where the material's yield strength/ratio, the beam's moment gradient, and loading history are the most important parameters. It is impossible and unpractical to cover all these parameters in real tests. Therefore, a new attempt to evaluate a beam's plastic deformation capacity through analysis is introduced in this paper. Another important issue is about the loading histories. Recent years, the effect on the structural component under long-duration ground motion has drawn great attentions. Steel beams tends to experience a large number of loading cycles with small amplitudes during long-duration earthquakes. However, current research often focuses on the beam's behavior under standard incremental loading protocols recommended by respective countries. In this paper, the plastic deformation capacity of steel beams subjected to long duration ground motions was evaluated through analytical methodology.

  • This paper has proposed a reinforcing method for damaged RC columns with SRF sheets and Aramid rods. In order to verify the effectiveness and performance, two original columns and two reinforced columns with SRF sheets and Aramid rods were developed and tested under lateral cyclic displacement and a constant axial load. The test showed that the improvement of energy dissipation capacity was increased in terms of strength and ductility. In addition, an analytical modeling of the standard specimens was proposed using Response-2000 and ZeusNL program. The results of analytical and experimental studies for two standard columns were compared in terms of loading-displacement curve and energy dissipation capacity based on the nonlinear static analysis.

  • In the present study the behavior of fire and the residual strength of fire-ignited RC slabs are investigated by experimental tests and numerical simulations. The fire tests of RC slabs were carried out in a furnace using the ISO 834 standard fire. The load capacity of the cooled RC slabs that were not loaded during the fire tests was evaluated by additional 3 point bending tests. The influence of the proportion of PP (polypropylene) fibers in the RC slabs on the structural behavior of the RC slabs after the fire loading was investigated. The results of the fire tests showed that the maximum temperature of concrete with PP fiber was lower than that of concrete without PP fiber. As the concrete was heated, the ultimate compressive strength decreased and the ultimate strain increased. The load-deflection relations of RC slabs after fire loading were compared by using existing stress-strain-temperature models. The comparison between the numerical analysis and the experimental tests showed that some numerical analyses were reliable and therefore, can be applied to evaluate the ultimate load of RC slabs after fire loading. The ultimate load capacity after cooling down the RC slabs without PP fiber showed a considerable reduction from that of the RC slabs with PP fiber.

  • Purpose - This study analyzes loading efficiency by loading pattern for package standardization and reduction of logistics costs, along with the creation of revenue for the revenue review panel (RRP) of Membership Wholesale Clubs (MWC). The study aims to identify standard dimensions that can help improve the compatibility of the pallets related to display patterns preferred by the MWC and thereby explore ways to enhance logistics efficiency between manufacturers and retailers through standardization. Research design, data, and methodology - The study investigates and analyzes the current status based on actual case examples, i.e., manufacturer A and Korea's MWC (A company, B company, and C company), and thus devises improvement measures. To achieve this, the case of manufacturer A delivering to MWC was examined, and the actual pallet display patterns for each MWC were investigated by visiting each distribution site. In this study, TOPS (Total Optimization Packaging Software, USA) was used as the tool for pallet loading efficiency simulations the maximum allowable dimension was set to 0.0mm to prevent the pallet from falling outside the parameters, and the loading efficiency was analyzed with the pallet area. In other words, the study focused on dimensions (length x width x height) according to the research purpose and thereby deduced results. Results - The analysis of pallet loading patterns showed that the most preferred loading patterns for loading efficiency according to product specification, such as pinwheel, brick, and block patterns, were used in the case of the general distribution products, but the products were configured with block patterns in most cases when delivered to MWCs. The loading efficiency by loading pattern was analyzed with respect to 104 nationally listed standard dimensions. Meanwhile, No.51 (330 × 220mm) of KS T 1002 (1,100 × 1,100mm) was found to be the dimension that could bring about an improved loading efficiency, over 90.0% simultaneously in both the T-11 and T-12 pallet systems in a loading pattern configuration with the block pattern only, and the loading efficiency simulation results also confirmed this as the standard dimension that can be commonly applied to both the T-11 pallet (90.0%) and the T-12 pallet (90.7%) systems. Conclusions - The loading efficiency simulation results by loading pattern were analyzed: For the T-11 pallet system, 17 standard dimension sizes displayed the loading efficiency of 90.0% or more as block patterns, and the loading capacity was an average of 99.0%. For the T-12 pallet system, 35 standard dimension sizes displayed the loading efficiency of more than 90% as block patterns (the average loading efficiency of 98.6%). Accordingly, this study proposes that the standard dimensions of 17 sizes with the average loading efficiency of 99.0% should be applied in the use of the T-11 pallet system, and those of 35 sizes with the average loading efficiency of 98.6% should be reviewed and applied in the use of the T-12 pallet system.

  • Piles are structural elements made of steel, concrete or timber, and utilize as pile foundation which is one of deep foundations. Driven pile among them, which drives pile into the ground, is fast-constructable, less expensive and it supplies much bearing capacity. For these reasons, its demand is steady. In this study, by selecting the cases which reached ultimate failure during in-situ static loading tests, bearing capacities acquired from these tests were compared with those computed by existing theories and formula. As the results of the analysis, ultimate bearing capacity computed by theoretic formula were less or similar to those of test results in most cases, but lower ground water level and more dense layer where end of piles were reached remarkably high bearing capacity in theoretical methods. ${\beta}-method$ and Korean structure foundation design standard were sensitive to ground physical properties. Meyerhof metbod and API code were relatively independent from site condition.

  • In this paper, we analyzed transmission capability of VDSL system under the various noise in VDSL transmission lines. For this, we calculated transmission capacity using loading algorithm with transmission channel which suggested by ANSI DSL standard group TIE1.4. As a result, we've got approximated outcome similiar with target capacity in VDSL systems in short range. But we couldn't have got a outcome with target capacity in long range.

  • This study presents experimental investigation on the residual capacity of fire-damaged voided slabs according to loading conditions. In this study, two voided slab specimens were fabricated, and heated by ISO standard fire during 120 minutes with different loading conditions of presence of loading. These specimens were cooled down to room temperature, and the residual capacity of fire-damaged voided slabs was investigated. Based on test results, thermal distribution of voided slab through the depth of concrete sections is different by the loading conditions. The temperature of loaded specimen is rapidly elevated through the whole depth of concrete sections compared to the unloaded specimen. The residual strength of fire-damaged voided slab specimens are 60% and 66% of that of voided slab specimen without fire damage, and the residual stiffness of fire-damaged voided slab specimens decreases by 15%~23% of that of voided slab specimen without fire damage. In case of voided slab specimens subjected ISO standard fire, the loaded specimen shows the decrease of 10% in the residual strength and the decrease of 15% in the residual stiffness compared to the unloaded specimen. It seems to result from higher temperature of bottom reinforcements in the loaded specimen due to the cracks, and more extensive damage on concrete cover of reinforcements by spalling process according to load level.

  • Fuel assembly's mechanical characterization test facility (FAMeCT) in KAERI was constructed with upgraded functional features such as increased loading capacity, underwater vibration testing and severe earthquake simulation for extended fuel design guideline. This facility is designed and developed to provide out-pile fuel data for accident analysis model and fuel licensing. Functional tests of FAMeCT were performed to confirm functionality, structural integrity, and validity of newly-built fuel assembly mechanical test facility. Test program includes signal check of data acquisition system, load delivering capacity using real-sized fuel assemblies and a standard loading cylindrical rigid specimen. Fuel assembly's lateral bending test was carried out up to 30 mm of pull-out displacement. Limit case axial compression loading test up to 33 kN was performed to check structural integrity of UCPS (Upper Core Plate Simulator) support frame. Test results show that all test equipment and measurement system have acceptable range of alignment, signal to noise ratio, load carrying capacity limit without loss of integrity. This paper introduces newly constructed fuel assembly's mechanical test facility and summarizes results of functional test for the mechanical test equipment and data acquisition system.
