The present study proposes a simple equation to straightforwardly determine the potential plastic hinge length in boundary element of reinforced concrete shear walls. From the idealized curvature distribution along the shear wall length, a basic formula was derived as a function of yielding moment, maximum moment, and additional moment owing to diagonal tensile crack. Yielding moment and maximum moment capacities of shear wall were calculated on the basis of compatability of strain and equilibrium equation of internal forces. The development of a diagonal tensile crack at web was examined from the shear transfer capacity of concrete specified in ACI 318-11 provision and then the additional moment was calculated using the truss mechanism along the crack proposed by Park and Paulay. The moment capacities were simplified from an extensive parametric study; as a result, the equivalent plastic hinge length of shear walls could be formulated using indices of longitudinal tensile reinforcement at the boundary element, vertical reinforcement at web, and applied axial load. The proposed equation predicted accurately the measured plastic hinge length, providing that the mean and standard deviation of ratios between predictions and experiments are 1.019 and 0.102, respectively.

Verticality problem during the installation process in offshore wind turbine substructures could degrade the safety of the whole structures. Therefore, in this paper, the design of vertically adjustable transition piece(T.P.), using a PS anchor and grout of anchor socket in concrete gravity based substructure(G.B.S.), was proposed. T.P. was designed for 5MW offshore wind trubine and can adjust up to $0.5^{\circ}$ in verticality, occurred during installation. The design plan for each members and design procedure for T.P. was proposed. Then based on the proposed design, actual design targeting sea of Jeju-island was carried out. Finally, by use of non-linear 3D Finite Element Analysis(F.E.A.), evaluation of design was performed. As a result of evaluation, by checking load transfer mechanism and stress of T.P, proposed design was considered safe up to $0.5^{\circ}$ of adjustment.

The sectional methods of current design codes have been broadly used for the design of various kinds of reinforced concrete pile caps. Lately, the strut-tie model approach of current design codes also became one of the attracting methods for pile caps. However, since the sectional methods and the strut-tie model approach of current design codes have been established by considering the behaviors of structural concrete without D-regions and two-dimensional concrete structures with D-regions, respectively, it is inappropriate to apply the methods to the pile caps dominated by 3-dimensional structural behavior with disturbed stress regions. In this study, the refined 3-dimensional strut-tie models, which consider the strength characteristics of 3-dimensional concrete struts and nodal zones and the load-carrying capacity of concrete ties in tension regions, are proposed for the rational analysis and design of pile caps. To examine the validity of the proposed models and to verify the necessity of appropriate constituent elements for describing 3-dimensional structural behavior and load-transfer mechanism of pile caps, the ultimate strength of 78 reinforced concrete pile caps tested to failure was examined by the proposed models along with the sectional and strut-tie model methods of current design codes.
According to the capacity design concept underlying current steel seimsic provisions, the braces in concentrically braced frames should dissipate seismic energy through cyclic tension yielding and compression buckling. On the other hand, the beams and the columns in the braced bay should remain elastic for gravity load actions and additional column axial forces resulting from the brace buckling and yielding. However, due to the difficulty in accumulating the yielding and buckling-induced column forces from different stories, empirical and often conservative approaches have been used in design practice. Recently a totally different approach was proposed by Cho, Lee, and Kim (2011) for the prediction of column axial forces in inverted V-braced frames by explicitly considering brace buckling. The idea proposed in their study is extended to X-braced seismic frames which have structural member configurations and load transfer mechanism different from those of inverted V-braced frames. Especially, a more efficient rule is proposed in combining multi-mode effects on the column axial forces by using the modal-mass based weighting factor. The four methods proposed in this study are evaluated based on extensive inelastic dynamic analysis results.
Model tests were conducted to study the behavior of the piled raft foundation system on sands. Especially in this study, the method using the triaxial compression apparatus was devised and used to apply the confining pressure which is considered difficult in the existing model test on the soil. Steel rods (6mm dia.) and aluminum plates (8mm thickness, 50mm dia.) were used to simulate piles and rafts respectively. Jumunjin standard sands were used to ensure the homogeneity of the sample. After the sample with the piled raft model was laid inside the triaxial cell, the confining pressure was applied and then the compressive force was applied. The increase and/or decrease ratio of the bearing capacity, the load distribution ratio between raft and piles and the effect of settlements decrease depending on the confining pressure, the number of piles and the length of piles were analyzed and the bearing capacity and skin friction of the pile was calculated. By the results of these experiments, the bearing capacity increased and the settlement decreased with this piled raft foundation system. Especially the effect was larger with the increase of the number of piles than with the increase of length of piles. Hereafter, the study of the load transfer mechanism of piles under confining pressure would be made possible using these small model tester like triaxial compression apparatus.

The objective of this study is to develop an automatic object changer unit to improve processing problems existed in the conventional horizontal machining center. To achieve this goal, this study designed a horizontal transfer as the second project continued to the first project that designed a upward and downward traverse unit. A horizontal traverse unit shows a symmetric structure and consists of frame, which consists of four unit tools, motor and reducer, which are fixed at a frame, operation unit with pinions, first traverse unit, and second traverse unit. Constraint conditions based on the operation mechanism with these elements were configured and obtained following results after modeling a model for a traverse motor. In the kinematic expression of sliding motion with one degree of freedom, the sliding motion is constrained. Also, the rack 3 installed at a frame is used to configure possible kinematic constraint conditions of the rack 2 according to the rolling motion of the pinion 2 in the first traverse unit. In addition, the moment of inertia that is a type of kinetic energy in a converted horizontal traverse unit in the side of the reducer can be applied to introduce the moment of inertia of a converted horizontal traverse unit in the side of the reducer by using the sum of kinetic energy in the rack and pinion, which is a part of the horizontal traverse unit. Also, the equation of motion of the converted upward and downward traverse unit in the side of the motor using the equation of motion of the motor. Furthermore, the horizontal traverse unit predetermines the mass of the first and second traverse unit and applied load including the radius and reduction ratio of the pitch circle in the pinion 1 and applied load to the rack 2. Then, a proper motor can be determined using several parameters in the upward and downward traverse unit in order to verify such predetermined specifications. In future studies later this study, a simulation that verifies the results of the previous two stages of studies using a finite element method.

Fiber Reinforced Plastic (FRP) sheets have been widely used to retrofit and rehabilitate RC structures, while in case of retrofitting steel structures, there are no codes and researches. It stems from configuration of member and characteristics of bonding behavior. This study focused on the static behavior of steel beams reinforcement by AFRP sheets. The main objective of the experimental programme was the evaluation of the force transfer mechanism, the increment of the beam load carrying capacity and the bending stiffness. A bending test was conducted on a H-shaped steel beam, with aramid FRP sheets bonded to its flanges. The mid-span deflection and the strain from three points along AFRP sheets were recorded Test results exhibit that the increment of the load-carrying capacity with reference to a mid-span deflection level of 15 mm(1/125mm of the clear span) was equal to 9.4% and for the two layers case, an elastic stiffness increment is slightly higher than one layer case.

On farm analysis of protein, moisture and oil in cereals and oil seeds is quickly being adopted by Australian farmers. The benefits of being able to measure protein and oil in grains and oil seeds are several : $\square$ Optimize crop payments $\square$ Monitor effects of fertilization $\square$ Blend on farm to meet market requirements $\square$ Off farm marketing - sell crop with load by load analysis However farmers are not NIR spectroscopists and the process of calibrating instruments has to the duty of the supplier. With the potential number of On Farm analyser being in the thousands, then the task of calibrating each instrument would be impossible, let alone the problems encountered with updating calibrations from season to season. As such, NIR technology Australia has developed a mechanism for \ulcorner\ulcorner\ulcorner their range of Cropscan 2000G NIR analysers so that a single calibration can be transferred from the master instrument to every slave instrument. Whole grain analysis has been developed over the last 10 years using Near Infrared Transmission through a sample of grain with a pathlength varying from 5-30mm. A continuous spectrum from 800-1100nm is the optimal wavelength coverage fro these applications and a grating based spectrophotometer has proven to provide the best means of producing this spectrum. The most important aspect of standardizing NIB instruments is to duplicate the spectral information. The task is to align spectrum from the slave instruments to the master instrument in terms of wavelength positioning and then to adjust the spectral response at each wavelength in order that the slave instruments mimic the master instrument. The Cropscan 2000G and 2000B Whole Grain Analyser use flat field spectrographs to produce a spectrum from 720-1100nm and a silicon photodiode array detector to collect the spectrum at approximately 10nm intervals. The concave holographic gratings used in the flat field spectrographs are produced by a process of photo lithography. As such each grating is an exact replica of the original. To align wavelengths in these instruments, NIR wheat sample scanned on the master and the slave instruments provides three check points in the spectrum to make a more exact alignment. Once the wavelengths are matched then many samples of wheat, approximately 10, exhibiting absorbances from 2 to 4.5 Abu, are scanned on the master and then on each slave. Using a simple linear regression technique, a slope and bias adjustment is made for each pixel of the detector. This process corrects the spectral response at each wavelength so that the slave instruments produce the same spectra as the master instrument. It is important to use as broad a range of absorbances in the samples so that a good slope and bias estimate can be calculated. These Slope and Bias (S'||'&'||'B) factors are then downloaded into the slave instruments. Calibrations developed on the master instrument can then be downloaded onto the slave instruments and perform similarly to the master instrument. The data shown in this paper illustrates the process of calculating these S'||'&'||'B factors and the transfer of calibrations for wheat, barley and sorghum between several instruments.
In this study, the stress distribution for different tibial components was observed In order to Investigate the load transfer and potential failure mechanism of the tibial components subjected to dynamic impact loading and also to evacuate the effect of bone-implant bonding conditions on the implant system. The 3-dimensional finite element models included an intact tibia, cemented metal-backed tibial component, uncemented metal-blocked tibial component, cemented all-polyethylene tibial component, and metal-backed component with a debonded bone/stem interface. The results showed that the cemented metal-hocked component Induced slightly higher peak stress at stem tip than the uncemented component. The peak stress of the all-polyethylene tibia1 component at stem trip showed about half thats of metal-backed tibial components. The all-polyethylene component showed a similar dynamic response to intact tibia. In case of debonded bone/stem interface, the peak stress below the metal tray was three times Higher than that of the fully bonded interface and unstable stress distribution at the stem tip was observed with time, which causes another adverse bone apposition and implant loosening. Thus, the all-polyethylene tibial component bonded fully to the surrounding bone might be most desirable system under an impact loading.
This study is to propose a modified equivalent frame model for flat plate slabs under lateral loads. ACI 318 (2002) allows equivalent frame methods to conduct two-way slab system analysis subjected to gravity loads as well as lateral loads. Since the equivalent frame method in the ACI 318 (2002) has been developed base on the behavior of two-way system for gravity loads, and nay not predict the behavior of flat plate slabs under lateral loads with good precision. This study develops a modified equivalent frame model which can give more precise answer for flat plate slabs under lateral loads. This model reflects the actual force transfer mechanism among the components of flat plate slab system, which are slabs, columns and torsional members, more accurately under lateral loads than existing equivalent frame models. The accuracy of this model is verified by comparing the analysis results using the proposed model with the results of finite element analysis. The analysis results of other existing models are included in the comparison. For this purpose, 2 story building having 3 spans in both directions is considered. Analytical results show that the modified equivalent frame model produces comparable drift and slab internal moments with those obtained from finite element analysis.
