  • The alternative precise method for voltage balancing and load compensation using the susceptances control of a STATCOM is discussed. With the control of STATCOM's output current, it is confirmed that the compensation susceptances can be variable. And then the STATCOM's control method about compensation susceptances for load compensation and voltage balancing/regulation is derived. Finally, the effectiveness of load compensation and voltage balancing/regulation is confirmed through computer simulation.

A High Current Efficiency CMOS LDO Regulator with Low Power Consumption and Small Output Voltage Variation

  • In this paper we present an LDO based on an error amplifier. The designed error amplifier has a gain of 89.93dB at low frequencies. This amplifier's Bandwidth is 50.8MHz and its phase margin is $59.2^{\circ}C$. Also we proposed a BGR. This BGR has a low output variation with temperature and its PSRR at 1 KHz is -71.5dB. For a temperature variation from $-40^{\circ}C$ to $125^{\circ}C$ we have just 9.4mV variation in 3.3V LDO output. Also it is stable for a wide range of output load currents [0-200mA] and a $1{\mu}F$ output capacitor and its line regulation and especially load regulation is very small comparing other papers. The PSRR of proposed LDO is -61.16dB at 1 KHz. Also we designed it for several output voltages by using a ladder of resistors, transmission gates and a decoder. Low power consumption is the other superiority of this LDO which is just 1.55mW in full load. The circuit was designed in $0.35{\mu}m$ CMOS process.

A Voltage Regulation System for Independent Load Operation of Stand Alone Self-Excited Induction Generators

  • In recent years, some converter structures and analyzing methods for the voltage regulation of stand-alone self-excited induction generators (SEIGs) have been introduced. However, all of them are concerned with the three-phase voltage control of three-phase SEIGs or the single-phase voltage control of single-phase SEIGs for the operation of these machines under balanced load conditions. In this paper, each phase voltage is controlled separately through separated converters, which consist of a full-bridge diode rectifier and one-IGBT. For this purpose, the principle of the electronic load controllers supported by fuzzy logic is employed in the two-different proposed converter structures. While changing single phase consumer loads that are independent from each other, the output voltages of the generator are controlled independently by three-number of separated electronic load controllers (SELCs) in two different mode operations. The aim is to obtain a rated power from the SEIG via the switching of the dump loads to be the complement of consumer load variations. The transient and steady state behaviors of the whole system are investigated by simulation studies from the point of getting the design parameters, and experiments are carried out for validation of the results. The results illustrate that the proposed SELC system is capable of coping with independent consumer load variations to keep output voltage at a desired value for each phase. It is also available for unbalanced consumer load conditions. In addition, it is concluded that the proposed converter without a filter capacitor has less harmonics on the currents.

SIDO boost converter에서 크로스 레귤레이션을 줄이기 위한 전하 복사방법 (Charge Copy Method for Reduction of Cross Regulation in SIDO Boost Converter)

  • 기존 SIDO(Single Inductor Dual Output) boost converter에서는 전력 사용량의 변화에 맞게 부하에 전하를 공급하는 시간을 바꾸게 된다. 이 때 boost converter의 스위칭 주파수가 변해야 할 정도로 어느 한 부하의 전력 사용량이 크게 바뀔 경우, 나머지 부하에 전하를 공급하는 시간도 바뀌게 된다. 이로 인해 크로스 레귤레이션이 일어난다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 어느 한 부하의 전력 사용량의 변화로 스위칭 주파수가 정수 비로 바뀔 때 나머지 부하에 전하를 공급하는 시간도 같은 정수 비로 변화 시킨다. 이 방법을 전하 복사기법(charge copy)이라 하며 이 효과로 인하여 크로스 레귤레이션이 감소한다. 제안하는 방법의 시뮬레이션 결과로 크로스 레귤레이션이 기존의 방법보다 10.42mV/A 만큼 감소하고, 복원 시간은 39.118us 만큼 작아지는 결과를 보였다.

Fast-Response Load Regulation of DC-DC Converter By High-Current Clamp

  • A new fast-response high-current clamp DC-DC converter circuit design is presented that will meet the requirements and features of the new generation of microprocessors and digital systems. The clamp in the proposed converter amplifies the current in case of severe load changes and is able to produce high slew rate of output current and capability to keep constant the output voltage. This proposed high-current clamp technique is theoretically loss less, low cost and easy to implement with simple control scheme. This is modified from a basic buck topology by replacing the output inductor with two magnetically coupled inductors. Inductors are difference in inductance, one has large inductance and other has small inductance. The inductor with small inductance will take over the output inductor during fast load transient. It speedup the output current slew rate and reduce the output voltage drop in the case of heavy burden load changes.

소형 전원용 스위칭 파워 모듈 (Switching Power Module for a Small-Sized Electric Power Source)

  • 전원장치의 소형화 핵심기술인 반도체 스위칭 기술을 이용하여 5 V/500 mA급 트랜스리스형 파워모듈(transless type power module)을 설계하였다. 파워 모들은 강압형 chopper 방식을 이용하였으며, 스위칭회로, 제어회로, 전압검출회로, 그리고 정전압 회로 등으로 구성되어 었다. 본 연구에서 설계한 스위칭 파워모듈은 0.2 V의 load regulation, 0.1 V의 line regulation, 85 mVp-p의 output ripple 전압, 64.7 kHz의 스위칭 주파수, 최대 58% 정도의 효율을 나타내었으며, 신뢰성 및 EMC 평가항목을 만족하였다.

  • Leisure boat and yacht should be designed to meet the domestic regulation and international standards as large merchant vessels do. Recently, each countries are encouraged to follow the regulation of International standards organization. Furthermore domestic organization has not yet announced the design rule and regulation for FRP-catamaran yacht design. Therefore, it has been required to make the regulation for domestic situations of FRP-catamaran. This study deals with the structural strength evaluation of 50ft catamaran by using finite element analysis. Design load of the regulation of International standards organization are compared with the regulation of Korea Register of shipping and Lloyd's Register.

Optimal Voltage Regulation Method for Distribution Systems with Distributed Generation Systems Using the Artificial Neural Networks

  • With the development of industry and the improvement of living standards, better quality in power electric service is required more than ever before. This paper deals with the optimal algorithms for voltage regulation in the case where Distributed Storage and Generation (DSG) systems are operated in distribution systems. It is very difficult to handle the interconnection issues for proper voltage managements, because the randomness of the load variations and the irregular operation of DSG should be considered. This paper proposes the optimal on-line real time voltage regulation methods in power distribution systems interconnected with the DSG systems. In order to deliver suitable voltage to as many customers as possible, the optimal sending voltage should be decided by the effective voltage regulation method by using artificial neural networks to consider the rapid load variation and random operation characteristics of DSG systems. The simulation results from a case study show that the proposed method can be a practical tool for the voltage regulation in distribution systems including many DSG systems.

  • Energy Storage System(ESS) can be used as several purposes such as uninterruptible power supply (UPS), frequency regulation, maximum load cut, and etc. This paper analyzes and simulates the reclosing operation in distribution system with ESS for frequency regulation and maximum load cut. To solve the effect from ESS, two sequences in reclosing process are added to conventional reclosing. The modelings and simulations of reclosing operation using EMTP/ATPDraw are performed.

  • This paper describes a simple and high-performance LDO regulator designed using a $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process. It is designed to provide a regulated voltage for on-chip small loads instead of for off-chip heavy loads. Since the load capacitance is very small in this applications, the frequency compensation can be easily achieved without a buffer. The designed LDO drives a load current up to 15mA and dissipates only 12uA quiescent current. The line regulation is and the load regulation is for a 9mA load step. The PSRR at 10kHz is 54dB.
