It is important to train lower limb muscle strength using a tilting table to recover the lower extremity function of hemiplegia patients. It is known that the foot deformity and poor posture of hemiplegia patients can reduce the effectiveness of lower limb rehabilitation training. In this study, we developed a sensor system that can measure the foot pressure distribution of the patients for the load control of the lower extremity during lower limb rehabilitation training and it can be substituted for conventional high-cost technologies.

This paper presents characteristics of vacuum preloaded porous air bearing. Pressure distribution of a porous pad and vacuum pocket are calculated. And load capacity and stiffness of the bearing are analyzed with various vacuum parameters, that is. clearance height. tube diameter, tube length. pumping speed of vacuum pump, vacuum pocket to porous pad area ratio. From the simulation results, optimum clearance for best performance can be selected adjusting these parameters, especially tube diameter which is the most dominant source.
Thunderstorm downbursts are responsible for numerous structural failures around the world. The wind characteristics in thunderstorm downbursts containing vortex rings differ with those in 'traditional' boundary layer winds (BLW). This paper initially performs an unsteady-state simulation of the flow structure in a downburst (modelled as a impinging jet with its diameter being $D_{jet}$) using a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method, and then analyses the pressure distribution on a solar updraft tower (SUT) in the downburst. The pressure field shows agreement with other previous studies. An additional pair of low-pressure region and high-pressure region is observed due to a second vortex ring, besides a foregoing pair caused by a primary vortex ring. The evolutions of pressure coefficients at five orientations of two representative heights of the SUT in the downburst with time are investigated. Results show that pressure distribution changes over a wide range when the vortices are close to the SUT. Furthermore, the fluctuations of external static pressure distribution for the SUT case 1 (i.e., radial distance from a location to jet center x=$D_{jet}$) with height are more intense due to the down striking of the vortex flow compared to those for the SUT case 2 (x=$2D_{jet}$). The static wind loads at heights z/H higher than 0.3 will be negligible when the vortex ring is far away from the SUT. The inverted wind load cases will occur when vortex is passing through the SUT except on the side faces. This can induce complex dynamic response of the SUT.
The numerical analysis of the negative pressure porous gas bearings is presented. The pressure distribution is calculated using the finite difference method. The Reynolds equation and Darcy's equation are solved simultaneously. The air bearing stiffness and damping are evaluated using the perturbation method. Rectangular uniform grid is employed to model the bearing. The vacuum preloading is considered. The pressure in the vacuum pocket is assumed to be a constant negative pressure. The total load, stiffness, damping and flow rate are calculated fur several geometrical configurations and several values of negative pressure. It is found that too large vacuum pocket can result in negative total force.
In wind load calculations based on pressure measurements, the concept of 'tributary area' is usually used. The literature has less guidance for a systematic computational methodology for calculating tributary areas, in general, and for scattered pressure taps, in particular. To the best of the author's knowledge, there is no generic mathematical equation that helps calculate the tributary areas for irregular pressure taps. Traditionally, the drawing of tributary boundaries for scattered and intensively distributed taps may not be feasible (a time and resource consuming task). To alleviate this problem, this paper presents a proposed numerical approach for tributary area calculations on rectangular surfaces. The approach makes use of the available coordinates of the pressure taps and the dimensions of the surface. The proposed technique is illustrated by two application examples: first, quasi-regularly distributed pressure taps, and second, taps that have scattered distribution on a rectangular surface. The accuracy and the efficacy of the approach are assessed, and a comparison with a traditional method is presented.
This Paper aims at investigating the distribution of stresses and the displacement of soft foundation layer subject to embankment load by the finite elements method (FEM). The stresses include the volumetric stress, the Pore water Pressure, the vertical stress. The horizontal stress and the shear stress. The Christian-Boehmer's method was selected as technique for FEM and the general elasticity model and modified Cam-clay model as the governing equations under Plain-strain condition depending on drained and undrained conditions. The results obtained are as follows: 1. The volumetric stress is almost consistent with the pore water pressure. This means that the total stress is the same value with the pore water pressure under the undrined condition 2. The vertical stress appears in the same value regardless of the drained or undrained condition and the model of the constitutive equations. 3. The horizontal stress has almost same value with the drain condition model. 4. depending on the constitutive model. The shear stress is affected by both the drain condition and the constitute model. The resulted value by the modified Cam-clay model has the largest. 5. The direction of the displacement vector turns outward near the tip of load during the increasing load. 6. The magnitude of displacement due to the modified Cam.clay model is as twice large as that due to elastic model.
One of the important use of piles is to furnish lateral support and nowadays it is getting highlighted due to the increase of skyscrapers, transmission towers, wind turbines, and other lateral action dependent structures. After Broms (1964), many researchers have suggested methods for estimating lateral capacity of pile. But each method assumes different earth pressure distribution and lateral earth pressure coefficient causing confusion on the part of pile designers. Lateral earth pressure, essential in lateral capacity estimation, is influenced by pile's rotational behavior under lateral load. Prasad and Chari (1999) assumed the rotation point of pile and suggested an equation of ultimate lateral load capacity. In this study, we investigate the depth of rotation point in both homogeneous soil and multi layered soil, and compare with the estimation value by previous research. Test results show that measured rotation point and estimated value by Prasad and Chari's equation show good agreement and multi layered condition affects the location of rotation point to be changed.

In this paper, the characteristics and load carrying capacity of square pocket surfaces on a slider bearing are discussed for the thin film effect by the square pocket slider bearing. To study the lubrication, a Reynolds equation is used in this paper for the analysis of the slider bearing characteristics with square pocket surfaces. For numerical analysis, the central differencing scheme finite difference method is used. In a slider bearing with square pocket surfaces, the simulation dependent parameters such as pressure and load carrying capacity of the bearing can be acquired from the independent parameters, the slope of the slider bearing and number of pockets on the upper slider. These results can be acquired by the programmed softwar,e and they can be analyzed and stored in a sequential data file for later analysis. Furthermore, their pressure and load capacity distribution can be displayed easily by using the developed program with the Matlab GUI.
In this paper, static characteristics of a cryogenic hydrostatic journal bearing which has 2-rows staggered recesses are numerically analyzed. The regime of operation of this bearing is fully turbulent with large fluid inertia effects. The turbulent lubrication equation is solved under the assumption that turbulence parameters are decided by the Reynolds numbers. Pressure drop caused by inertia effect at the recess edge is considered in this analysis. Also density and viscosity of working fluid are considered as function of only pressure. Numerical results for a cryogenic Hydrostatic journal bearing show pressure distribution, load capacity, flow rate, and recess pressure. The effects of turbulent flow, pressure drop and variable liquid properties are discussed.
The present paper deals with the nonlinear analysis of the functionally graded piezoelectric (FGP) annular plate with two smart layers as sensor and actuator. The normal pressure is applied on the plate. The geometric nonlinearity is considered in the strain-displacement equations based on Von-Karman assumption. The problem is symmetric due to symmetric loading, boundary conditions and material properties. The radial and transverse displacements are supposed as two dominant components of displacement. The constitutive equations are derived for two sections of the plate, individually. Total energy of the system is evaluated for elastic solid and piezoelectric sections in terms of two components of displacement and electric potential. The response of the system can be obtained using minimization of the energy of system with respect to amplitude of displacements and electric potential. The distribution of all material properties is considered as power function along the thickness direction. Displacement-load and electric potential-load curves verify the nonlinearity nature of the problem. The response of the linear analysis is investigated and compared with those results obtained using the nonlinear analysis. This comparison justifies the necessity of a nonlinear analysis. The distribution of the displacements and electric potential in terms of non homogenous index indicates that these curves converge for small value of piezoelectric thickness with respect to elastic solid thickness.
