In this study, to investigate the effect of the array of cylindrical baffles on debris flow impact load, a series of small-scale tests were conducted according to varying row numbers of installed baffles in the flume. After the test, the behavior of debris flow interacting with baffles during the flow process was investigated. Based on the results, the influence varying velocity and flow depth on Froude number and dynamic pressure coefficient were analyzed. Test results showed that the greatest peak impact load occurred at the second row of baffle arrays. The dynamic pressure coefficient was also estimated by suggested equation and compared with previous studies.

Nano-scale studies on adhesion and friction were conducted in Si-wafer (100) using Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM). Glass (Borosilicate) balls of radii 0.32$\mu\textrm{m}$, 1.25$\mu\textrm{m}$, and 2.5$\mu\textrm{m}$, mounted on cantilever (Contact Mode type NPS) were used as tips. Adhesion and friction between Si-wafer and glass tips were measured at ambient temperature (24${\pm}$1$^{\circ}C$) and humidity (45${\pm}$5%). Friction was measured as a function of applied normal load in the range of 0-160 nN. Results showed that, both adhesion and friction increased with the tip radii. Also, friction increased linearly as a function of applied normal load. The effect of tip size on adhesion and friction was explained as the influence of the capillary force exerted by meniscus and that of the contact area on these parameters respectively. The coefficient of friction was estimated in two different ways, as the slope from the plot of friction force against the applied normal load and as the ratio between the friction force and the applied normal load. Both these estimates showed that the coefficient of friction increased with the tip size. Further, the influence of the adhesion force on the coefficient of friction was also discussed.
Effects of sliding speed, applied load, and thickness of PMMA (Poly Methyl Methacrylate) coating layers on their dry sliding frictional and wear behavior were investigated. Sliding wear tests were carried out using a pin-on-disk wear tester. The PMMA layer was coated on Si wafer by a spin coating process with two different thicknesses, $1.5\mu\textrm{m}$ and $0.8\mu\textrm{m}$. AISI 52100 bearing steel balls were used as a counterpart of the PMMA coating during the wear. Normal applied load and sliding speed were varied. Wear mechanisms of the coatings were investigated by examining worn surfaces using an SEM. Friction coefficient of the coatings decreased with the increase of the applied load. Both adhesion and deformation of the coating determined the coefficient. The thicker PMMA layer with the thickness of $1.5mutextrm{m}$ showed lower friction coefficient than the thinner layer under most test conditions. Effects of sliding speed and applied load on the frictional behavior were varied depending on the thickness of the coating layer.

The friction and lubrication characteristics of joint cartilage were investigated using the metatarso-phalangeal joint cartilage of rabbit against rotating stainless steel disk. Friction tests were conducted by dry and bovine serum lubricated sliding at room and body temperatures. For the dry sliding tests, low friction coefficient of 0.1-0.15 was observed at the early period of test, and then the friction coefficient increased as a test continued. With increasing applied load the early period of low friction lengthens. For the lubricated sliding tests, the coefficient of friction decreased as the applied load increased. And also the coefficient of friction decreased continuously to 0.07 as the test duration increases. These results can be interpreted that the squeeze or weeping lubrication mechanism dominates the friction and lubrication characteristics in the joint cartilage of rabbit.
The friction and wear behaviors of MoS$_2$ coatings were investigated by using a pin and disk type tester. The experiment was conducted by using silicon nitride as pin material and MoS$_2$-on-bearing steel as disk material under different operating conditions that include linear sliding velocities in the range of 22-66 ㎜/sec, normal loads varying from 9.8 N to 29.4 N, corresponding to maximum contact pressures of 1.18-2.83 GPa and atmospheric conditions of high vacuum, medium vacuum, ambient air. The results showed that low friction coefficient of the coating has been identified in high vacuum and that friction coefficient and wear volume increased with increasing normal load. Also at high load conditions, the friction coefficient and wear volume increased with increasing sliding velocity.
Present study was undertaken to investigate the effects of composition ratio and temperature on the friction and wear of PTFE-polyimide composites under the atmosphere of nitrogen gas. The load range was 0.62-3.46 MPa, and the temperature range was room temperature and 200$^{\circ}$C. To mention some of the notable results, friction coefficient of PTFE 100% varied relatively little within the given load and temperature ranges. Polyimide 100% showed the lowest friction coefficient of 0.06 at 200$^{\circ}$C among all the experiments. PTFE 80%-polyimide 20% showed the lowest wear factors on the whole. Friction coefficient of PTFE 20%-polyimide 80% varied from the highest 0.35 to the lowest 0.09 among all the materials at room temperature, and showed almost the same lowest values with polyimide 100% at 200$^{\circ}$C. Suggestion of friction and wear mechanisms of the materials was tried to explain the observed phenomena including above mentioned results.
The friction and wear behavior of MoS$_2$coatings was investigated using a pin and disk type tester. The experiment was conducted with silicon nitride as the pin material and MoS$_2$-on-bearing steel as the disk material under different operating conditions that included linear sliding velocities within a range of 2266 mm/sec, normal loads varying from 9.829.4 N, corresponding to maximum contact pressures of 1.782.83 Gpa, and high vacuum, medium vacuum, and ambient air atmospheric conditions. The results showed a low friction coefficient far the coating in a high vacuum, plus the friction coefficient and wear volume increased with an increased normal load. Furthermore, under high load conditions, the friction coefficient and wear volume also increased with an increased sliding velocity.

In this study, the pressuremeter test (PMT) and the standard penetration test (SPT) were performed on the lateral pile loading tests site to evaluate the coefficient of subgrade reaction, which is used for load-deformation behavior analysis of laterally loaded piles by elastic subgrade reaction method. As a result, widely used empirical formulas of the coefficient of subgrade reaction by N values of SPT is evaluated conservatively lateral behavior of piles. While the method of directly used PMT results and evaluation method of the coefficient of subgrade reaction considering deformation moduli of soil and a pile diameter that is able to estimate very similar to actual load-deformation behavior of laterally loaded piles in deformation range of 0.5%-1.0% of a pile diameter.

The friction and wear behavior of MoS$_2$Coatings were investigated using a pin and disk type tester. The experiment was conducted using silicon nitride as pin material and MoS$_2$-on-bearing steel as disk material under different operating conditions that include linear sliding speeds in the range of 22~66mm/sec, normal loads varying from 9.8~29.4N, corresponding to maximum contact pressure of 1.78~2.830GPa and atmospheric conditions of high vacuum, medium vacuum, ambient air. The results showed that low friction coefficient of the coating has been identified when running in high vacuum and that friction coefficient and wear volume increased with increasing normal load. Also at high load conditions, the friction coefficient and wear volume increased with increasing sliding velocity.
For the safety of railway, it should be evaluated for the running safety by measuring the derailment coefficient. Although railway has run the fixed and maintained rail, some of railway is derailed. This report shows the results that performed the static load test, wheelset manufacturing for test, main line running test on the basis of the derailment theory and experience. It is executed main line test into more than 80km/h for estimating the curving performance and running safety of Gwangju EMU. As the test results, could confirm the curving performance and running safety of Gwangju EMU from the results of the wheel unloading, lateral force, derailment coefficient etc. Derailment coefficient was less than 0.8, and lateral force allowance limit and wheel load reduction ratio were enough safe.
