  • Paraganglioma is a rare tumor of paraganglia, derived from neural crest cells in sympathetic or parasympathetic ganglions. It can be widely distributed from the skull base to the bottom of the pelvis. The pancreas, however, is a rare location of this neoplasm, and only a limited number of cases have been reported in the English literature, especially with gadoxetic-acid-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and diffusion-weighted images (DWI). We herein report a case of pathologically proven paraganglioma in the pancreas head with a literature review on endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS), computed tomography (CT), gadoxetic-acid-enhanced MRI, and DWI sequence.

  • Nursing majors are a combination of theoretical and practical education, and since the advisor cannot participate in all practices in clinical practice, the efficiency and effectiveness of practical education are limited in judging the results according to students' reactions. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to analyze the domestic literature on the efficiency of clinical practice of nursing college students. The analysis target was selected through PRISMA flow, and the results were derived through categorization and questioning based on content analysis. Looking at the results, research related to the adaptation of trainees was mainstream, and specifically, research related to the characteristics, conflicts, clinical practice environment, and interpersonal anguish of trainees was conducted. In addition, it was confirmed that active and systematic intervention of practical guidance professors was required, such as possible safety accidents, emotional labor problems, and dilemmas during the practice period. Through this study, it is suggested that a systematic framework for nursing and clinical practice should be prepared.

  • Re-ankylosis is a common postoperative complication of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) ankylosis surgery. Various surgical options to prevent re-ankylosis, both with and without interpositional material, have been discussed in the literature. However, no standardized protocol has been suggested for management or prevention of TMJ ankylosis. This paper discusses the probable causes behind TMJ re-ankylosis and presents a case of unilateral TMJ re-ankylosis, which was managed by gap arthroplasty using an autologous abdominal dermal fat graft as an interpositional material and closely monitored for signs of relapse. Autologous fat graft acted as an effective barrier between the glenoid fossa and mandibular condyle, thus preventing dead space, hematoma and heterotrophic bone formation. A brief review of the literature and update on TMJ re-ankylosis are also presented.

  • As the foundation of the National Digital Library(NDL) by the National Library of Korea is in progress, there has been an increasing interest in developing a policy for its successful operations. Although the research and support related to building domestic library policies have been limited so far, it is an important ongoing problem to develop and improve systematic and detailed policies for information services of digital libraries in order for them to continuously advance in a rapidly changing information environment along with various issues. Therefore, through a thorough review of the literature and overseas cases related to the development of digital library policies, this research aims to provide a new direction for establishing service policies of domestic digital libraries including the NDL by extracting its critical factors and issues.

  • This study aimed to investigate primary students' science-related attitudes through the literature review. Ninety-four papers published in domestic science education journals, since 1990, were collected and were followed by content analysis. In this study, science-related attitude was conceptualized as attitude toward science, scientist, science-related occupations, and school science, which is composed of cognitive, affective and behavioral domains. Based on the conceptualization, the instruments used for measuring students' attitudes were analyzed. The analysis of definition of science-related attitude in the articles showed different foci on cognitive, affective and behavioral domains. To suggest the effective instruction for enhancing students' science-related attitudes, this study identified students' attitude with gender, grade, residence and achievement level. The result showed that male, urban, higher-grade and better performed students had more positive attitude than female, rural, lower-grade and less performed students. As for the factors in science-related attitude, I categorized the factors into personal, environmental and pedagogical aspects, and found that psychological elements in all domains were most influential to students' change of science-related attitudes. It is interesting to note that students showed dichotomous views about experiment and that task-oriented instruction failed to enhance students' attitude. Based on the research findings, this study suggests effective instruction for improving students' attitudes and future research for science education.

  • Purpose: We conducted a literature review for analyzing the effect of massage on children according to their developmental stage in Korea. Methods: Various academic databases were utilized for a bibliographic search, and the keyword, 'massage', was used to identify relevant references without limits on years to determine the overall research trends. Finally, 38 references cited from 1998 to 2014 were selected in Korea. Results: Only two studies adapted a randomized controlled trial design. With regard to children's developmental stage, half studies were conducted for neonates. Moreover, the percentage of application of a sensory stimulation protocol in newborn infants was 47.3%. Eighty four point one percent of studies measured physiological characteristics as outcome variables and the rate of growth was the most common (46.5%) physiological characteristic. On the contrary, only one study (4%) was conducted to evaluate the effect of massage on psychological characteristics in school aged and the adolescents. Conclusion: This study provides fundamental data on the development and direction for future studies by analyzing studies on pediatric massage in Korea.

  • This study intends to recognize the old as an independent consumer, and to examine the behavioral characteristics of the old through literature review. This study also tries to suggest the direction of study on the elderly consumers' behavior. It has been generally accepted that the elderly consumers are highly constricted in purchase behavior or in information process capacity by the decline of biological competence. But according to the literature review, this general viewpoint does not reflect the reality. The literatures say that the old consumers do not so much differ from the non-old consumers in behavioral characteristics. They rather seem to be more active consumers. Nevertheless, what they claim could be a fallacy due to the overspecialization of sample. And another direction of future research is to change the age boundary of the old. The existing studies were largely based on the distinction between the old and the non-old by the age of 60 or 65. It is possible that behavioral difference is diffused by the common purchasing patterns of cohort around the age of 60 or 65. Accordingly it would be a good attempt to widen the range of age group more than 10 years.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to review the literature on intervention for breast cancer survivors and their partners. Methods: The literature search was performed using MEDLINE, Pubmed, and Proquest to summarize the current state of knowledge regarding intervention for breast cancer survivors and their partners. Articles published between January 2000 and December 2011 were included. Results: A total of 14 studies were identified. Couple-base d intervention was more effective than intervention for survivors alone. Intervention to partners had also effects on their wives. Most studies were conducted in USA with Caucasian women. Sample size of intervention studies was small with most being pilot studies. Conclusion: Providing couple-based intervention to breast cancer survivors could have positive impacts on physical, interpersonal, and social aspects in breast cancer survivors. Future studies with large sample and different ethnicity are needed to confirm the effects of couple-based interventions for breast cancer survivors.

  • This review paper describes the ambient air PAH concentrations in different developing Asian countries, including China, Afghanistan, India, Malaysia, Turkey, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Cambodia. In this study, more than 75 research papers published in the English literature were reviewed with respect to the seasonal and locational concentrations of PAHs in each of 9 different Asian countries. This study compared, discussed and tabulated the PAH concentrations in developing Asian countries over a one decade (2000-2011) period. The PAH concentrations measured in developing countries highlights the necessity to improve the air quality in those countries. Compared to the developed nations in Asia, developing countries are almost one decade away from implementing environmental policies, such as Euro standards. This review discusses the reasons for the high PAH concentrations in developing nations particularly in China and India. Based on the literature available, some suggestions are made to reduce the concentrations of PAHs in the ambient air of developing nations. The total data obtained from the literature survey is tabulated and presented as supplementary information at the end of the manuscript.
