  • Previous studies on educational programming language reported that programming education can help students develop their abilities in cognitive, logical and reflecting thinking for problem solving. In this study, we examined the effects of Scratch programming language education on self-directed learning ability through six-grade elementary school students. The study results are that the treatment group shows more improvement with statistical significance on the subscales of self-directed learning such as openness, internal motivation, and autonomy, than the control group. These effects are especially larger with the students with high ICT literacy, whose degree is higher than that as a result of using digital textbook, UCC, and cyber home education reported in previous studies.

  • This study aims to investigate the experiences of librarians/staff members who are responsible for facilitating makerspaces in public libraries, including their works and core competencies, their needs and experiences of training, and future plans in makerspaces. To do that, we carried out semi-structured interviews with 11 librarians/staff members and 1 library director from 7 public library makerspaces. Findings show that the participants received financial supports from the government agencies or/and relied on their library budget to run makerspaces. They identified competencies such as technology literacy, domain knowledge, teaching/programming, willingness to learn and curiosity, communication skills, leadership, and design-thinking. They have future plans for expanding spaces, purchasing equipments, program development, and so on. We believe findings could be useful for those who currently manage or plan to implement a public library makerspace by understanding practical issues and training needs in makerspaces.

  • Humanities-collaborated practices in various fields have been supported by several governmental policies as a way to overcome recent social problems. Museum, due to its roles in preserving and sharing cultural and historical heritage for the development of society and communities, has emerged as a key base for the humanities-collaborated practices. This study, in this context, aimed to analyze how the humanities-based museum education programs have been practiced in the museums, which, in turn, might provide a basic data for the future direction and development of the programs and the related governmental policy as well. For this purpose, this study first examined theoretical framework for the link between humanities and museum education, from which a survey was developed. The survey was conducted to 75 museum educators who have been in charge of humanities-based educational programs. The result showed that most programs seemed to reflect the basic direction and purpose of the humanities-linked with museum education. Yet, more needs were found in terms of the educational themes and methods which can facilitate multicultural literacy and reflective thinking and activities within experiential learning environments.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate how children use the PAIR strategy for their audiences in the writing on the screen and how the comments play a role to communicate between an author and audiences. In order to perform this research, 7 elementary school students(4th-6th grade) participated in the literary education program designed to promote to write on the screen. As a result, 42 body texts(635 sentences) and 424 comments of children's writing on the screen were collected and analyzed according to the PAIR strategies and performance behaviour. The findings are as follows: first, 'attracting' is used the most among PAIR strategies and second, the most frequent performance behavior of comment is 'expression'. These findings indicate that children's writing strategy considering audiences tends to be emotionally appealing and performance behavior of comment is likely to focus on affective expression.

  • This study aims to analyze and compare the components of school library laws of Korea and Japan. The laws of two nations were legislated by the members of the National Assembly, and NGO contributed significantly to the legislative process. The common parts of the two laws are objectives, definitions, responsibilities of nations, establishments, tasks, human resources, collaborative networks, and education, etc. For the task of school libraries, Korean law emphasizes the function of education, while the Japan law focuses on the basic duties of school libraries. In terms of human resources, school libraries in Korea can have a teacher librarian, a practice teacher, or a librarian, but in Japan, they can have either a teacher librarian or a school librarian. The Korea law specifies the aspects of facilities and materials, but the Japan law does not. Finally, for the educational role, the Korean libraries have reading and information literacy training that are parts of school curriculum, while the Japan libraries have only a library use guidance program and does not include reading education.

  • I will introduce robotics education, Novel Engineering, STOMP have hosted in CEEO at Tufts University. CEEO is a leading center for Robotics Education in all over the USA. So far lots of universities and centers have adopted these programs. CEEO have hosted many workshops for students and teachers every summer vacation. And Simple Robotics course is required for every Engineering department freshmen. Novel Engineering(NE) is not familiar to us. I think that NE will be a good tool for integrating reading literacy and engineering. When teachers design a engineering class, members of STOMP help teachers achieve the goals of class. Software Education has been widely spreaded for last several years in South Korea. If our country adopts these programs government-widely. I think that It will be able to contribute to foster SW-talented persons.

Age at first marriage (${\chi}^2=18.481$, p<.001), religions (${\chi}^2=11.165$, p=.011), languages (${\chi}^2=35.586$, p<.001), the experience of children death (${\chi}^2=16.507$, p<.001), antenatal care over 4 times (${\chi}^2=15.315$, p<.001), postnatal care (${\chi}^2=15.558$, p<.001) is significantly different from literacy level. Among illiterate women group, who are protestant (OR=.330), using Lingala (OR=.128), took elementary education (OR=.223) and farmer (OR=.040), used less postnatal care.
