Liquid-phase methanol synthesis via methyl formate using coal-derived syngas was carried out in a bench-scale(diameter 173 mm and dispersion height 1200 mm) slurry bubble column reactor(SBCR) Under the condition of $180^{\circ}$. 61 atm, 30 L/min, $H_{2}$/CO=2 and a slurry mixture of 2 kg of copper chromite and 0.5 kg of $KOCH_{3}$ suspended in 14 L of methanol, the per pass conversions of syngas is 6 %, maximum concentration of methyl formate 3.088 mol% and maximum synthesis, rate of methanol 0.8 gmole/kg ${\cdot}$ hr. It is a significant evidence that copper chromite powder as heterogeneous catalyst didn't active for the hydrogenolysis of methyl formate to methanol, resulting copper chromite powder was not efficiently suspended in a slurry mixture. To enhance the hydrogenolysis of methyl formate in liquid-phase methanol synthesis process, the designed SBCR have need to use the higher specific gravity solvent and/or decrease the catalyst particle size.
In this work, caffeine and some catechin compounds + C, EC, EGC, and EGCG were extracted from green tea by using molecular imprinted polymers (MIP) as sorbent materials in a solid-phase extraction (SPE) process known as MISPE (molecular imprinted solid-phase extraction). For synthesis of MIP, caffeine was employed as the template, MAA as the monomer, EGDMA as the crosslinker, and AIBN as the initiator. A solution of caffeine (0.2 mg/mL in methanol) was utilized in the solid extraction cartridges following loading, washing, and elution procedures with acetonitrile, methanol, and methanol-acetic acid (90/10, %v/v) as the solvents, respectively. This solid-phase extraction protocol was applied for the extraction of caffeine and some catechin compounds from green tea. A comparison was made between the results obtained with the MIP cartridges and a traditional C18 reversed-phase cartridge. It was thereupon found that the recovery of caffeine by the MIPbased sorbent used in this work was almost two and four times greater than that by a commercially available C18 material. A quantitative analysis was conducted by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) using a C18 column (5 μm, 250 × 4.6 mm) with methanol/water (40/60, %v/v) as the mobile phase at a flow rate of 0.5 mL/min.
Calcium carbonate fine powders were synthesized by blowing CO2 gas in CaO or Ca(OH)2 suspension, and the shapes of powders obtained were examined for each synthetic condition. When water was used as a solvent, ultrafine calcite powders with the average size of∼0.03$\mu\textrm{m}$ were obtained. When synthesized using methanol as a solvent, amorphous phase and spherical vaterite phase were obtained by suction filtering and non-filtering, respectively. Reaction did not occured in ethanol medium, but spherical vaterite phase was obtained by adding ethylene glycol in ethanol.
The aim of this study is to provide vapor-liquid equilibrium (VLE) information for the study of process which directly synthesize dimethyl carbonate (DMC) from $CO_2$. For this study we collected some necessary VLE systems data of Methanol-Water, Methanol-DMC, $CO_2$-DMC, $CO_2$-Methanol, $CO_2$-Methanol, and performed VLE calculation with Peng-Robinson equation of state, Wong-Sandler mixing rules that widely used in chemical industry. These calculation results relatively agreed with VLE data well. Optimized Parameters of EoS given through this calculation will be used as some valuable information for fundamental study, process development and process optimization of DMC direct synthesis.

Zn wires have been electrically exploded in methanol or distilled water using the pulsed power technologies. The nanopowders produced by the explosions have been observed by using SEM and TEM, and analyzed its phase by using EDS and XRD. The nanopowders produced in distilled water showed ZnO phase only. On the other hands, the nanopowder produced in methanol showed mixed phases with Zn and ZnO. The HR-TEM images of the nanopowders produced in methanol showed that the some particles have been coated with carbon like materials. It is considered that the carbon coatings could be depended on the positions of the particles during the plasma state formed by explosion.

Polycrystalline powder of vanadium-doped forsterite (Vδ $Mg_2SiO_4$) was synthesized by the $H_2O_2$-assisted sol-gel method. The vanadium dopant, which was added as VO$(OMe)_3$ in methanol, went through several redox reactions as the sol-gel reaction proceeded. Upon adding VO$(OMe)_3$ to a mixture of $Mg(OMe)_2$ and Si$(OEt)_4$ in methanol, V(V) reduced to V(IV). As hydrolysis reaction proceeded, the V(IV) oxidized all back to V(V). Apparently, some of the V(V) reduced to V(IV) during subsequent gelation by condensation reaction. The V(IV) remained even after heat treatment of the gel in highly oxidizing atmosphere. The crystallization of the xerogel around 880 ℃ readily produced single phase forsterite without any minor phase. Using the polycrystalline powder as feeding stock, single crystals of vanadium-doped forsterite were grown by the floating zone method in oxidizing or reducing atmosphere. The doping was limited in low level because of the high partitioning of the vanadium in liquid phase during melting. The greenish single crystal absorbed visible light of 700∼1100 nm. But, no emission was obtained in near infrared range.
Erinacine which is produced from Hericium erinaceus mycelia is known to have a stimulating activity of nerve growth factor(NGF) synthesis. Thus, this work was concentrated on the maximum production of Hericium erinaceus mycelia. In order to maximize cell growth, the cultivation was performed with varying the agitation rate and applying the additional medium. As the results, the mycelium concentration was 24.2g/L.

Here, we present a facile method to synthesize Pt nanoparticles (NPs) and graphene composite materials (Pt/G) via vacuum filtration. Anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) templates were used to separate Pt/G composite and liquid phase. This method can be used to easily tune the mass ratio of Pt NPs and graphene. Pt NPs, graphene, and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) as building blocks were characterized by a variety of techniques such as scanning electron microscopy, UV-Vis spectroscopy, and Raman spectroscopy. We compared the electrocatalytic activities of Pt/G with Pt NP and CNT films (Pt/CNT) by cyclic voltammetry (CV), CO oxidation, and methanol oxidation. Pt/G was much more stable than pure Pt films. Also, Pt/G had better electrochemical activity, CO tolerance and methanol oxidation than Pt/CNT loaded with the same amount of Pt NPs due to the better dispersion of Pt NPs on graphene flakes without aggregation. We further synthesized Au@Pt disk/G and Pt nanorods/G to determine if our synthetic method can be applied to other NP shapes such as nanodisks and nanorods, for further electrocatalysis studies.
Direct methanol fuel cells (DMFCs) have been attracting attention as energy conversion devices that can directly supply methanol liquid fuel without a fuel reforming process. The commercial polymer electrolyte membranes (PEMs) currently applied to DMFC are perfluorosulfonic acid ionomer-based PEMs, which exhibit high proton conductivity and physicochemical stability during the operation. However, problems such as high methanol permeability and environmental pollutants generated during decomposition require the development of PEMs for DMFCs using novel ionomers. Recently, studies have been reported to develop PEMs using hydrocarbon-based ionomers that exhibit low fuel permeability and high physicochemical stability. This review introduces the following studies on hydrocarbon-based PEMs for DMFC applications: 1) synthesis of grafting copolymers that exhibit distinct hydrophilic/hydrophobic phase-separated structure to improve both proton conductivity and methanol selectivity, 2) introduction of cross-linked structure during PEM fabrication to reduce the methanol permeability and improve dimensional stability, and 3) incorporation of organic/inorganic composites or reinforcing substrates to develop reinforced composite membranes showing improved PEM performances and durability.
The synthesis of dimethyl carbonate by liquid phase oxidative carbonylation of methanol was studied under batch reaction system. Reaction factors such as effect on various metals, anion containing in copper catalyst, temperature, carbon monoxide and oxygen molar ratio and copper content were investigated. In particular $CuCl_2{\cdot}2H_2O$ showed the excellent of the methanol conversion 65.2%, DMC selectivity 96.6% reaction condition under 1.0 g, $150^{\circ}C$, MeOH/CO/$O_2$=0.2/0.215/0.05 (molar ratio). $CuCl_2$ led to corrosion of the reactor. Thus, a new catalyst system using supports was investigated to resolve these corrosion problem. Influence on various supports were examined and copper catalyst supported on zeolite Y showed the most excellent activity on the formation of dimethyl carbonate. The amount of Fe dissolved during the reaction using ICP-AES (Inductively Coupled Plasma-Atomic Emission Spectrometer) was compared with catalysts, calcined Cu/zeolite Y showed the lower value below 5% than $CuCl_2-2H_2O$.
