The purpose of this paper is to study the influence of operating condition and ejector geometries on the hydrodynamics and on the mass transfer characteristic of ejector. The CFD results were validated with available experimental data. Flow field analyses and predictions of ejector performance were also carried out. Variation on the operating conditions was made by varying the gas-liquid flow rate ratio in the range of 0.2 to 1.2. The ejector configuration was also varied on the length to diameter ratio of mixing tube ($L_M/D_M$) in the range of 4 to 10. CFD studies show that at $L_M/D_M$ 5.5, the volumetric mass transfer coefficient increases with respect to gas flow rates. Meanwhile, at $L_M/D_M$ 4, the plot of volumetric mass transfer coefficient to gas-liquid flow rates ratio reach maximum at gas-liquid flow rates ratio of 0.6. This study also shows that volumetric mass transfer coefficient decrease with respect to the increase of mixing tube length.

The present study experimentally investigates the concentration distribution of liquid and vapor phase with different injection timings in the in-cylinder flow field of a optically accessible engine. The conventional MPI, DOHC engine was modified into DI gasoline engine. The images of liquid and vapor phases in the motoring engine were captured by using exciplex fluorescence method. Dopants used in this study were 2% fluorobenzene and 9% DEMA(diethyl-methyl-amino) in 89% solution of hexane by volume respectively. Two dimensional spray fluorescence images of liquid and vapor phases were acquired to analyze spray behaviors and fuel distribution in the in-cylinder flow field. Measurements were carried out fur four different injection timings, namely BTDC 270$^{\circ}$, 180$^{\circ}$, 90$^{\circ}$, and 50$^{\circ}$. Experimental results indicate that behaviors and distribution of vapor phase were largely affected by in-cylinder tumble flow, and mixture formation process was also greatly affected by in-cylinder flow at early injection mode and by ambient pressure at late injection mode.

Experimental investigation was made to study the mechanism of fluid and thermal oscillation phenomena of surface-tension driven flow in a cylindrical liquid column heated from above which is the low-gravity floating zone simulated on earth. Hexadecane, octadecane, silicon oil (10cs), FC-40 and water are used as the test liquids. The onset of the oscillatory thermocapillary convection appears when Marangoni number exceeds its criteria value and is found to be due to the coupling among velocity and temperature field with the free surface deformation. The frequency of temperature oscillation decreases with increasing aspect ratio for a given diameter and Marangoni number and the oscillation level increases with Marangoni number. The flow pattern in the liquid column appears either as symmetric or asymmetric 3-D flow due to the oscillatory flow in the azimuthal direction. The free surface deformation also occurs either as symmetric or asymmetric mode and its frequency is consistent with those of flow and temperature oscillations. The amplitude of surface deformation also increases with Marangoni number.
In this paper, some numerical methods recently developed for gas-liquid two-phase flows are reviewed. And then, a preconditioning method to solve cavitating flow by the author is introduced. This method employs a finite-difference Runge-Kutta method combined with MUSCL TVD scheme, and a homogeneous equilibrium cavitation model. So that it permits to treat simply the whole gas-liquid two-phase flow field including wave propagation, large density changes and incompressible flow characteristic at low Mach number. Finally, numerical results such as detailed observations of the unsteady cavity flows, a sheet cavitation break-off phenomena and some data related to performance characteristics of hydrofoils are shown.

In a closed square cavity filled with a liquid, a cooled the upper horizontal wail and a heated the lower horizontal wall, the flow isn't generated under the ground-based condition when Rayleigh number is lower than 1700. In such case the flow phenomena near an air bubble under a cooled horizontal wall were investigated. The temperature and the flow fields were studied by using the Thermo-sensitive Liquid-Crystal and the image processing. The qualitative analysis for the temperature and the flow fields were carried out by applying the image processing technique to the original data. Injecting bubble at the center point of upper cooled wall, the symmetry shape of two vortexes near an air bubble was observed. The bubble size increased, the size of velocity and the magnitude of velocity increased. In spite of elapsed time, a pair of two vortexes was the unique and steady-state flow in a square cavity and wasn't induce to the other flow in the surround region.
Deeply understanding the phase change of thin liquid sodium film inside wick pore is very important for further studying high-temperature sodium heat pipe's heat transfer. For the first time, the evaporation and condensation of thin liquid sodium film are investigated by the Lennard-Jones potential of molecular dynamics. Based on the startup and normal operation of the sodium heat pipe, three different cases are simulated. First, the equilibrium is achieved and the Mass Accommodation Coefficients of the three cases are 0.3886, 0.2119, 0.2615 respectively. Secondly, the non-equilibrium is built. The change of liquid film thickness, the number of gas atoms, the net evaporation flux (Jnet), the heat transfer coefficient (h) at the liquid-gas interface are acquired. Results indicate that the magnitude of the Jnet and the h increase with the basic equilibrium temperature. In 520-600 K (the startup of the heat pipe), the h has approached 5-6 W m-2 K-1 while liquid film thickness is in 11-13 nm. The fact shows that during the initial startup of the sodium heat pipe, the thermal resistance at the liquid-gas interface can't be negligible. This work is the complement and extension for macroscopic investigation of heat transfer inside sodium heat pipe. It can provide a reference for further numerical simulation and optimal design of the sodium heat pipe in the future.

Present studies of these experiments was conducted to using water, over a range of cross-flow velocities from 42 to 136 m/s, with injection frequencies from 35.7 to 166.2 Hz. In cross-flow field, main parameters of liquid jet for secondary breakup were cross-flow drag rather than pressure pulse frequency. As oscillation of the periodic pressure, liquid jet was moved up and down. Also, a bulk of liquid jet puff was detected at upper field of liquid surface. Because of pressure pulsation frequency, an inclination of SMD for the structured layer was evanescent. Cross-sectional characteristics of SMD at downstream area were non-structured distributions. The tendency of volume flux value for various frequency of pressure pulse was same distribution. And volume flux was decreased when the frequency of pressure pulse increasing.

The spray characteristics of liquid jet minted in subsonic cross-flow were investigated numerically and experimentally. The behaviors of column, penetration and breakup of plain liquid jet in non-swirling cross-flow of air have been studied. Numerical and physical models are based on a modified KIVAII code. The primary atomization is represented by a wave model based on the KH(Kelvin-Helmholtz) instability that is generated by a high interface relative velocity between the liquid and gas flows. CCD camera has been utilized in oder to capture the spray trajectory. The nozzle diameter was 0.5 mm and its L/D ratios were between 1 and 5. Numerical and experimental results indicate that the breakup point is delayed by increasing gas momentum ratio, the penetration decreases by increasing Weber number and the turbulent or nonturbulent liquid jet is obtained at different L/D ratio.

The preliminary design of a deep-sea injection system for carbon dioxide ocean sequestration is performed. Common functional requirements for a deep-sea injection system of mid-depth type and lake type are determined, Liquid transport system, liquid storage system and liquid injection system are conceptually determined for the functional requirements. For liquid injection system, the control of flow rate and temperature of liquid $CO_2$ in the injection pipe is needed in the view of internal flow. The function of depressing VIV(Vortex Induced Vibration) is also required in the view of dynamic stability of the injection pipe. A case study is performed for $CO_2$ sequestration capacity of 10 million tons per year. In this study, the total number of injection ships, the flow rate of liquid $CO_2$ and the configuration of a injection pipe are designed. The static structural analysis of the injection pipe is also performed. Finally the preliminary design of a deep-sea injection system is proposed.
In this research, internal-mixing twin-fluid atomizer using sonic energy is designed and manufactured. We are trying to intimate high efficiency twin-fluid atomizer to obtain good liquid atomization in the low pressure region. Define of geometric form of atomizer, characteristics of spray is influenced by position, depth and height variation of cavity resonator, variation of sound intensity and resonant sound frequency with liquid flow rate. The liquid atomization is promoted by multi-stage disintegration of mixing flow of gas with liquid and the optimum condition of position and depth of cavity resonator according to sonic energy is obtained from the condition at a=2.5mm and L=2mm. The velocity distribution of droplets shows negative value due to recirculation region at the center of axial, and as the radial direction distance is far, the velocity distribution of droplets decrease slowly after having a maximum value. However velocity and SMD show nearly uniform distribution at the down stream and as result compared to Nukiyama and Tanasawa's equation. atomization of mixing flow with air and liquid dispersing from the outlet of the nozzle is promoted by the effect of collision at the cavity resonator.
