An interface always appears when a repair is applied to an aged infrastructure system for repair. These repaired structures have the high chance to fail along the interface because of the stress concentration/discontinuity along the interface. So, mechanical properties of the interface have much influence on the behavior of repaired structure systems. In this paper, numerical tool that can predict effectively the interfacial fracture behavior is developed using axial deformation link elements, and this numerical technique is applied to the interfacial failure behavior. The results coincide with the ultimate strength and failure profile on the interfacial behavior of carbon fiber sheets for strengthening with epoxy adhesion. Thus, the mechanical behavior of the interface up to failure can be predicted using numerical technique with the proposed axial deformation link elements.
In this study, a numerical analysis that can effectively predict the effect of strengthening of cracked flexural members is developed using axial deformation link elements. Concrete and interface between concrete and repair material are considered as quasi-brittle material. Reinforcing bars and reinforcing steel plates are assumed to perform as elasto-plastic materials. Unloading behavior of axial deformation link element is implemented. In the developed numerical model, a flexural member is intentionally cracked by pre-loading, then, the cracked member is repaired using extra elements, and reloaded. The results from analysis of repaired flexural members agrees well with available experiment results. Also, it was shown that the effect of strengthening and the change of failure mode with respect to the time for strengthening and thickness of repair materials. Based on the results, it was determined that the developed numerical model has a good agreement for determining failure modes and effect of strengthening in cracked flexural members. By utilizing the developed numerical analysis, the time and dimension of external strengthening in an existing cracked flexural member with predition of failure mechanism can be determined.
This paper describes the Petri Net(PN) model for reliability analysis of fault-tolerant dual Ethernet which Is applied in Naval Combat System. The network for Naval Combat System performs failure detection and auto path recovery by handling redundant path in case of temporary link failure. After studying the behavior of this kind of network, the reliability analysis model is proposed using stochastic Petri Net and continuous-time Markov chains. Finally, the numerical result is analyzed according to changing the failure rate and the recover rate of link.
In this study, we design an applicable model enabling internet protocol television (IPTV) service providers to use a virtual network (VN) for IPTV service delivery. The model addresses the guaranteed service delivery, cost effectiveness, flexible control, and scalable network infrastructure limitations of backbone or IP overlay-based content networks. There are two major challenges involved in this research: i) The design of an efficient, cost effective, and reliable virtual network topology (VNT) for IPTV service delivery and the handling of a VN allocation failure by infrastructure providers (InPs) and ii) the proper approach to reduce the cost of VNT recontruction and reallocation caused by VNT allocation failure. Therefore, in this study, we design a more reliable virtual network topology for solving a single virtual node, virtual link, or video server failure. We develop a novel optimization objective and an efficient VN construction algorithm for building the proposed topology. In addition, we address the VN allocation failure problem by proposing VNT decomposition and reconstruction algorithms. Various simulations are conducted to verify the effectiveness of the proposed VNT, as well as that of the associated construction, decomposition, and reconstruction algorithms in terms of reliability and efficiency. The simulation results are compared with the findings of existing works, and an improvement in performance is observed.
High speed all optical network is a viable option to satisfy the exponential growth of internet usage in the recent years. Optical networks offer very high bit rates and, by employing technologies like internet protocol over wavelength division multiplexing(IP-over-WDM), these high bit rates can be effectively utilized. However, failure of a network component, carrying such high speed data traffic can result in enormous loss of data in a few seconds and persistence of a failure can severely degrade the performance of the entire network. Designing IP-over-WDM networks, which can withstand failures, has been subject of considerable interest in the research community recently. Most of the research is focused on the failure of optical links in the network. This paper addresses the problem of designing IP-over-WDM networks that do not suffer service degradation in case of a single link failure. The paper proposes an approach based on the framework provided by a recent paper by M. Kurant and P. Thiran. The proposed approach can be used to design large survivable IP-over-WDM networks.
Due to low bandwidth and high error rate, the wireless Link is more frequent disconnected than the wired link. Link failure in the method invocation often appears as a failed method invocation. Framework of RMI is adjusted with queuing of method call. RMI's performance can be enhanced without breaking compatibility with Java RMI specification.
The airborne backbone network(ABN) provides communication transport services between airborne nodes, surface nodes and satellite nodes. Such ABN is generally constructed with wide-body and high-capacity planes such as AWACS, which can fly long-term along pre-defined flight paths. In this paper, we propose an efficient method to improve routing performances by reconfiguring routing path before link failure based on the prediction of link state with the information of pre-defined backbone nodes' trajectories. Since the proposed method does not need additional information exchange between airborne nodes in order to acknowledge the link failure, it can be effectively used for airborne backbone network with limited bandwidths.
We have analyzed the reliability of failure models in circuit-switched networks. These models are grid topology circuit-switched networks, and each node transmits a packet to a destination node using a Flooding routing method. We have assumed that the failure of each link and node is independent. We have considered two method to analyze reliability in these models : The Karnaugh Map method and joint probability method. In this two method, we have analyzed the reliability in a small grid topology circuit switched network by a joint probability method, and comared analytic results with simulated ones. For a large grid enormous. So, we have evaluated the reliability of the network by computer simulation techniques. As results, we have found that the analytic results are very close to simulated ones in a small grid topology circuit switched network. And, we have found that network reliability decreases exponentially, according to increment of link or node failure, and network reliability is almost linearly decreased according to increment of the number of links, by which call has passed. Finally, we have found an interesting result that nodes in a center of the network are superior to the other nodes from the reliability point of view.
