The 2-dimensional silicon vertical Hall devices, which are sensitive to X,Y components of the magnetic field parallel to the surface of the chip, are fabricated using a modified bipolar process. It consists of the thin p-layer at Si-$SiO_2$ interface and n-epi layer to improve the sensitivity and influence of interface effect. Experimental samples are a sensor type K with and type J without $p^+$ isolation dam adjacent to the center current electrode. The results for both type show a more high sensitivity than the former's 2-dimensional vertical Hall devices and a good linearity. The measured non-linearity is about 0.8%. The sensitivity of type J and type K are about 66 V/AT and 200 V/AT, respectively. This sensor's behavior can be explained by the similar J-FET model.

The good performance of a vortex shedder is defined by strong and stable vortex generated under the condition of most linearity in Strouhal number and low power loss. In this paper, the flow past a bluff body of circular cylinder with a slit normal to the flow has been analyzed focusing on drag coefficient, linearity of Strouhal number and flow resistance (K-factor). The ANSYS/FLUENT package is used for flow simulation and the integration method of computational code to iSIGHT platform is employed for automated design cycle. This study results the design with (0.20~0.267) blockage ratio and 0.10 slit ratio as the best shedder for vortex flowmeter and this results are in well agreement with the experiment. As the combination of GAMBIT, FLUENT, and iSIGHT substitutes the design parameters automatically according to the input data, this method designs effectively the vortex shedder with less design cycle time and low manufacturing cost eliminating the human intervention bottleneck.

This study was conducted to characterize groundwater and river-water fluctuations at a riverbank filtration site in Daesan-myeon adjacent to the Nakdong River, using time series analysis. Water levels from six observation wells from January 2003 to October 2003 were measured. The autocorrelation analysis indicates that the wells are divided into three groups: group 1 represents strong linearity and memory, group 2 intermediate linearity and memory, and group 3 weak linearity and memory. The analysis indicates that groundwater levels in different monitoring wells vary in response to river-water levels, groundwater withdrawal and seasonal rainfall. Cross-correlation was also divided into three groups. Group 1 shows the highest cross-correlation function (0.49 - 0.54) for a lag time of 0 hours, group 2 intermediate cross-correlation function (0.34 - 0.45), and group 3 the lowest cross-correlation function (0.23 - 0.25). Different cross-correlation functions among the 3 groups are interpreted as an effect of tile distance from the river to the pumping wells.

In general, NIR reflectance spectra (whether recorded using log(1/R) or the Kubelka-Munk function) are not linear functions of the concentration of the absorbers which we are measuring. There are several causes for this non-linearity, the most commonly cited one being front surface reflection. However, non-linearity also arises from the effects of particle size, sample thickness, void fraction, and experimental arrangement. In this talk, we will attempt to isolate the effects of the various causes, and show the effects of each, using both theoretical calculations and actual data. The listener should then be able to assess where we stand in our quest to produce “linear” data through pre-processing and/or alternate collection schemes.
In this paper, we deal with a characterization of the posets with the property that every poset isometry of $\mathbb{F}^n_q$ fixing the origin is a linear map. We say such a poset to be admitting the linearity of isometries. We show that a poset P admits the linearity of isometries over $\mathbb{F}^n_q$ if and only if P is a disjoint sum of chains of cardinality 2 or 1 when q = 2, or P is an anti-chain otherwise.
In case of the limitation of Deep RIE fabrication far Micro Gas Turbine, bearing aspect ratio is limited in very small value. The characteristics such as pressure distribution, load capacity and non-linearity of a short bearing of L/D=0.083 and a conventional bearing of L/D=1.0 with coupled boundary effects are investigated for Micro Gas Turbine bearings. The coupled effect was analyzed by mass conservation at coupled end area. The results, increasing load capacity and non-linearity due to the coupled effect of thrust and journal bearing, are obtained and the selection of journal bearing type is discussed.

Most open magnetic resonance imaging systems have used the planar gradient coils whose inductances were minimized through the magnetic energy minimization procedure in the spatial frequency domain. Though the planar gradient coils have smaller inductance than conventional gradient coils, the planar gradient coils often suffer from their poor magnetic field linearity. Scaling the spatial frequencies of the current density function designed by the magnetic energy minimization, magnetic field linearity of the planar gradient coils can be greatly improved with small sacrifice of gradient coil inductance. We have found that the figure of merit of the planar gradient coils, defined by the gradient strength divided by the linearity error and the inductance, can be improved by proposed technique.

This paper describes fabrication and characteristics of ceramic pressure sensor for working at high temperature. The proposed pressure sensor consists of a Ta-N thin-film, patterned on a Wheatstone bridge configuration, sputter deposited onto thermally oxidized Si membranes with an aluminium interconnection layer. The fabricated pressure sensor presents a low temperature coefficient of resistance, high sensitivity, low non-linearity and excellent temperature stability The sensitivity is 1.097∼1.21 mV/V$.$kgf/$\textrm{cm}^2$ in the temperature range of 25∼200$^{\circ}C$ and the maximum non-linearity is 0.43 %FS.

The response characteristics of AE (acoustic emission) sensors with a coupled vibration mode and a non-coupled vibration mode were investigated according to PD(partial discharge) quantities in XLPE (cross linked polyethylene) sheets and craft papers immersed in insulating oil. The response voltages of a coupled vibration mode AE sensor were linearly proportional to the PD quantities up to 1,000 pC in XLPE sheets, while a non-coupled vibration mode AE sensor did not show the similar linearity. In case of a test of craft papers immersed in insulating oil, a linearity between response voltages and PD quantities was observed up to 550 pC, but after that, similar linearity between response voltage of any types of AE sensor and PD quantities was not shown.

The material properties of membrane for stratospheric airship is experimentally investigated. Mechanical tensile properties of the membrane material at room, high and low temperature are measured using instron with thermal chamber. Experimentaly, material non-linearity is observed at room and high temperature. In order to simulate material non-linearity caused by the uniaxial extension curve of a woven fabric, the nonlinear hyperelastic problem is considered with finite clement program of ABAQS. Numerical results are compared with experimental results.
