In this study, nonlinear static and dynamic aeroelastic analyses for a high-aspect-ratio wing have been performed. To achieve these aims, the transonic small disturbance (TSD) theory for the aerodynamic analysis and the large deflection beam theory considering a geometrical nonlinearity for the structural analysis are applied, respectively. For the coupling between fluid and structure, the transformation of a displacement from the structural mesh to the aerodynamic grid is performed by a shape function which is used for the finite element and the inverse transformation of force by work equivalent load method. To validate the current method, the present analysis results of a high-aspect-ratio wing are compared with the experimental results. Static deformations in the vertical and torsional directions caused by an angle of attack and gravity loading are compared with experimental results. Also, static and dynamic aeroelastic characteristics are investigated. The comparisons of the flutter speed and frequency between a linear and nonlinear analysis are presented.
The extensive use of honeycomb sandwich structures has led to the need to understand and analyze their low velocity impact response. Commercially available finite element software provides a possible analysis tool for this type of problem, but the validity of their material properties models for honeycomb materials must be investigated. Three different problems that focus on the effect of differences in honeycomb material properties on static and dynamic response are presented and discussed. The first problem considered is a linear elastic static analysis of honeycomb sandwich beams. The second is a nonlinear elastic-plastic analysis of a circular honeycomb sandwich plate. The final problem is a dynamic analysis of circular honeycomb sandwich plates impacted by low velocity projectiles. Results are obtained using the ABAQUS final element code and compared against experimental results. The comparison indicates that currently available material properties models for honeycomb materials can be used to obtain a good approximation of the behavior of honeycomb sandwich structures under static and dynamic loading conditions.

This paper presents a comparison among three types of approaches to an ARC (Active Roll Control) with an AARB(Active Anti-Roll Bar) for a vehicle system. Lateral acceleration and road profile are considered as disturbance. The ARC is designed with an LQ SOF (Linear Quadratic Static Output Feedback) control, $H_{\infty}$ control and SMC (Sliding Mode Control). These approaches are compared in terms of rollover prevention and ride comfort. For comparison, Bode plot analysis based on linear model and frequency response analysis based on CarSim simulation are performed.
The performance evaluation of reinforcement concrete structure is carried out as a function of the following performance influencing factors: (1) the strength of concrete, (2) longitudinal reinforcement, (3) transverse reinforcement, (4) aspect ratio, and (5) axial force. With various values of the five parameters, eigenvalue analysis and non-linear static analysis were performed to investigate the structural yield displacement, yield basis shear force, and static performance of ductility ratio. In addition, the performance evaluation is carried out according to the modified capacity spectrum method (FEMA-440) using the results of non-linear static analysis, and the effect of each parameter on performance point is analyzed. Based on the result of eigenvalue analysis and non-linear static analysis indicates, that the natural period and the ductility ratio are affected more by the structural properties than the material properties. In case of the analysis of the criterion of performance points, the effect of section shape is one of the important factors together with natural period and ductility ratio.

A moving-coil-type linear motor, designed and fabricated, is consisted of the NdFeB permanent magnets with high specific energy as the stator, a coil-wrapped nonmagnetic hollow rectangular structure and an iron core as a pathway for magnetic flux. The interaction between permanent magmet and armature fie1d, so called "push/pull effect", is to shift the airgap flux density variation due to the magnet alone by a certain amount. Thrust therefore is shift downward or upward. The push/pull effect was presented through the FEM analysis and the static tests. We compared the thrust obtained through the FEM analysis with the static tests. Finally, we present the linearity and correction coefficients of the thrust in consideration of the push/pull effects.l effects.

This paper investigates the static and dynamic behaviors of imperfect single walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) modeled as a beam structure by using energy-equivalent model (EEM), for the first time. Based on EEM Young's modulus and Poisson's ratio for zigzag (n, 0), and armchair (n, n) carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are presented as functions of orientation and force constants. Nonlinear Euler-Bernoulli assumptions are proposed considering mid-plane stretching to exhibit a large deformation and a small strain. To simulate the interaction of CNTs with the surrounding elastic medium, nonlinear elastic foundation with cubic nonlinearity and shearing layer are employed. The equation governed the motion of curved CNTs is a nonlinear integropartial-differential equation. It is derived in terms of only the lateral displacement. The nonlinear integro-differential equation that governs the buckling of CNT is numerically solved using the differential integral quadrature method (DIQM) and Newton's method. The linear vibration problem around the static configurations is discretized using DIQM and then is solved as a linear eigenvalue problem. Numerical results are depicted to illustrate the influence of chirality angle and imperfection amplitude on static response, buckling load and dynamic behaviors of armchair and zigzag CNTs. Both, clamped-clamped (C-C) and simply supported (SS-SS) boundary conditions are examined. This model is helpful especially in mechanical design of NEMS manufactured from CNTs.
Oseltamivir, also known as Tamifu, is an inhibitor of neuraminidase protein which plays an essential role in proliferation and replication of influenza virus. Binding to the active site of neuraminidase, the oseltamivir prevents the protein from enzyme reaction. Conformational change of the protein(neuraminidase) should be accompanied by the enzyme reaction, but the drug inhibits the protein to deform. In this study, we examine the influence of oseltamivir on protein's conformational change in the structural and mechanical point of view. Finite element analysis of the protein can be an useful approach to investigate the influence of oseltamivir on the deformation of a protein. We suggest the finite element based protein model, and then perform the linear static analysis with the displacement loading condition based on the first two largest motion which can be obtained from the normal mode analysis. The results show that it takes more energy to change shape of the protein with an oseltamivir attached than the protein without an oseltamivir.
Among all the natural disasters, earthquakes are the most destructive calamities since they cause a plenty of injuries and economic losses leaving behind a series of signs of panic. The present study highlights the moment-curvature relationships for the structural elements such as beam and column elements and Non-Linear Static Pushover Analysis of RC frame structures since it is a very simplified procedure of non-linear static analysis. The highly popular model namely Mander's model and Kent and Park model are considered and then, seismic risk evaluation of RC building has been conducted using SAP 2000 version 17 treating uncertainty in strength as a parameter. From the obtained capacity and demand curves, the performance level of the structure has been defined. The seismic fragility curves were developed for the variations in the material strength and damage state threshold are calculated. Also the comparison of experimental and analytical results has been conducted.
This study is connected with evaluation of the progressive collapse resisting capacity for sustainable RC super tall building design. As the progressive collapse is not considered in current design codes in Korea, differences between linear static and dynamic analysis based on the GSA guidelines was analyzed for better evaluation, and the analysis model of flat plate system was determined. Finally, the progressive collapse resisting capacity was evaluated for structural system of super tall building. According to this study, the results by linear dynamic analysis were underestimated than the results by linear static analysis. Thus, the dynamic coefficient value of 2 provides conservative approach. The Effective Beam Width's model, currently used in field, is useful for the analysis about lateral force, but this model does not consider the effect of load redistribution by the slab. Hence, finite element analysis considering slab element will be needed for progressive collapse resisting capacity of the flat plate system. Finally, analysis model of 80-story building designed based on KBC(Korea Building Code) shows the weakness against progressive collapse because the DCR value is over 2. Thus, the countermeasure for alternative loading path such as installment of spandrel beam and reinforcements around slab is required to prevent the progressive collapse.
Based on link-model, we conducted a static analysis and computation of a three-span suspended cable structure in the present paper, and obtained the static configuration and tension distribution of the cable. Using the link and beam model based on finite element method, we analyzed the vibration modal of three-span suspended cable structure, and compared with the results obtained from ANSYS using link and beam element. The vibration modals of shallow sagging inclined cables calculated from proposed method agrees well with ANSYS results, which validates the proposed method. As a result, the influence of bend stiffness on in-plane natural frequencies is much greater than that on out-of-plane natural frequencies of inclined cables.
