Noise predictive maximum likelihood(NPML) detector embeds noise prediction/whitening process in branch metric calculation of Viterbi detector and improves the reliability of branch metric computation. Therefore, PRML detector with a noise predictor achieves some performance improvement and has an advantage of low complexity. This thesis random sequences are applied to linear channel. In perpendicular magnetic recording density KP=2.5, NP(121)ML and NP(1221)ML detection system which is based on a noise predictive PR-equalized signal are evaluated by the Performance through a computing simulation. Therefore, NPML systems are implemented and are verified by VHDL.
This paper proposes a new method of Model Predictive Control (MPC) of nonlinear process by us-ing the measured Volterra kernels as the nonlinear model. A nonlinear dynamical process is usually de-scribed as Volterra kernel representation, In the authors' method, a pseudo-random M-sequence is ar plied to the nonlinear process, and its output is measured. Taking the crosscorrelation between the input and output, we obtain the Volterra kernels up to 3rd order which represent the nonlinear characteristics of the process. By using the measured Volterra kernels, we can construct the nonlinear model for MPC. In applying Model Predictive Control to a nonlinear process, the most important thing is, in general, what kind of nonlinear model should be used. The authors used the measured Volterra kernels of up to 3rd order as the process model. The authors have carried out computer simulations and compared the simulation results for the linear model, the nonlinear model up to 2nd Volterra kernel, and the nonlinear model up to 3rd order Vol-terra kernel. The results of computer simulation show that the use of Valterra kernels of up to 3rd order is most effective for Model Predictive Control of nonlinear dynamical processes.

In this paper, a fuzzy generalized predictive control (FGPC) for non-linear plants is proposed. In the proposed method, the receding horizon control is applied to the control part, while fuzzy systems are used for the predictor part. It is suggested that the fuzzy predictor is time-varying affine with respect to input variables for easy computation of control inputs. Since the receding horizon control can be obtained only with a predictor instead of a plant model, the fuzzy predictor is obtained directly from input-output data without identifying a plant model. A parameter estimation algorithm is used for identifying the fuzzy predictor. The control inputs of the FGPC are computed by minimizing a receding horizon cost function with predicted plant outputs. The proposed controller has a similar architecture to the generalized predictive control (GPC) except for the predictor synthesis method, and thus may possess inherent good properties of the GPC. Computer simulations show that the performance of the FGPC is satisfactory.
The Finite Control Set-Model Predictive Controller (FCS-MPC) for quasi Z-Source Inverters (qZSIs) is designed to reduce the number of sensors by proposing a current observer for the inductor current. Unlike the traditional FCS-MPC algorithm, the proposed model removes the inductor current sensor and observes the inductor current value based on the deposited prior optimized state as well as the capacitor voltage during this state. The proposed observer has been validated versus a typical MPC. Then, a comparative study between the proposed Modified Finite Control Set-Model Predictive Controller (MFCS-MPC) and a linear PID controller is provided under the same operating conditions. This study demonstrates that the dynamic response of the control objectives by MFCS-MPC is faster than that of the PID. On the other hand, the PID controller has a lower Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) when compared to the MFCS-MPC at the same average switching. Experimental results validate both methods using a DSP F28335.
This paper presents a theoretical study of a model predictive control (MPC) strategy employed in semi-active control system with magnetorheological (MR) dampers to reduce the responses of seismically excited structures. The MPC scheme is based on a prediction model of the system response to obtain the control actions by minimizing an objective function, which can compensate for the effect of time delay that occurred in real application. As an example, a 5-story building frame equipped with two 20 kN MR dampers is presented to demonstrate the performance of the proposed MPC scheme for addressing time delay and reducing the structural responses under different earthquakes, in which the predictive length l = 5 and the delayed time step d = 10, 20, 40, 60, 100 are considered. Comparison with passive-off, passive-on, and linear quadratic Gaussian (LQG) control strategy indicates that MPC scheme exhibits good control performance similar to the LQG control strategy, both have better control effectiveness than two passive control methods for most cases, and the MPC scheme used in semi-active control system show more effectiveness and robustness for addressing time delay and protecting structures during earthquakes.
The purpose of this paper is to develop a scalable grey predictive controller with unavoidable random delays. Grey prediction is proposed to solve problems caused by incorrect parameter selection and to eliminate the effects of dynamic coupling between degrees of freedom (DOFs) in nonlinear systems. To address the stability problem, this study develops an improved gray-predictive adaptive fuzzy controller, which can not only solve the implementation problem by determining the stability of the system, but also apply the Linear Matrix Inequality (LMI) law to calculate Fuzzy change parameters. Fuzzy logic controllers manipulate robotic systems to improve their control performance. The stability is proved using Lyapunov stability theorem. In this article, the authors compare different controllers and the proposed predictive controller can significantly reduce the vibration of offshore platforms while keeping the required control force within an ideal small range. This paper presents a robust fuzzy control design that uses a model-based approach to overcome the effects of modeling errors. To guarantee the asymptotic stability of large nonlinear systems with multiple lags, the stability criterion is derived from the direct Lyapunov method. Based on this criterion and a distributed control system, a set of model-based fuzzy controllers is synthesized to stabilize large-scale nonlinear systems with multiple delays.
A stabilizing control method for linear systems with model uncertainties and hard input constraints is developed, which does not require on-line optimizations. This work is motivated by the constrained robust MPC(CRMPC) approach [3] which adopts the dual mode prediction strategy (i.e. free control moves and invariant set) and minimizes a worst case performance criterion. Based on the observation that, a feasible control sequence for a particular state can be found as a linear combination of feasible sequences for other states, we suggest a stabilizing control algorithm providing sub-optimal and feasible control sequences using pre-computed optimal sequences for some canonical states. The on-line computation of the proposed method reduces to simple matrix multiplication.

To date, numerous empirical formulas have been proposed through hydraulic model experiments to predict the wave breaker index, including wave height and depth of wave breaking, due to the inherent complexity of generation mechanisms. Unfortunately, research on the characteristics of wave breaking and the prediction of the wave breaker index for gravel beaches has been limited. This study aims to forecast the wave breaker index for gravel beaches using representative linear-based machine learning techniques known for their high predictive performance in regression or classification problems across various research fields. Initially, the applicability of existing empirical formulas for wave breaker indices to gravel seabeds was assessed. Various linear-based machine learning algorithms were then employed to build prediction models, aiming to overcome the limitations of existing empirical formulas in predicting wave breaker indices for gravel seabeds. Among the developed machine learning models, a new calculation formula for easily computable wave breaker indices based on the model was proposed, demonstrating high predictive performance for wave height and depth of wave breaking on gravel beaches. The study validated the predictive capabilities of the proposed wave breaker indices through hydraulic model experiments and compared them with existing empirical formulas. Despite its simplicity as a polynomial, the newly proposed empirical formula for wave breaking indices in this study exhibited exceptional predictive performance for gravel beaches.
The interrelation between retention factors of several L-amino acids and their physico-chemical and structural properties can be determined in chromatographic research. In this paper we describe a predictor for retention factors with various properties of the L-amino acids. Eighteen L-amino acids are included in this study, and retention factors are measured experimentally by RP-HPLC. Binding energy ($E_b$), hydrophobicity (log P), molecular refractivity (MR), polarizability (${\alpha}$), total energy ($E_t$), water solubility (log S), connectivity index (${\chi}$) of different orders and Wiener index (w) are theoretically calculated. Relationships between these properties and retention factors are established, and their predictive and interpretive ability are evaluated. The equation of the relationship between retention factors and various descriptors of L-amino acids is suggested as linear and multiple linear form, and the correlation coefficients estimated are relatively higher than 0.90.

In this paper, We described the method which developed the optimal control system for air separation unit to change production rates frequently and rapidly. Control models of the process were developed from actual plant data using subspace identification method which is developed by many researchers in resent years. The model consist of a series connection of linear dynamic block and static nonlinear block (Wiener model). The model is controlled by model based predictive controller. In MPC the input is calculated by on-line optimization of a performance index based on predictions by the model, subject to possible constraints. To calculate the optimal the performance index, conditions are expressed by LMI(Linear Matrix Inequalities). In order to access at the Bailey DCS system, we applied the OPC server and developed the Client program. The OPC sever is a device which can access Bailey DCS system. The Client program is developed based on the Matlab language for easy calculation, data simulation and data logging. Using this program, we can apply the optimal input to the DCS system at real time.
