  • In this paper, we report an experimental study of a linear polarization-discriminatory state inverter made of three-layer sculpture thin film fabricated by glancing angle deposition technique. The first and third layers are quarter-wave plates of zigzag structure and the middle of them is a circular Bragg reflector of left-handed helical structure.

  • In discriminant analysis, we consider a special pattern which contains a block of missing observations. We assume that the two populations are equally likely and the costs of misclassification are equal. In this situation, we consider the bootstrap confidence intervals of the error rate in the circular models when the covariance matrices are equal and not equal.

  • This paper deals buckling behavior of laminated composite cylindrical shells subjected to combination of axial compression and torison. Linear and nonlinear finite element analysis are carried out . the influence of load type, load ratio, fiber orientation angle, stacking sequence, and intial imperfect on buckling behavior is discussed.

  • The signal can be modeled as a linear combination of its past values and present and past values of a hypothetical input to system whose output is given signal. Using this model spectral estimation problem can be reduced to estimate the ARMA parameters. This paper presents recursive modified instrumental variable algorithm which can estimate AR and MA parameters. For more accurate estimation, overdetermined modified IV algorithm is also derived. Computer simulations are presented to illustrate the above methods.

  • A nonparametric test for testing the parallelism of regression lines against ordered alternatives is proposed. The proposed test statistic is based on a linear combination of robust slope estimators. It is a modified version of the Adichie's test statistics based on scores. A snail-sample Monte Carlo study shows that the proposed test is compatible with the Adichie's test.

  • Sample skewness has not received much attention from researchers to design a control chart. In this paper, control charts based on two skewness measures are studied to control a manufacturing process. One skewness measure is the third central moment about mean, the other is the third L-moment which is a linear combination of order statistics. Since the exact sampling distributions of two skewness measures are unknown, empirical sampling distributions are studied using simulation. The sampling distributions are used to design control charts for skewness and performance of two skewness measures is compared.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest a method for identifying target markets of potential urban park users by their sociodemographic variables. Data was classified into(ⅰ) users vs. nonusers ; (ⅱ) of chosen three urban parks ; or(ⅲ) users of each urban park then analyzed by discriminant analysis. The results showed that linear combination of selected sociodemographic variables could be used for identifying target markets in some cases. In general, season and sex were the most powerful discriminant variables. But the other cases were not satisfactory. The weak points of this study due to adapting secondary data for analysis were discussed.

  • source of speech signal is actually composed of combination of periodic and aperiodic components, although it is often modeled to either one of those. In the paper an experiment which can separate periodic and aperiodic components from speech source. Linear predictive residual signal was used as a approximated vocal source the original speech to obtain the estimated aperiodic part. Iterative extrapolation method was used to compute the aperiodic part.

  • A robust test is proposed for the problem of testing the parallelism of several regression lines against ordered alternatives. The proposed test statistic is based on a linear combination of one-step pairwise GM-estimators. We compare the performance of the proposed test with that of the other tests through a Monte Carlo simulation. The results of the simulation study show that the proposed test has stable levels, good empirical powers in various circumstances, and particularly higher empirical powers under the presence of extreme outliers or leverage points.
