  • This study hydrologically re-analysed the Muskingum channel routing method to represent it as a linear combination of the linear channel model considering only the translation and the linear reservoir model considering only the storage effect. The resulting model becomes a kind of instantaneous unit hydrograph, whose parameters are identical to those of the Muskingum model. That is, the outflow occurs after the routing interval ${\Delta}t$ or concentration time $T_c$, and among the total amount of inflow, the x portion is translated by the linear channel model and the remaining (1-x) portion is routed by the linear reservoir model with the storage coefficient $K_c$. The application result of both the Muskingum channel routing method and its corresponding instantaneous unit hydrograph to an imaginary channel showed that these two models are basically identical. This result was also assured by the application to the channel flood routing to the Kumnam and Gongju Station for the discharge from the Daechung Dam.

  • In this paper, the minimum mean square error(MSE) convergence of the RBF equalizer is evaluated and compared with the linear equalizer based on the theoretical minimum MSE. The basic idea of comparing these two equalizers comes from the fact that the relationship between the hidden and output layers in the RBF equalizer is also linear. As extensive studies of this research, various channel models are selected, which include linearly separable channel, slightly distorted channel, and severely distorted channel models. In this work, the theoretical minimum MSE for both RBF and linear equalizers were computed, compared and the sensitivity of minimum MSE due to RBF center spreads was analyzed. It was found that RBF based equalizer always produced lower minimum MSE than linear equalizer, and that the minimum MSE value of RBF equalizer was obtained with the center spread which is relatively higher(approximately 2 to 10 times more) than variance of AWGN. This work provides an analytical framework for the practical training of RBF equalizer system.

  • The effect due to group delay and non linear characteristics in high speed data satellite channel was represented in this paper. Based on the modeling of group delay and non linear characteristics the performance was analyzed in ka band satellite channel. The group delay and non-linear characteristics in high speed data transmission severely affect the system performance. The more Eb/No is required to satisfy the required system performance. The optimum operating points of HDR satellite transmission system are implemented by considering analyzed results for channel characteristics

  • In this paper, blind equalization using a modified Fuzzy C-Means algorithm with Gaussian Weights (MFCM_GW) is attempted to the heavy noise-corrupted channels. The proposed algorithm can deal with both of linear and nonlinear channels, because it searches for the optimal channel output states of a channel instead of estimating the channel parameters in a direct manner. In contrast to the common Euclidean distance in Fuzzy C-Means (FCM), the use of the Bayesian likelihood fitness function and the Gaussian weighted partition matrix is exploited in its search procedure. The selected channel states by MFCM_GW are always close to the optimal set of a channel even the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) is heavily corrupted in it. Simulation studies demonstrate that the performance of the proposed method is relatively superior to existing genetic algorithm (GA) and conventional FCM based methods in terms of accuracy and speed.

  • An OFDMA(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiple Access) includes a MIMO(Multi-Input Multi-Output) scheme for improving spectral efficiency and data throughput. Recognizing that the performance of MIMO system is heavily dependent upon the accuracy of channel estimation, we propose a novel channel estimation for the MIMO scheme based on OFDMA. Conventional interpolation-based channel estimation suffers from poor estimation error at specific subcarriers. Proposed scheme makes use of a planar interpolation instead of linear interpolation for those subcarriers of bad accuracy. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme improves the performance of MIMO system by improving the accuracy in channel estimation especially for the adverse subcarrier positions. It is observed that the proposed scheme outperforms the conventional method by about 2dB in terms of both mean squared error and overall bit error rate with a reasonable computational complexity.

  • Tidal channel development is influenced by sediment type, grain size, composition and tidal current. Tidal channels are usually characterized by channel development, density and shape. Quantitative analysis of tidal channels using remotely sensed data have rarely been studied. The objective of this study is to quantify tidal channels in terms of fractal dimension and compare different inter-tidal channel patterns. For the fractal analysis, we used Box counting method which had been successfully applied to streams, coastlines and others linear features. For a study, the southern part of Ganghwado tidal flats was selected where is famous for high dynamics of tidal currents and vast tidal flats. This area has different widths and lengths of tidal channels. IKONOS and Komsat-2 MSC images were used for extracting tidal channels, and the Box counting method was applied to obtain fractal dimensions (D) for each tidal channel. Yeochari area possesses channels with linear pattern and less dense development and accordingly show low D values ranging from 1.037 to 1.038. On other hands, area (near Donggumdo and Yeongjongdo ) of dendrites channel pattern and dense development resulted in high D values from 1.2057 to 1.2667. Also, area possesses channels with linear pattern had low density about $18{\sim}24%$. Area of dendritic channel pattern had high density about $34{\sim}69%$. The difference of fractal dimensions about 0.2 according to channel development in tidal flats is relatively large enough to use as an index for tidal channel classification. Also, area where channels showed linear pattern had low density about $18{\sim}24%$. Area of dendritic channel pattern had high density about $34{\sim}69%$. Using fractal dimension and density, it would be possible to quantify the tidal channel development in association with surface characteristics.

  • In this paper, The existing interference alignment algorithms were analyzed in Rayleigh fading channel environment. The interference alignment techniques are divided to two parts. First thing is Iterative-method, another is Linear-method. Iterative method needs local channel info, but it has the constraint of iteration. On the other hand Linear-method must have global channel info, but has free of iteration and better performance. This paper evaluates the performance of interference alignment algorithms in Rayleigh fading channel of outdoor environment and WLAN channel based on IEEE 802.11n of indoor environment.

  • The paper proposed the new underwater wireless communication system fitted to non-linear acoustic channel. Generally, in non-linear acoustic channel, one used to do acoustic communication using parametric effect that is some effect caused from acoustic wave having frequency different of two primary acoustic wave frequency. In the paper, Offset PSK communication method fitted to non-linear acoustic channel was proposed, and it was demonstrated through simulations.

  • This work analyzes the performance of implementable detectors for the multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) technique under specific and realistic operation system conditions, including antenna correlation and array configuration. A time-domain channel model was used to evaluate the system performance under realistic communication channel and system scenarios, including different channel correlation, modulation order, and antenna array configurations. Several MIMO-OFDM detectors were analyzed for the purpose of achieving high performance combined with high capacity systems and manageable computational complexity. Numerical Monte Carlo simulations demonstrate the channel selectivity effect, while the impact of the number of antennas, adoption of linear against heuristic-based detection schemes, and the spatial correlation effect under linear and planar antenna arrays are analyzed in the MIMO-OFDM context.

  • Compared to the MIMO system using the spatial multiplexing methods and the MIMO system using the diversity scheme achieved a high rate, but the lower the diversity gain to improve the data transmission reliability should separate the spatial stream at the MIMO receiver. In this paper, we compared Channel capacity detection methods with the Lattice code, the 3-user interference channel and linear channel interference detection methods ZF (Zero Forcing) and MMSE (Minimum Mean Square Error) detection methods. The channel is a Diagonal channel. In other words, Diagonal channel is confirmed by the inverse matrix satisfies the properties of Jacket are element-wise inverse to $[H]_N[H]_N^{-1}=[I]_N$.
