  • A new non-linear modelling of a straight pipe conveying fluid is presented for vibration analysis when the pipe is fixed at both ends. Using the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and the non-linear Lagrange strain theory, from the extended Hamilton's principle are derived the coupled non-linear equations of motion for the longitudinal and transverse displacements. These equations of motion are discretized by using the Galerkin method. After the discretized equations are linearized in the neighbourhood of the equilibrium position, the natural frequencies are computed from the linearized equations. On the other hand, the time histories for the displacements are also obtained by applying the generalized-$\alpha$ time integration method to the non-linear discretized equations. The validity of the new modelling is provided by comparing results from the proposed non-linear equations with those from the equations proposed by Paidoussis.

  • The non-linear dynamic characteristics of a semi-circular pipe conveying fluid are investigated when the pipe is clamped at both ends. To consider the geometric non-linearity for the radial and circumferential displacements, this study adopts the Lagrange strain theory for large deformation and the extensible dynamics based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory for slenderness assumption. By using the Hamilton principle, the non-linear partial differential equations are derived for the in-plane motions of the pipe, considering the fluid inertia forces as a kind of non-conservative forces. The linear and non-linear terms in the governing equations are compared with those in the previous study, and some significant differences are discussed. To investigate the dynamic characteristics of the system, the discretized equations of motion are derived form the Galerkin method. The natural frequencies varying with the flow velocity are computed fen the two cases, which one is the linear problem and the other is the linearized problem in the neighborhood of the equilibrium position. Finally, the time responses at various flow velocities are directly computed by using the generalized- method. From these results, we should to describe the non-linear behavior to analyze dynamics of a semi-circular pipe conveying fluid more precisely.

  • The present paper reports an analytical study of delamination fracture in the Mixed Mode Flexure (MMF) functionally graded beam with considering the material non-linearity. The mechanical behavior of MMF beam is modeled by using a non-linear stress-strain relation. It is assumed that the material is functionally graded along the beam height. Fracture behavior is analyzed by the J-integral approach. Non-linear analytical solution is derived of the J-integral for a delamination located arbitrary along the beam height. The J-integral solution derived is verified by analyzing the strain energy release rate with considering the non-linear material behavior. The effects of material gradient, crack location along the beam height and material non-linearity on the fracture are evaluated. It is found that the J-integral value decreases with increasing the upper crack arm thickness. Concerning the influence of material gradient on the non-linear fracture, the analysis reveals that the J-integral value decreases with increasing the ratio of modulus of elasticity in the lower and upper edge of the beam. It is found also that non-linear material behavior leads to increase of the J-integral value. The present study contributes for the understanding of fracture in functionally graded beams that exhibit material non-linearity.

  • Linear motor has a lot of advantages in comparison with conventional feed mechanisms: high velocity, high acceleration, good positioning accuracy and a long lifetime. An important disadvantage of linear motor is its high power loss and heating up of motor and neighboring machine components in operation. For the application of the linear motors to precision machine tools an effective cooling method and thermal optimizing measures are required. In this paper Finite-Element-Method for the thermal behavior of synchronous linear motor is introduced, which is useful for the design and manufacturing of linear motors. By modeling the linear motor the orthotropic physical properties of the sheet metal and windings were considered and convective coefficient in the water cooler and to the surroundings was defined by analytical and experimental method. The calculated isothermal lines could analyze the heat flow in the linear motor.

  • In this study, linear and non-linear response of a masonry wall that includes an opening was presented. The masonry wall was modeled with two-dimensional finite elements. Smeared crack model that includes the strain softening behavior was selected to the masonry wall material. For the numerical application, linear and non-linear analyses of the masonry wall were carried out using east-west and vertical components of the 1992 Erzincan and 2003 $Bing{\ddot{o}}l$ earthquake acceleration records. Linear and non-linear solutions were compared each other. The displacement and stress results at the selected points of the masonry wall and crack propagation in the masonry wall were presented for both earthquake acceleration records.

  • In this paper, we consider the problem of finding the stability region in state space for uncertain linear systems with input saturation. For stability analysis, two Lyapunov functions are chosen. One is for the lineal region and the other is for the saturated legion. Piecewise Lyapunov functions are obtained by solving successive linear matrix inequalites(LMIs) relaxations. A sufficient condition for robust stability is derived in the form of stability region of initial conditions. A numerical example shows the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • An analysis of the relationship between a linear amplifier chain and an analog-to-digital converter(ADC) in a digital microwave widevand receiver, with respect to sensitivity and dynamic range issues, is presented. The effects of gain, third-order intermodulation products and ADC characteristics on the performance of the receiver are illustrated and design criteria for the linear amplifier chain given a specified ADC are developed. A computer program is used to calculate theretical receiver performance based on gain and third-order intermodulation product selections. Simulated results are also presented and compared with theoretical values.

  • The fracture behaviors of aluminum foils and sheet papers were analyzed on the basis of linear elastic fracture mechanics(LEFM). The fracture loads of the similarly shaped specimens were calculated by dimensional analysis. The actual fracture loads were measured using the simple tension equipment. The predicted fracture loads were compared with the experimental results.

  • An analysis method about Transverse Edge Effect is suggested which can be applied even in transversal decline when the mover of linear induction motor runs along a curvilinear path. The criteria for linear induction motor design is proposed by indentifying the influence of the ratio of width and displacement of primary and secondary.
