With standardization of IEEE 802.11n, APs with the 2.4GHz and 5GHz dual-band capability have widely been deployed over a metropolitan area by individuals and internet service providers. Moreover, due to the increasing attentions on indoor-localization technique using Wi-Fi, the need for LOS and NLOS determination scheme is increasing to enhance accuracy of the localization. In this paper, we propose a novel LOS/NLOS determination technique by using different radio attenuation characteristics in different frequency bands and different mediums. Based on this technique, we designed a LOS/NLOS-aware indoor localization scheme. The proposed LOS/NLOS determination algorithm can be used when the distance between an user device and an AP is unknown, and the proposed localization scheme provides very accurate room-level position information. We validated the proposed scheme by implementing it on Android smart phones.

In recent years, RFID has received much attention because of spread usage in industrial applications including factory, material flow, logistics and defense areas. However, there is only CRC-16 for error detection in ISO/IEC 18000-6 Protocols prepared for 860-960 MHz RFID, high error rates are expected in cases of high level of security and noisy envirionment. In this paper, we propose a usage of convolution code as a method for satisfying the high level of security requirement and system error performance.'1'he signal control function is implemented in a microprocessor with RF modulation and the convolutional encoding and Viterbi decoding are implemented in an FPGA chip.'The frame error rates are measured with and without convolution coding under the channel conditions of line-of- sight and non line-of-sight, respectively.

Visible light communication technology, which is a communication using LED lighting, is defined by IEEE 802.15.7 WG and active research is under way. Visible light communication is advantageous not only to avoid interference with existing RF communication but also to provide location based service through accurate positioning by utilizing LOS (Line of Sight) characteristic. Therefore, it is very easy and efficient to locate and track the user's location. In this paper, we implemented a visible light communication transceiver using USB interface for easy application to portable devices. It supports the mobility of mobile devices through internet protocol and showed BER performance of less than $10^{-3}dBm$ at over 1m, which is the height of lighting and smart device during walking.

In the conventional direction finding, the antenna is installed at a high position on the ground to detect the position of the target with the environment of the LOS(Line of Sight) as much as the signal receiving environment. However, in order to configure such environment, high cost and installation time were required. In this paper, we use TDOA(Time Difference of Arrival) technique to utilize drones in direction finding, so that four drones can be used for directions finding simulation. Simulations based on drone and TDOA direction finding were constructed using additional signal processing Taylor series and Exact Interactive Algorithm. In the simulation, the receiving power is defined by using the 800MHz path-loss model using the GPS information of the ground direction detection, and the position estimation performance is analyzed when the TDOA technique, the Taylor series, and the Exact Interactive Alogrithm are applied.

The compensation algorithm for localization using the least-squires method in NLOS(Non Line of Sight) environment is suggested and the performance of the algorithm is analyzed in this paper. In order to improve the localization correction rate of the moving node, 1) the distance value of the moving node that is moving as an constant speed is measured by SDS-TWR(Symmetric Double-Sided Two-Way Ranging); 2) the location of the moving node is measured using the triangulation scheme; 3) the location of the moving node measured in 2) is compensated using the least-squares method. By the experiments in NLOS environment, it is confirmed that the average localization error rates are measured to ${\pm}1m$, ${\pm}0.2m$ and ${\pm}0.1m$ by the triangulation scheme, the Kalman filter and the least-squires method respectively. As a result, we can see that the localization error rate of the suggested algorithm is higher than that of the triangulation as average 86.0% and the Kalman filter as average 16.0% respectively.

Spatial distribution of chemical species in flame is a important indicator understanding the flame structure and combustion characteristics, and optical emission spectroscopy has been widely used for the measurement because of its simple and non-intrusive methodology. In this study, we suggest the feasibility of the measurement of chemical species (OH radical) distribution in rocket plume using optical emission spectrometer which was developed for the spatially resolved measurement along the line-of-sight. In order to predict the ground state concentration of species from the measured emission intensity by optical emission spectrometer, we consider thermal and chemical excitation mechanisms in flame, and assume thermodynamic equilibrium for the thermally excited species. We also present the spatial resolution and the correction of collection characteristics of the optical emission spectrometer depending on object distance.

WAVE (Wireless Access in Vehicular Environments) communications is the core technology for C-ITS (Cooperative-Intelligent Transportation System) which communicates with the road infrastructure and other vehicles to exchange traffic information and service while driving. In this paper, to analyze the performance degradation according to the distance between WAVE communication terminals, we derived the formulas for the locations of down-fade and up-fade points by using the two-ray ground reflection model, and verified these theoretical results by comparing with those of RSSI (Receiver Signal Strength Indicator) measurements. In addition, to solve the problem of down-fade, we suggested the WAVE communication with the antenna diversity and experimentally confirmed the performance improvement in the highway LOS (Line Of Sight) environments.
In the case of Non-Line-of-Sight (NLOS), common telecommunication systems typically have Rayleigh distributed amplitude characteristics. However measurement result of Ultra Wideband (UWB) Multi-Band Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (MB-OFDM) system which is proposed as one of candidate standard in IEEE 802. 15. 3a for Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) shows that it has independent log normal fading in each cluster as well as in each ray within the cluster. Based on this clustering phenomenon observed, MB-OFDM channel model derived from Saleh-Valenzuela model with a couple of slight modifications. In this paper, channel remodeling for RF frequency hopping in MB-OFDM system is achieved, and performances of MB-OFDM system for each channel mode and data rate are verified using modified channel model.

IEEE 802.15.4a standard can provide a variety of location-based services for ZigBee or wireless network applications by adapting the time-of-arrival (TOA) ranging technique. The non-line-of-sight (NLOS) condition is the critical problem in the IEEE 802.15.4a networks, and it can significantly degrade the performance of the TOA-based localization. To enhance the location accuracy due to the NLOS problem, this paper proposes an energy-efficient low complexity localization algorithm. The proposed approach performs the ranging with the multicast method, which can reduce the message overhead due to packet exchanges. By limiting the search region for the location of the node, the proposed approach can enhance the location accuracy. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm outperforms previous algorithms in terms of the energy consumption and the localization accuracy.

In the UAVs, the position error of the inertial navigation system is constantly increased when global positioning system goes wrong due to interference. It makes impossible to ensure mission and flight safety. If the data-link system provide the position of the UAV for inertial navigation system periodically, then the UAV may operate normally under malfunction of the global positioning system. In this paper, we introduce an algorithm for estimating the position of the UAV using the monopulse tracking and distance measurement of the line-of-sight data-link system. Also, we propose a method to improve the performance of position estimation. And we assured ourselves that this method can be applied in the UAVs.
