  • W, Fe, and carbon powders were mechanical alloyed to produce $W_{35}Fe_{43}C_{22}$ ternary alloy powders containing nanocrystal W embedded within amorphous matrix. When the powder samples were heated to the primary crystallization temperature of $735^{\circ}C$, most parts of their amorphous region were fully crystallized to [W,Fe]-rich $M_6C$ carbides. Interestingly, a little portion of the carbides changes to stoichiometric line compounds ($M_{12}C$ and $W_6Fe_7$) and a solution phase (Fe-rich bcc), and remaining parts of the crystallites were amorphized again. The resulting microstructure was retained even by cyclic heating between room temperature of $1,200^{\circ}C$, and thus we found that the amorphous structure can be irreversibly formed at above glass transition temperature.

  • Pumps are used widely in feed water, cooling & heating system and process line of industrial and construction fields. They consume nearly 20% of the each nation's total electrical energy. But The management of pump energy wasn't controlled well. Their loss of energy is huge if they have been operated at low efficiency. The first buying cost of pump is small compare to the power consumption of pump, so we can recommend the suitable replace time and best operating condition of parts and pump to measure the pump efficiency. Pump efficiency is usually measured according to the two methods which they are called thermodynamic method and traditional technique. And we measured the pump efficiency using two methods using potable pump efficiency measurement device and compared the results with the real performance curve offered from pump maker.

  • This paper proposes using sodium-cooled fast reactor technologies for use in hydrogen vapor methane (SMR) modification. Using three independent energy rings in the Russian BN-600 fast reactor, steam is generated in one of the steam-generating cycles with a pressure of 13.1 MPa and a temperature of 505 ℃. The reactor's second energy cycles can increase the gas-steam mixture's temperature to the required amount for efficient correction. The 620 ton/hr 540 ℃ steam generated in this cycle is sufficient to supply a high-temperature synthesis current source (700 ℃), which raises the steam-gas mixture's temperature in the reactor. The proposed technology provides a high rate of hydrogen production (approximately 144.5 ton/hr of standard H2), also up to 25% of the original natural gas, in line with existing SMR technology for preparing and heating steam and gas mixtures will be saved. Also, exergy analysis results show that the plant's efficiency reaches 78.5% using HTR heat for combined hydrogen and power generation.

  • To evaluate the performance of concrete load bearing walls in a structure under horizontal loads after being exposed to real fire, two steps were followed. In the first step, an experimental study was performed on the thermo-mechanical properties of concrete after heating to temperatures of 200-1000℃ with the purpose of determining the residual mechanical properties after cooling. The temperature was increased in line with natural fire curve in an electric furnace. The peak temperature was maintained for a period of 1.5 hour and then allowed to cool gradually in air at room temperature. All specimens were made from calcareous aggregate to be used for determining the residual properties: compressive strength, static and dynamic elasticity modulus by means of UPV test, including the mass loss. The concrete residual compressive strength and elastic modulus values were compared with those calculated from Eurocode and other analytical models from other studies, and were found to be satisfactory. In the second step, experimental analysis results were then implemented into structural numerical analysis to predict the post-fire load-bearing capacity response of the walls under vertical and horizontal loads. The parameters considered in this analysis were the effective height, the thickness of the wall, various support conditions and the residual strength of concrete. The results indicate that fire damage does not significantly affect the lateral capacity and stiffness of reinforced walls for temperature fires up to 400℃.

  • To meet the increasing heating needs of the China Fusion Experimental Tokamak Reactor (CFETR), the output power in each Lower Hybrid Current Drive (LHCD) transmission line should be increased from 250 kW to 500 kW. Therefore, a new high-power water load must be developed for the 4.6 GHz 500 kW LHCD system. This paper aims to report the most recent research progress of the water load: aluminum nitride (AlN) ceramic is used as the media material to isolate the water and vacuum, and the radio frequency (RF) simulation results show that the return loss of the water load is less than -25dB at 4.6 GHz over a wide temperature range. Under 500 kW continuous wave (CW) operation, the maximum temperatures of the ceramic and water are separately 67 ℃ and 62 ℃, resulting in thermal deformation of the ceramic of approximately 0.003 mm. Moreover, the AlN water load was tested on the 4.6 GHz 250 kW high-power test bench and found to work well with low reflected power.

  • The Ministry of Environment established a guide line in December 2006, "Indoor Air Quality Management guidelines in Public Facilities." As the items of the guideline, $CO_2$ (Carbon dioxide) and PM10 (particulate matter) is shown to Level 1 and 2. Therefore trains and subways are included. There are a lot of tunnels by the lay of mountains on KTX (Korean Train Express) service. HVAC (Heating Ventilating and Air-conditioning)-pressurization equipment on KTX is various functioning flaps blocking outside pressure waves. At that time, the fresh air is blocked by flap operation and the air is circulated by return air. In this study, we measured the time series of $CO_2$ and PM10 concentrations in the KTX passenger cabin during the train service of Gyongbu line (Seoul-Busan) and Honan line (Yongsan-Mokpo) from July 2006. Also, analyzed the air quality by operation of KTX HVAC-pressurization equipment in tunnel passing point. As a result, PM10 concentration was totally lower than the regulation values. However, $CO_2$ was highly correlated with several tunnels, such as Oksan-Otan, Godeung-Hyudae and Gaechak-Iijik tunnel. but, the indoor air quality of KTX train have been proved satisfy the recommendation the Ministry of Environment guidelines.

  • The heat transportation from a complex of industry to a rural area needs more efficient method because the distance between them is usually more than 10km. Conventional heat transportation using steam or hot water via pipe line has limits in transportation distance (about 3~5 km) because of the heat loss and frictional loss in the pipe line. Metal hydride can absorb or discharge hydrogen through exothermic or endothermic reaction. After releasing hydrogen from metal hydride by means of the waste heat from industry, we can transport this hydrogen to urban area via pipe line. In urban areas, other metal alloy reacts with this hydrogen to form metal hydride and produces heat for heating. Cool heat is also obtained if it is possible to use metal hydride with low reaction temperature. Therefore, metal hydride can be used as a media for transportation and storage of heat. $MmNi_{4.5}Al_{0.5}Zr_{0.003}$, $LaNi_5$, $Zr_{0.9}Ti_{0.1}Cr_{0.6}Fe_{1.4}$, $MmNi_{4.7}Al_{0.1}Fe_{0.1}V_{0.1}$ alloys were selected for this purpose and the properties of those metal hydrides were discussed. The design and control techniques were proposed and discussed for this heat transportation system using metal hydride.

  • Synthesis of new active protein was investigated by heat-treatment and fermentation of kidney beans with Bacillus subtilis ATCC 51189. The amount of water-soluble protein in raw kidney bean (raw protein, RP) was greatly reduced by heating (heated protein, HP) and several new amino acids were synthesized by fermentation. The molecular weights of proteins determined by SDS-PAGE were 118 kDa for RP and a new band of 18.0 kDa For protein (fermented protein, FP) in kidney beans heated and fermented with B. subtilis ATCC 51189. Hemagglutinating activities of RP, HP and FP were 128 HU, 4 HU and 32 HU respectively. Both of RP and FP showed anticancer activity against stomach cancer cell line (SNU-1) at 50 $\mu\textrm{g}$g/mL and lymphocyte stimulating activity at 1 $\mu\textrm{g}$/mL, and stimulated PBMC to secrete IFN-${\gamma}$ and IL-12. However, HP did not show any kinds of activities. Taken together, these results suggested that lectin in kidney beans was destroyed by heating, hut new active lectin-like Protein was derived by fermentation with B. subtilis ATCC 51189.

  • As performance-based design (PBD) has a direct impact on evacuation safety assessments, designing fire scenarios based on real fire tests is essential. To improve the reliability of the PBD for fire safety in multiplexes, information on fire behavior, such as heat release rate (HRR) and fire spread rate, are provided in this study by conducting a standard fabric flammability test. To this end, several chairs were arranged in a pattern that resembled a theater-style seating. The peak HRR and heating value per unit mass for each chair ranged from 415 kW to 988 kW and 15.2 MJ/kg to 23.8 MJ/kg, respectively. The heating values per unit mass of the new and old chairs were 23.6 MJ/kg and 16.7 MJ/kg, respectively. As the quantity of plastic and cushioning materials in the new chairs was more than that of the old ones, the new chairs were more vulnerable to fire hazards. Furthermore, when the chairs were arranged in a line, the fire spread rate was observed to be 0.39-0.42 m/min, regardless of the ignition location. Finally, a fire growth curve showing the peak HRR and fire spread rate was also demonstrated.

  • The Direct Contact heat Exchanger(DCHX) has been widely studied in the chemical industry for many years due to its inherent simplicity as a counter-current divice for heat and mass transfer. In many solar systems, the DCHX unit can be combined with the thermal storage unit, or alternatively, it can be used separately from the storage unit, much like an external(to storage) closed heat exchanger system. In the present work, the spray column type of direct contact heat exchangers are studied extensively to harness the solar energy for hot water and spaced heating. Some of the major considerations that are involved in the design of heat exchangers in this study are that : working fluid is a hydrocaabon(such as Texaterm) or water which is either lighter or heavier than storage medium. The experimental data have revealed some interesting characteristics concerning the application of DCHXs for solar energy utilization. These experiments are carried out in the line of solar heating system, major results are as follows : 1) the flow and aspect of working fluid drop for maxium heat transfer 2) efficiency and volumetric heat transfer coefficient of D.C.H.X with a heavier working fluid are higher than those of D.C.H.X with a lighter working fluid.
