  • Techniques for approximating digitalcurves by polygonal lines are a valuable tool for image analysis and data compression. S. Shilien proposed a method for segmenting a digital curve into digital straight line segments digital straight line segments which are not satisfied with the structural properties, and have more than one break point by Shilien's method. Here, the structural representation of digital straight lines and digital staight line segments is described. And a method for segmenting a digital curve into digital straight line segments which are not satisfied with the structural properties, and have more than one break point by Shilien's method. Here, the structural representation of digital straight lines and digital staight line segments is described. And a method for segmenting a digital curve into digital straight line segments which may be not satisfied with the structural properties is proposed. The number of break points extracted by this method is less than that by S. Shilien's method from the digital curve which includes the digital straight line segments not satisfied with the structural properties.

  • The purpose of this study is to build and manage environment models with line segments from sonar range data on obstacles in unknown and varied environments. The proposed method therefore employs a two-stage data-transform process in order to extract environmental line segments from range data on obstacles. In the first stage, the occupancy grid extracted from the range data is accumulated to form a two-dimensional local histogram grid. In the second stage, a line histogram extracted from a local histogram grid is based on a Hough transform, and matching serves as a means of comparing each of the segments on a global line segments map against the line segments to detect the degree of similarity in the overlap, orientation, and arrangement. Each of these tests is formulated by comparing one of the parameters in the segment representation. After the tests, new line segments can be found at maximum-density cells in the line histogram, and they are composed onto the global line segment map. The proposed technique is demonstrated in experiments in an indoor environment.

  • In this paper, we propose a self-localization algorithm using vertical line segments. Indoor environment is consist of horizontal and vertical line features such as doors, furniture, and so on. From the input image, vertical line edges are detected by an edge operator, Then, line segments are obtained by projecting edge image vertically and detecting local maximum from the projected histogram. From the relation of horizontal position of line segments and the location of the robot, nonlinear equations are come out Localization is done by solving the equations by using Newton's method. Experimental results show that the proposed algorithm using one camera is simple and applicable to indoor environment.

신 스플라인보간법의 퍼포먼스 가설점정 (Hypothesis Tests For Performances of a New Spline Interpolation Technique)

  • 벡터 GIS에서 자연선형체는 통상 일련의 직선분(line segments)에 의해 표시되나 그 대안으로 곡선분(curve segments) 역시 사용될 수 있다. 곡선분은 스플라인보간법에 의해 생성가능하며 이를 위해 Bezier방법과 신보간법(유기윤, 1998)이 사용될 수 있는데 본 연구에서는 신보간법의 퍼포먼스를 테스트해 보았다. 테스트는 두 가지에 촛점을 두었는데 (1) 새보간법에 의해 생성된 선형분이 직선분 보다 정확하게 자연선형체를 표현할 수 있는지 여부와 (2) 새보간법에 의해 생성된 선형분이 Bezier방법에 의해 생성된 선형분 보다 자연선형체를 정확하게 표현할 수 있는지 여부에 대한 검정이다. 이를 위해 t-테스트에 의한 가설검정법이 이용되었으며 자료로는 미 지질조사국의 7.5분 지형도가 이용되었다. 테스트결과 새보간법과 Bezier방법에 의해 생성된 선형분이 직선분 보다 자연선 형체를 정확하게 표현하였으며 새보간법에 의해 생성된 선형분이 Bezier방법에 의해 생성된 선형분보다 정확하게 표현하였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 미지의 환경에서 이동로봇이 주행 중 얻어진 격자 지도(grid map)상의 장애물 정보를 이용하여 직선 성분으로 이동로봇 주변환경을 표현한다. 격자 지도의 장애물 정보는 초음파 센서를 이용하여 얻어지므로 이동로봇과 인접한 장애물 정보만을 얻게 된다 얻어진 격자 정보를 호프변환을 이용하여 직선선분을 구축하고 완성해 간다. 논의된 방법은 실험을 통하여 증명하였다.

항공영상으로부터 에지 맵의 체인코드 추적에 의한 선소추출 (Line Segments Extraction by using Chain Code Tracking of Edge Map from Aerial Images)

  • 고해상도의 항공영상으로부터 3차원 와이어프레임(wire-frame) 구성을 위한 새로운 선소 추출 알고리듬을 제안하였다. 본 연구의 목적은 기존의 방식들의 문제점인 라인 불일치 문제, 에지부분의 Blurring 문제 등을 고려하여 보다 정밀하고 효과적인 선소를 추출하는데 있다. 먼저 항공영상으로부터 에지맵을 추출한 후, 에지 점들의 체인 코드 추적을 수행하고 에지강도와 방향성분을 고려한 선소의 추출을 행하였다. 에지맵의 추출은 Smith가 제안한 SUSAN(Smallest Univalue Segment Assimilating Nucleus) 알고리듬을 이용하였다. 제안한 알고리듬은 다음의 4 단계로 구성된다. 에지 맵의 체인코드 추적 결과에 기반하여 비선소 후보점을 감소시키기 위한 수평/수직/대각 성분 제거, 인접점 제거, 각도 일치점 제거, 선소를 이루는 시작점 및 끝점 검출 등의 과정을 통하여 선소추출을 행하였다. 제안한 알고리듬과 기존의 Boldt 알고리듬을 비교한 결과 제안한 알고리듬이 건물을 이루고 있는 주요 선소를 더욱 충실히 찾아냈고 불필요한 선소는 적게 찾아냄을 확인하였다.

검색에 기초한 파형 검출 알고리듬 (Waveform Detection Algorithm based on the Search of Distinctive Line-Segments)

  • We present a new waveform detection method, based on the search of distinctive line-segments. The method is based on the basic assumption that the waveform morphology of biological signals is readily characterized by a sequence of the distinctive line-segments and their structural features. In this method, the distinctive line-segments are first searched for, and a structural feature analysis is performed an the distinctive line-segments found. Experiments of detecting epileptic spikes were carried out to evaluate the detection per formance of the method. Two subjects were used for training and tuning the algorithm and four subjects for testing the method. The results were obtained on two different performance indices, detection ratio and the number of false detections per minute.

Elementary School Students' Mathematical Metaphors for Line Segments, Straight Lines, and Rays

  • This research investigates the development of elementary students' concepts of line segments, straight lines, and rays, employing metaphor analysis as a research methodology. By analyzing metaphorical expressions, the research aims to explore how elementary students form these geometric concepts line segments, straight lines, and lays and evolve their understanding of them across different grades. Surveys were conducted with elementary school students in grades three to six, focusing on metaphorical expressions and corresponding their reasons associated with line segments, straight lines, and rays. The data were analyzed through coding and categorization to identify the types in students' metaphorical expressions. The analysis of metaphorical expressions identified five types: straightness, infinity or direction, connections of another geometric concepts, shape and symbols, and terminology.

Single-View Reconstruction of a Manhattan World from Line Segments

  • Single-view reconstruction (SVR) is a fundamental method in computer vision. Often used for reconstructing human-made environments, the Manhattan world assumption presumes that planes in the real world exist in mutually orthogonal directions. Accordingly, this paper addresses an automatic SVR algorithm for Manhattan worlds. A method for estimating the directions of planes using graph-cut optimization is proposed. After segmenting an image from extracted line segments, the data cost function and smoothness cost function for graph-cut optimization are defined by considering the directions of the line segments and neighborhood segments. Furthermore, segments with the same depths are grouped during a depth-estimation step using a minimum spanning tree algorithm with the proposed weights. Experimental results demonstrate that, unlike previous methods, the proposed method can identify complex Manhattan structures of indoor and outdoor scenes and provide the exact boundaries and intersections of planes.
