In active sonar field, a target detection and localization based on a distributed sensor network has been much studied for the underwater surveillance of the coast. Zhou et al. proposed a target localization method utilizing the positions of target-detected sensors in distributed sensor network which consists of detection-only sensors. In contrast with a conventional method, Zhou's method dose not require to estimate the propagation model parameters of detection signal. Also it needs the lower computational complexity, and to transmit less data between network nodes. However, it has large target localization error. So it has been modified for reducing localization error by Ryu. Modified Zhou's method has better estimation performance than Zhou's method, but still relatively large estimation error. In this paper, a target localization method based on modified Zhou's method is proposed for reducing the localization error. The proposed method utilizes the geometry of the positions of target-detected sensors and a line that represents the bearing of target, a line can be found by modified Zhou's method. This paper shows that the proposed method has better target position estimation performance than Zhou's and modified Zhou's method by computer simulations.
Catenary and Pantograph are used to transmit electrical energy to electric railways. Catenary (Overhead Contact Lines) should be installed precisely and managed for stable train operations. But external factors such as weather, temperature, etc., or aging affect catenary geometry. Changed catenary stagger and height cause high voltage spark or instant electric contact loss. Big spark derived from contact loss can damage the pantograph carbon strip and overhead contact lines that might interrupt the train operations. Therefore, to prevent a big scale spark or electric contact loss, catenary maintenance are required catenary geometry measurement systems with catenary maintenance capability. In this paper, we describe the development of catenary height and stagger measurement system. The catenary height and stagger measurement system uses Acuity company's AR4000 Laser Range Finder for distance measurement and AccuRange Line Scanner for degree measurement. This system detects suspicious overhead line sections with excessive stagger and height stagger variance.
Various matching methods have been introduced by investigators to improve digital elevation model (DEM) accuracy of satellite imagery. This study proposed an area-based matching method according to land cover property using correlation coefficient of pixel brightness value between the two images for DEM generation from IKONOS stereo imagery. For this, matching line (where "matching line" implies straight line that is approximated to complex nonlinear epipolar geometry) is established by exterior orientation parameters to minimize search area. The matching is carried out based on this line. Land cover classes are divided off into water, urban land, forest and agricultural land. Matching size is selected using a correlation-coefficient image in the four areas. The selected sizes are $81{\times}81$ pixels window, $21{\times}21$ pixels window, $119{\times}119$ pixels window and $51{\times}51$ pixels window in the water area, urban land, forest land and agricultural land, respectively. And hence, DEM is generated from IKONOS stereo imagery using the selected matching sizes and land cover map on the four types.
The following research focuses on the formation method of digital space by organistic line extension among various digital formation methods. The paper reflects on the meaning and concept of today's digitalism which enables the application of complex organistic system on space through advanced technology. It also explores the concept of a line in topology which differs in assumptive meaning from traditional Euclidian geometry. The findings of the research are that first, digital space is not optimized, but is a tentative formation in process. A digital space encompasses characteristics such as infinity, possibility, potential, asymmetry, and the force of virtuality such characteristics are expressed through a moving surface constantly changing with direction. Second, a digital space formed by line extension is inseparable and durable since no measurement or dimension is predetermined. Furthermore, its sense of direction and flexibility gives it a feeling of a living organism. Third, a Euclidian methodology called 'NURBS' is being developed to express such a dynamic digital space; this is reflected through three elements, control point, weights, and knots to effectively reflect the characteristics of virtuality. The opportunities of digital space are infinite, and the possibilities of formation methods likewise vast.

This paper reports a miniaturized conductor-backed CPW (CBCPW) bandpass filter based on a thin film polyimide layer coated on CMOS-grade silicon. With a 20 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$-thick polyimide interface layer and back metallization on the CMOS-grade silicon, the interaction of electromagnetic fields with the lossy silicon substrate has been isolated, and as a result a low-loss and low-dispersive CBCPW line has been obtained. Measured attenuation constant at 20 GHz is below 1.2 ㏈/cm, which is compatible with the CPW on GaAs. In addition, by using the proposed CBCPW geometry, miniaturized BPF for Ku band application is designed and its measured frequency response shows excellent agreement with the predicted value with validating the performances of the proposed CBCPW geometry for RFIC interconnects and filter applications.

Milling process has beer used in aircraft, auto-component and mold industries widely. They need more accurate and precise parts to improve the performance and quality of their products. So, the geometrical form accuracy of the workpiece surface generated by this process is getting more and more important. Generally, the form accuracy is affected by machine conditions, cutting conditions, tool geometry, tool deflection by cutting force and tool path md so on. Even though they are controlled as perfect conditions, it is easily found that there is a line along the axis of a cylindrically milled part. It is presumed that the tool approaching causes this error on milled surface. Thus, the study for investigating the effect of the tool approaching path on the cylindrical surface geometry of the end-milled part is carried out.

The exchange of model design data among heterogeneous CAD systems is very difficult because each CAD system has different data structures suitable for its own functions. STEP represents product information in a common computer-interpretable form that is required to remain complete and consistent when the product information is needed to be exchanged among different computer systems. However, STEP has complex architecture to represent point, line, curve and vectors of element. Moreover it can't represent geometry data of feature based models. In this study, a structure of XML document that represents geometry data of feature based models as neutral format has been developed. To use the developed XML document, a converter also has been developed to exchange modules so that it can exchange feature based data models among heterogeneous CAD systems. Developed XML document and Converter have been applied to commercial CAD systems.

This paper presents the numerical results of the stress analysis of wheel-rail contact problems. Two models which have straight and tapered(1:20) contact geometries between the wheelset and rail are analyzed using the finite element approach. From the simulation results we found that the tapered geometry of wheel-rail contact base line showed very stable contact stress distributions for a whole contact position between the wheel and rail in a curved rail section. The FEM computed results may present an optimized geometry of wheel-rail contact in a high-speed railway system.
Extrusion die-lip buildup has direct and negative impact on the properties of the final product. At the present time there is no absolute method of die-lip prevention. However, a Periodical shut down of extrusion line for the removal has been the general practice throughout the industry in concern. In this study the die-lip buildup was Investigated with a particular attention paid to the influence of die exit geometry and dimensions on the stresses produced at the point of die exit. To demonstrate the relationship between the stress state and the magnitude of the die-lip buildup, a method of virtual manufacturing was performed, assuming elastic-plastic material behavior for the high-density polyethylene under investigation. The overall numerical results suggested that the longer the die-land and/or the smaller the areal reduction of the die would reduce the tendency for the die-lip formation. Similarly, haying a fillet around the circumferential edge of the die exit would be favorable in decreasing the die-lip buildup.
