  • The Load and Resistance Factor Design(LRFD) Specification defines two sets of limiting width-to-thickness ratios. On the basis of these limiting values, steel sections are subdivided into three categories: compact, noncompact, and slender sections. In this paper, I-Type girders of a 2 span continuous steel bridge are divided into compact and non-compact sections and analyzed. In the design process, an optimization formulation was adopted and ADS, a Fortran program for Automated Design Synthesis, was used. In this study, we studied about change of the section between compact and non-compact using optimization formulation.

  • The effects of punch and blank shapes in the rectangular cup drawing process are examined experimentally to improve the formabilities. For this purpose, three blank shapes which are h-bl., G-bl., and T-bl., and five punch shape factors which are the ratios of two adjacent side lengths in rectangular cross section are adopted. The constructing methods of the three blank shapes are as follows. The h-bl. is designed by slip-line theory, and the G-bl. is selected for the similar shape to the punch. The T-bl. is obtained by the drawing method which is introduced in the technical references. The five punch shape factors are selected for length/width=1, 1.25, 1.5, 1.75 and 2. The experimental procedures are performed for all the above forming conditions to investigate and compare the formabilities. As a result, it is verified experimentally that the rectangular cups drawn by the h-bl. are more ideal than those drawn by G-bl. and T-bl.. They have not only higher limiting drawing ratio, more uniformity in drawn cup heights and more ideal thickness distributions, but also need relatively less maximum drawing forces.

  • For the fabrication of fault current limiting device using HTSC thick film, YBa$_2Cu_3O_x$ superconducting thick film was formed by surface diffusion process of the Y$_2BaCUO_5$ and the mixed compound of (3BaCuO$_2$+2CuO) expected to be liquid phase above the peritectic temperature of YBa$_2Cu_3O_x$. For the surface diffusion, the compounds of 3BaCuO$_2$+2CuO mixed with binder material was patterned on Y$_2BaCUO_5$ substrate by the screen printing method. After proper sintering, the characteristics of current limit on thick film fabricated was measured. The thick film was able to limit the current from 2.8213 mA$_{rms}$nu to 4.2034 mA$_{rms}$ with 500${\omega}$ load resistance, and from 4.1831 mA$_{rms}$ to 4.2150 mA$_{rms}$ with 10${\omega}$ load resistance.

  • The resistive superconducting fault current limiters (SFCLs) are very attractive devices for the electric power network. But they have some serious problems when the YBCO thin films were used for the current limiting materials due to the in homogeneities caused by manufacturing process. When the YBCO films have some inhomogeneities, simultaneous quenches are difficult to achieve when the fault current limiting units are connected in series for increasing operating voltage ratings. Magnetic field application is one of the prospective way of inducing simultaneous quenches far the series-connected resistive FCL components. Magnetic field was typically generated by the fault current thorough a coil, which is connected to components of the fault current limiter in series, leaving the problem, which provides significant inductance to the power line and suppresses critical current density of the superconducting components. In this article we investigated the possible application of the protective current transformer (p-CT), which is available current source to the magnetic coil. This system inductively coupled to the circuit, therefore, remarkably reducing impedance to the circuit. The current by the protective current transformer was directly fed to the coil, generating magnetic field large enough to reduce critical current density of the components. This successfully induced simultaneous quenches of the series-connected resistive FCL components.

  • This paper investigates the integrated control of an air-breathing hypersonic vehicle considering the safety of propulsion system under acceleration. First, the vehicle/engine coupling model that contains a control-oriented vehicle model and a quasi-one-dimensional dual-mode scramjet model is established. Next, the coupling process of the integrated control system is introduced in detail. Based on the coupling model, the integrated control framework is studied and an integrated control system including acceleration command generator, vehicle attitude control loop and engine multivariable control loop is discussed. Then, the effectiveness and superiority of the integrated control system are verified through the comparison of normal case and limiting case of an air-breathing hypersonic scramjet coupling model. Finally, the main results show that under normal acceleration case and limiting acceleration case, the integrated control system can track the altitude and speed of the vehicle extremely well and adjust the angle deflection of elevator to offset the thrust moment to maintain the attitude stability of the vehicle, while assigning the two-stage fuel equivalent ratio to meet the thrust performance and safety margin of the engine. Meanwhile, the high-acceleration requirement of the air-breathing hypersonic vehicle makes the propulsion system operating closer to the extreme dangerous conditions. The above contents demonstrate that considering the propulsion system safety will make integrated control system more real and meaningful.

  • Liquid metal extraction (LME) process results in 100% neodymium (Nd) extraction but the highest extraction efficiency reported for Dysprosium (Dy) so far is 74%. Oxidation of Dy is the major limiting factor for incomplete Dy extraction. In order to enhance the extraction efficiency and to further investigate the limiting factors for incomplete extraction, experiments were carried out on six different particle sizes of under 200 ㎛, 200-300 ㎛, 300-700 ㎛, 700-1000 ㎛, 1000-2000 ㎛ and over 2000 ㎛ at 900℃ with magnesium-to-magnet scrap ratio of 15:1 for 6, 24 and 48 hours, respectively. This research identified Dy2Fe17 in addition to Dy2O3 phase to be responsible for incomplete extraction. The relationship between Dy2Fe17 and Dy2O3 phase was investigated, and the overall extraction efficiency of Dy was enhanced to 97%.

  • Chemical mechanical planarization (CMP) is the polishing process enabled by both chemical and mechanical actions. CMP is used in the fabrication process of the integrated circuits to achieve adequate planarity necessary for stringent photolithography depth of focus requirements. And recently copper is preferred in the metallization process because of its low resistivity. We have studied the effects of chemical reaction on the polishing rate and surface planarity in copper CMP by means of numerical simulation solving Navier-Stokes equation and copper diffusion equation. We have performed pore-scale simulation and integrated the results over all the pores underneath the wafer surface to calculate the macroscopic material removal rate. The mechanical abrasion effect was not included in our study and we concentrated our focus on the transport phenomena occurring in a single pore. We have observed the effects of several parameters such as concentration of chemical additives, relative velocity of the wafer, slurry film thickness or ash)tract ratio of the pore on the copper removal rate and the surface planarity. We observed that when the chemical reaction was rate-limiting step, the results of simulation matched well with the experimental data.

  • A 10 Gb/s limiting amplifier IC with the emitter area of $1.5{\times}10{\mu}m^2$ for optical transmission system was designed and fabricated with a AIGaAs/GaAs HBTs technology. In this stud)', we evaluated fine pitch bump using WL-CSP (Wafer Level-Chip Scale Packaging) instead of conventional wire bonding for interconnection. For this we developed WL-CSP process and formed fine pitch solder bump with the $40{\mu}m$ diameter and $100{\mu}m$ pitch on bonding pad. To study the effect of WL-CSP, electrical performance was measured and analyzed in wafer and package module using WL-CSP. In a package module, clear and wide eye diagram openings were observed and the riselfall times were about 100ps, and the output" oltage swing was limited to $600mV_{p-p}$ with input voltage ranging from 50 to 500m V. The Small signal gains in wafer and package module were 15.56dB and 14.99dB respectively. It was found that the difference of small signal gain in wafer and package module was less then 0.57dB up to 10GHz and the characteristics of return loss was improved by 5dB in package module. This is due to the short interconnection length by WL-CSP. So, WL-CSP process can be used for millimeter wave GaAs MMIC with the fine pitch pad.

  • Although different disposal routes of waste-activated sludge are possible, anaerobic digestion plays an important role for its abilities to further transform organic matter into methane. The potential of using methane as energy source has long been widely recognised and the present paper extensively reviews the principles of anaerobic digestion, the process parameters and hydrolysis. Hydrolysis is recognised as rate-limiting step in the complex digestion process. To accelerate the digestion and enhance the production of biogas, various pre-treatments can be used to improve the rate-limiting hydrolysis. These treatments include mechanical, thermal, chemical and biological interventions to the feedstock. All pre-treatments result in a lysis or disintegration of sludge cells, thus releasing and solubilizing intracellular material into the water phase and transforming refractory organic material into biodegradable species. The reader will finally be guided to extensive discussion for anaerobic digestion processes.

  • Ammonia accumulation is regarded as the limiting factor of the first priority in water qualities of aquatic culture systems. Nitrification efficiency and characteristics in seawater were evaluated using Rotating Biological Contactor (RBC) process as a part of the recycling water treatment facilities for marine fish culture system. Ammonia removal efficiency regarded 99.7 to $83.7\%$ at the ammonia surface loading rates of 48 to $393 mg/m^2$ -day. RBC process was able to withstand to the fluctuation of influent ammonia concentrations and loading and produced the stable effluent. The mathematical model on the fixed-film biological reactor developed by Kornegay seemed to be suitable to RBC process kinetic evaluation for the recycling water treatment of the marine fish culture system. Area capacity constant (P) and half-velocity constant (Ks) in the model were 0.188g/m^2$-day and 1.25mg/l, respectively.
