UWB impulse radio signals have an very short duration, extremely wide bandwidth and share the same frequency spectrum with other existing systems. It was determined by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) that UWB systems could cause interference with other systems, such as Global Positioning System (GPS) for example. Therefore, at present. the FCC has restricted the use of UWB systems to frequencies above 3.1㎓. In this paper, We evaluated performance of UWB system using proposed pulses in [1][2] that are strictly limited in time to remove interference while, at the same time, contain their power distribution to a frequency band from 3.1㎓ to 10.6㎓. In particular, We evaluated the BER Performance in relation to system parameters such as pulse duration. $\delta$, the number of users. Nu. and the number of symbols, M. We found the optimal pulse duration $\delta$ through computer simulation using developed UWB pulses in [1][2]. It is shown that performance evaluation between the UWB communication system using these UWB pulses [1][2]and the Gaussian monocycle pulse in M-ary PPM and BPSK schemes. These results can be contributed to construct M-ary PPM UWB communication system in terms of multiuser parameters and pulse duration.

Exact prediction of resource demands for future calls enhances the efficiency of the limited resource utilization in resource reservation methods for potential calls in wireless IP networks. In this paper, we propose a LMS-Wiener resource(bandwidth) prediction for future handoff calls, and then an the proposed method is compared with an existing Wiener-based method in terms of prediction error through our simulations. In our simulations, we assume that handoff call arrivals follow a non-Poisson process and each handoff call has an non-exponentially distributed channel holdingtime in the cell, considering that handoff call arrival pattern is not Poisson distribution but non-Poisson for long periods of time in wireless picocellular IP networks. Simulation results show that the prediction error in the proposed method converges to the lower value while in an existing method increase as time is passed. Therefore we may conclude that the proposed method improves the efficiency of resource utilization by more exactly predicting resource demands for future handoff calls than an existing method.

The use of space-division multiple access(SDMA) in the downlink of multiuser multi-input/multi-output(MIMO) wireless transmission systems can provide substantial gains in system throughput. When the channel state information(CSI) is available at the transmitter, a considerable performance improvement can be attained by adapting the transmission rates to the reported CSI. In addition, to combat frequency selective fadings in wideband wireless channels, bit-interleaved coded OFDM(BIC-OFDM) modulation schemes are employed to provide reliable packet delivery by utilizing frequency diversity through channel coding. In this paper, we propose an adaptive modulation and coding(AMC) scheme combined with an opportunistic scheduling technique for the MIMO BIC-OFDM with bandwidth-limited feedback channels. The proposed scheme enhances the link performance by exploiting both the frequency diversity and the multiuser diversity. To reduce the feedback information, the proposed AMC scheme employs rate adaptation methods based on an OFDM symbol rather than on the whole subchannels. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme exhibits a substantial performance gain with a reasonable complexity over single antenna systems.

OFDM Systems for multi-user use adaptive modulation and ending (AMC) which is a method that selects suitable modulation order and code rate depending on channel state of each user. Using AMC, OFDM system can provide high quality and reliable communication. Base station using AMC scheme requires downlink channel information of each terminal to operate optimality. However, under practical system environment, it is unsuitable to transmit all channel information because uplink bandwidth of the system is limited. In this paper, we propose a flexible block-wise loading (FBL) algorithm combined with a novel CQI feedback scheme with reduced number of required bits to optimize the performance of AMC system. Proposed algorithm allocates sub-carrier groups dynamically to improve the sector throughput and outage probability performance.

In MANET, AODV(Ad hoc On-demand Distance Vector) has its advantages as on-demand approach but it also has a disadvantage that the control packet overhead is high compared to other routing protocols. This paper improves the problem caused by Hello messages that are broadcasted periodically to detect the local connectivity and maintain neighbor list. Periodic hello messages reduce the Packet delivery ratio and the efficiency in the limited bandwidth. And its increased Control packet overhead leads to decrease the Residual battery capacity and the Network lifetime. Further, non-reactive nature of periodic hello messages in AODV has also been the source of numerous controversies. In order to solve these problems, this paper improves the performance by using the interrupt driven approach which removes periodic hello messages and decreases the Control packet overhead. Performance comparisons between the traditional AODV and proposed mod_AODV done with network simulator QualNet 5.0 show that the mod_AODV performs better in most performance metrics under scenarios with various values of simulation parameters.

The global trends of mobile communication system is moving toward digitizing, high-speed and large-capacity. Also, to utilize the limited frequency-resource efficiently, spread spectrum system is a mainstream. In this study we are concerning with the fast frequency-hopping system. Instead of the PLL with many problems such as phase-noise, we used the DDS is popular in these days minimizes the disadvantage of PLL. In the case the FFH system is designed using the PLL, it is difficult to be satisfied of the design conditions such as RF badwidth and the settling time of PLL, and it has limitation because of complex circuit by using the balanced modulator. In this study, we evaluated the performance in order to design the FFH system using the DDS. The system that has the improvement of error rate, 1Mhps hopping rate and 5MHz RF bandwidth is designed and evaluated.

The increasing number of wireless subscribers who can use internet service any time and any place have caused wireless communications networks to flourish. However, since total communication channel bandwidth for wireless communications is limited, it is very important to find the solution for maximizing the channel utilization. Thus, in this work we propose a QoS packet scheduler for IEEE 802.11e EDCA scheme which is able to maximize the channel throughput with changing the CW value considering wireless channel condition. This proposed scheme is evaluated with NS-2 network simulator under various environments and it is easily shown from the numerical results that the proposed scheme provides better performance than that of the original IEEE 802.11e scheme.

The explosion of the Internet has brought an acute need for efficient operation, which becomes to develop several technologies based on optical networks. By matching merging technology using wavelength multiplexing, an efficient administration with limited wavelength can provide scalability of network. The merging in optical layer has limitation of devices since the merging can not be performed in this layer. Hence the merging must be implemented in electronic layer. When the merging is implemented, the delay time would be increased in OXC (Optical Cross Connection), but the improvement of throughput rate will be expected in the process of explosive traffic due to reduction of optical channel supporting large bandwidth. In this thesis, we proposed an OXC of dual module having a merging function. We considered the optimum merging point with the largest in system performance and confirmed results using the simulation.

This paper proposes a simple and highly effective RACMC(Real-time ATM Cell Monitoring and Control) algorithm and the resulting bandwidth gain effects art considered. RACMC algorithm performs usage parameter controls according to the monitoring informations of input data cells generated from the accepted connections and the controlling informations set by the M/P(Management Plane) for that connection. The results of monitoring and controlling actions for ATM data cells are transmitted to the M/P and the control parameters in lookup table are updated according to the condition of currently used bandwith. Therefore, the proposed algorithm can allocate network resource optimally and solve the several tantalizing problems that the existing cell control algorithm have, that is, the difficulty in controlling as monitoring very bursty traffics, unavoidable processing delay, and limited input buffer size when implemented. By the performance analysis using computer simulation, RACMC algorithm proves to be very effective especially in ATM network as implemented simply.

Satellite communication is a wide area network (WAN) which provides communication service worldwide. However, the performance of TCP can be seriously degraded in the satellite networks due to limited bandwidth, long round-trip time (RTT) and high bit error rate (BER) over satellite links. In order to improve the performance of TCP, this paper proposes cross-layer Performance Enhancing Proxy (PEP) in digital video broadcasting-return channel via satellite (DVB-RCS) networks. The proposed protocol sets TCP Congestion Window (CWND) size by using satellite resource allocation information exchanged between TCP and the link-layer. we implement PEP testbed based on Linux to evaluate the performance of the proposed protocol. The simulation results show that the proposed protocol performs better than standard TCP both in single and multiple sessions in variant BER, because the proposed protocol sets TCP CWND size by using satellite resource allocation.
