  • A transient natural circulation behavior during a LOCA at hot-standby operation is evaluated for YGN Units 3/4. The plant initial condition is determined within the EOP limitation as suitable to hot-standby mode and the transient scenario is prepared as relevant to evaluation of transient natural circulation. A 0.4% cold leg break with loss of off-site power is calculated with RELAP5/MOD3.2, whose predictability has been verified for SBLOCA natural circulation test, S-NC-8B. Through one hour transient analysis, it is found that the plant has its own decay heat removal capability by natural circulation following a LOCA, at hot-standby mode. Additional calculation is performed to investigate an effect of HPSI flow on natural circulation.

  • Activation energy asymptotics (AEA) for Linan#s premixed-flame regime is revisited in this paper. First, the detailed AEA procedure for the premixed-flame regime is demonstrated, so that the practitioners of AEA could easily apply the method to their own problems. In addition, the controversies surrounding the premixed-flame regime, namely the closure controversy and fast-time instability paradox, are explained. Finally, the limitation of AEA, mainly arising from the wrong prediction of fuel leakage through the reaction zone, is examined and the Zel#dovich-Linan kinetics is introduced as an alternative to meet the needs of modern combustion analysis, where the detailed chemical structure of flame is demanded.

  • Acute cyanide poisoning is usually the result of attempted suicide which is often lethal within minutes or leads to a very poor prognosis after delayed and inadequate treatment. It affects the cerebral structures with the highest oxygen requirement, such as the basal ganglia, the cerebral cortex. We experienced a-45-year-old man who ingested Potassium Cyanide. He was stuporous. In 25 minutes, respiratory arrest developed and cardiopulmonary resuscitation was done. After return of spontaneous circulation, he admitted to intensive care unit, and conservative treatment was started. The clinical status was improved by degrees, but he couldn't perform daily activity like before. Minimal limitation of movement and memory deficit were left. In magnetic resonance imaging, which taken at the 11th day after admission, there were both basal ganglia and folia of cerebellum abnormality.

  • The propulsion of a ship is generally generated by the propeller motion. When we consider the importance of the acoustic noise of a ship, the epochal noiseless magnetohydrodynamic(MHD) propulsion system is studying now because the noise reduction of propeller has it's own limitation. This paper describes the characteristic analysis, theoretical analysis and efficiency versus thrust characteristics of MHD prolulsion system. When we generate 1 Tesla using normal conductor magnet, the efficiency is lower than 10 percent. It is essential to use superconducting magnet in order to increase the useful efficiency up to 50%. The validity of MHD propulsion system can be confirmed by analyzing other countries model test result.

  • In this paper, we introduce the 22.9kv by-pass cable machinery being developed. This machinery is so desinged as to solve many problems of the conventional one such as the limitation of usage, working space, route length etc. It is, so to speak, one touch-one system. Compared with the conventional system, this has several advantages, which are the cost down, the decreasing working time and space, and the multiusage etc.

  • Currently available evaluation checklists are developed for specific purposed using different parameters and items determined by different weighting factors. Those items with different weighting are sometimes said that they are based on the engineering judgement and leap of faith and, therefore, there is a limitation to adapt those checklists for slope-stability evaluation in the field. This study reviews factors affecting Rock-slope stability, analyze the relationship between those factors and slope failures using artificial neural network, and proposed a slope-stability evaluation model for adequate weighting for the factors.

  • To overcome the limitation of E. coli expression system such as inclusion body formation and disulfide bond failure, we tried to express the heterologous protein as a secreted form. We adopted agarase signal peptide (ASP; 23 amino acid residues) from Agarivorans albus YKW-34 which is one of marine bacteia. When we used ASP to express $\beta$-agarase, about 42% activity was detected in media.

  • The solitary osteochondroma is a hamartoma of the skeleton which derives from an aberrant subperiosteal germ of the fertile cartilage. Osteochondromas, which are uncommon in the hand can occur at the distal end of the proximal and middle phalanx away from the epiphyseal plate region. We experienced a rare case of solitary osteochondroma arising from distal end of fifth proximal phalanx of hand, and limiting the active motion of proximal interphalangeal joint. The patient was treated by marginal excision and tumor showed characteristic microscopic findings of osteochondroma.

  • This paper presents a technique for an Android mobile device to best utilize its surrounding external display device such as high-definition TV, in order to overcome the size and resolution limitation of the small LCD in the mobile device. Unlike current techniques that simply expand the LCD screen image to an external large display, our technique dynamically changes the resolution adapting to capability of the external display. And, the original screen become a remote controller.

  • Radioelement ratios are useful for mapping subtle variations in radiometric signatures in map data. But the conventional method for calculating radioelement ratios has the significant limitation that if just one of the radioelements comprising the ratio has a small spread of concentration estimates relative to its mean, then it will not contribute significantly to the ratio map. However, if both the numerator and denominator are first normalised to approximately the same mean and spread prior to ratioing, then they will contribute equally to the enhancement of the differences between them across the map area.
