Nowadays, the blast method is mainly operated in the fields of the rock excavation accompanied by construction site in Korea. Blast method has many merits such as improvement of workability, reducement of operation period, and etc. However, blast operation also create much loss and troubles with the neighbours for the environmental pollutions such as the noise, blast vibration, fly rocks and dusts. Thus, the non-vibration and shallow vibration methods have been used but they have also another problems in the view of the economy and the efficiency in operation. In this study, we had made laboratory tests for the breaking of the various Rock types by White Light Thermal Stress. The tests shows that one unit consuming 500kilowatts of electricity, would go 90 feet a day in tunneling if the tunnel was 16 feet by 16 feet. Also, if a faster rate of tunneling could be handled, other white light units could be added.

Sapphire single crystals have been highlighted for epitaxial of gallium nitride films in high-power laser and light emitting diode industries. Among the many crystal growth methods, vertical Bridgman process is an excellent commercial method for growing high quality sapphire crystals with c-axis. In this study, the thermally induced stress in Sapphire during the vertical Bridgman crystal growth process was investigated using a finite element model. A vertical Bridgman process of 2-inch Sapphire was considered for the model. The effects of vertical and transverse temperature gradients on the thermal stress during the process were discussed based on the finite element analysis results.
During laser irradiation, mechanically deformed cartilage undergoes a temperature dependent phase transformation resulting in accelerated stress relaxation. Clinically, laser-assisted cartilage reshaping may be used to recreate the underlying cartilaginous framework in structures such as ear, larynx, trachea, and nose. Therefore, research and identification of the biophysical transformations in cartilage accompanying laser heating are valuable to identify critical laser dosimetry and phase transformation of cartilage for many clinical applications. quasi-elastic light scattering was investigated using Ho : YAG laser $(\lambda=2.12{\mu}m\;;\;t_p\sim450{\mu}s)$ and Nd:YAG Laser $(\lambda=1.32{\mu}m\;;\;t_p\sim700{\mu}s)$ for heating sources and He : Ne $(\lambda=632.8nm)$ laser, high-power diode pumped laser $(\lambda=532nm)$, and Ti : $Al_2O_3$ femtosecond laser $(\lambda=850nm)$ for light scattering sources. A spectrometer and infrared radiometric sensor were used to monitor the backscattered light spectrum and transient temperature changes from cartilage following laser irradiation. Analysis of the optical, thermal, and quasi-elastic light scattering properties may indicate internal dynamics of proteoglycan movement within the cartilage framework during laser irradiation.

The ceramic has such high qualities as light weight, abrasion resistance, heat resistance compared with metal, but since it is breakable, it can't be used as structural material and it is desirable to joining metal which is full of toughness, but, according as the ceramic/metal joint is executed at high temperature, the joint residual stress develops near the joint sides in the process of cooling the high temperature down to the suitable temperature due to difference of the thermal expansion coefficient between ceramic and metal, and the joint residualstress lowers the fracture strength. In this study, to ensure security and improvement of bending strength, 1 studies on see distribution shape of residual stress according to high thermal cycle, and the influnence of theraml cycle and distribution shape of residual stess on joint-strength.

Manifold could apply stainless steel with light weight and durability to improve fuel efficiency at automotive industry. This study is analyzed and compared by heat transfer and deformation according to the materials of cast iron and stainless steel. The heat transfer at manifold of cast iron at the distribution of heat temperature is more than that of stainless steel. But the value of maximum heat deformation in case of stainless steel is 1.5 times as great as that in case of cast iron. The value of maximum heat equivalent stress in case of stainless steel is 2.7 times as great as that in case of cast iron. This maximum stress at manifold is shown at the part assembled with engine body.

The sapphire wafers for blue light emitting devices were manufactured by the implementation of the surface machining technology based on micro-tribology. This process has been performed by grinding, lapping and polishing. The surfaces of sapphire wafers were mechanically affected by residual stress and surface default. This mechanical stress and strain can be cured by thermal anneal ing process. The sapphire crystalline wafers were annealed at $1100~1400^{\circ}C$ and then characterized by double crystal X-ray diffraction. The sample showed good quality of crystalline wafer surface wi th full width at hal f maximum of 16 arcsec for the 4-hour heat-treatment at $1300^{\circ}C$.
The light guide plate of the TFT-LCD reflects the light originated from the light source, and guides the light to the front side of LCD so that we can see images vividly. This paper is concerned with tile injection molding of the light guide plate for the reflective typed LCD related to IMT-2000. The finite element analysis has been carried out based on the pine stress theory to predict both the thermal stresses of the products in the post-filling stage and the in-plane deformation behavior of the products after ejection process. Based on the simulation results, the mold for the light guide plate of a 2inch sized LCD has been designed.
Mechanical energy is accumulated in the object when stress is exerted on rock specimens, and the failure is occurred when the stress is larger than critical stress. The accumulated energy is emitted as various forms including physical deformation, light, heat and sound. Uniaxial compression strength test and point load strength test were carried out in low temperature environment, and thermal variation of rock specimens were observed and analyzed quantitatively using thermal infrared camera images. Temperature of failure plane was increased just before the failure because of concentration of stress, and was rapidly increased at the moment of the failure because of the emission of thermal energy. The variations of temperature were larger in diorite and basalt specimens which were strong and fresh than in tuff specimens which were weak and weathered. This study can be applied to prevent disasters in rock slope, tunnel and mine in cold regions and to analyze satellite image for predicting earthquake in cold regions.
This study was performed to investigate the effec% of immersion in water and thermal cycling on the mechanical peoperties of light cured restorative composite resins. Five commerically available light-cured composite resins(Photo Clearfil A : CA, Lite-Fil A . LF, Clearril Photo Posterior CP, Prisms AP.H.. PA, 2100 : ZH) were unto The specimens of 12 m in diameter and 0.7 m in thickness were made, and an immersion in $37^{\circ}C$ water for 7 days and a thermal cycling of 1000 cycles at 15 second dwell time each in $5^{\circ}C$ and $55^{\circ}C$ baths were performed. Biaxial flexure test was conducted using the ball-on-three-ball method at the crosshead speed of 0.5mm/min. In order to investigate the deterioration of composite resins during the thermal cycling test, Weibull analysis for the biaxial flexure strengths was done. Fracture surfaces and the surfaces before and after the thermal cycling test were examined by SEM. The highest Weibull modulus value of 10.09 after thermal cycling tests which means the lowest strength variation, was observed in the CP group, and the lowest value of 4.47 was obsered in the LF Group. Biaxial flexure strengths and Knoop hardness numbers significantly decreased due to the thermal cycling ($\textit{p}$< 0.01), however, they recovered when specimens were drie4 The highest biaxial flexure strength of 125.65MPa was observed in the ZH group after the thermal cycling test, and the lowest value of 64.86MPa was observed in the CA group. Biaxial flexure strengths of ZH and CP groups were higher than those of PA, CF, and CA groups after thermal cycling test($\textit{p}$< 0.05). Knoop hardness numbers of CP group after the thermal cycling test was the highest(95.47 $\pm$ 7.35kg/$mm^2$) among the samples, while that of CA group was the lowest(30.73 $\pm$ 2.58kg/$mm^2$). Knoop hardness numbers showed the significant differences between the CP group and others after the thermal cycling test(($\textit{p}$< 0.05). Fracture surfaces showed that the composite resin failure developed along the matrix resin and the filler/resin interface region, and the cracks propagated in the conical shape from the maximum tensile stress zone.
In this study, the model A with the existing shape used at racing car and the model B with light weight were designed. The structural analysis with thermal deformation and stress were carried out. Model A shows that the maximum temperature is lower than model B. The cooling performance due to the shape of the disk without any other cooling conditions can be shown to be better for model A. Model A was seen to be superior in durability as the thermal stress reduced by almost twice as much as model B. The part where the greatest stress occurred appeared to be the hole jointed with the hub regardless of its shape. The analysis results at this study are seen to be useful at designing the shape of the actual vehicle brake disc. The analysis results obtained in this study can be applied at grasping the strength of the brake disk for racing car practically. By utilizing the analysis result of the brake disk for racing car, this study is seen as the convergence study that the aesthetic design and analysis are applied.
