Enhancement in quantum noise correlation between the two outputs of a nondegenerate optical amplifier with a non-vacuum state idler input

  • The theoretical limit of the noise correlation between the signal and idler outputs of a nondegenerate optical parametric amplifier (NOPA) with a coherent state signal and vacuum state idler input can be enhanced if a non-vacuum coherent state idler input is employed. By choosing a balanced signal and idler input, the noise correlation is $1/{({\root}g + {\root}{g-1})}^2$, where g is the intensity gain of the NOPA, and that is superior to the prediced outputs with single signal input by approximately 3dB. The result is applicable to all the schemes that use the NOPA to produce a sub-shot noise light generation such as feed-back or feed-forward control.

  • In this paper, we introduce a differential detector that automatically aligns itself to the signal beam in order to prevent the voltage variation that may result from minute misalignment of the light source. In this system, a photodiode-array recognizes the central point of the signal beam, and drives motors that correspond to the x and y axes. The photodiode-array aligns itself to the central point of the signal beam, and eliminates the optical noise effect with differential detectioin method. It is very useful in wireless optical interconnections.

  • Up to the present studies of the car number recognition system, it is generally known to have serious problems such as relatively long processing time due to the excessive length of data extracted from the number plate based on the current image characteristics, and the image blurring with the physical damage of the brightness and darkness signals of the number plate caused by external impulses with many difficulties in the extraction of the highlighted numbers. In this Paper we used the characteristics firstly having a constant brightness of number plate, and a high density to the horizontal axis, and the influences of highlighted signal could be reduced by making reflections less through the polarized filter on the camera for any highlighted signal. For the more, the data processing time and the noise reduction are effectively implemented by using the wavelet transform of time-space scale with the considerations on the physical loss and processing time.

  • In this paper we investigated the method of examining the accelerated life test on LED traffic signal module by the temperature. The longevity presumption of the LED type signal light by a general heat cycle test used and executed cycle when it was done to longevity by the heat cycle test number and the acceleration factor of a real system requirements of this heat cycle test. Therefore, it reports on the introduction of the acceleration type from which the LED traffic signal module is done here to clarify the above-mentioned acceleration factor with the object and the acceleration factor is requested the test atmosphere actually in the system requirements.

  • In this paper, the monitoring system was developed measuring the light signal emitted from the plasma in aluminum laser welding. Spectrum of plasma was measured using a spectrometer, and the photodiode was selected based on the spectrum analysis. The sensor signals for various welding conditions could be obtained, the characteristic of signal was closely related to the intensity and stability of plasma through mean value of signal and FFT analysis. The reason of signal fluctuation was behavior of plasma and keyhole and it was also connected with the surface bead shape of weld.

  • This study is aimed at investigating drivers' reactions to yellow signal dilemma situations as a result of the existing signal system, and developing a new signal system. A driver-centered coping model was developed through bio-signal analysis. The driver's physiological response in the existing signal system was observed, and the signal system was developed by applying intersection road driving conditions using a car graphic simulator. Participants were classified into a control group (existing signal system) and an experimental group for a new yellow signal system (new signal system). Based on the results, the emergence of parasympathetic nerves was higher in the experimental group than in the control group, where a statistically significant difference was observed (p < 0.05). The newly developed signal system appeared to cause tension among drivers; however, the sympathetic to parasympathetic nerve ratio was 6: 4, which could be interpreted as an ideal balance. We conclude that drivers can drive more stably if the coping signal system developed in this study is applied to the traffic system.

  • In this paper, we studied the OCT(Optical Coherence Tomography) system which it has been extensively studied because of having some advantages such as high resolution cross-sectional images, low cost, and small size configuration. A basic principle of OCT system is Michelson interferometer. The characteristics of light source determine the resolution and the transmission depth. As a results, the light source have a commercial SLD with a central wavelength of 1,285 nm and FWHM(Full Width at Half Maximum) of 35.3 nm. The optical delay line part is necessary to equal of the optical path length with scattered light or reflected light from sample. In order to equal the optical path length, the stage which is attached to reference mirror is moved linearly by step motor And the interferometer is configured with the Michelson interferometer using single mod fiber, the scanner can be focused of the sample by using the reference arm. Also, the 2-dimensional cross-sectional images were measured with scanning the transverse direction of the sample by using step motor. After detecting the internal signal of lateral direction at a paint of sample, scanner is moved to obtain the cross-sectional image of 2-demensional by using step motor. Photodiode has been used which has high detection sensitivity, excellent noise characteristic, and dynamic range from 800 nm to 1,700 nm. It is detected mixed small signal between noise and interference signal with high frequency After filtering and amplifying this signal, only envelope curve of interference signal is detected. And then, cross-sectional image is shown through converting this signal into digitalized signal using A/D converter. The resolution of the OCT system is about 30$\mu\textrm{m}$ which corresponds to the theoretical resolution. Also, the cross-sectional image of ping-pong ball is measured. The OCT system is configured with Michelson interferometer which has a low contrast because of reducing the power of feedback interference light. Such a problem is overcomed by using the improved inteferometer. Also, in order to obtain the cross-sectional image within a short time, it is necessary to reduce the measurement time for improving the optical delay line.

  • Scanning white-light interferometry is an important measurement option for many surfaces. However, serious profile measurement errors can be present when measuring free-form surfaces being highly curved or tilted. When the object surface slope is not zero, the object and reference rays are no longer common path and optical aberrations impact the measurement. Aberrations mainly occur at the beam splitter in the interference objective and from misalignment in the optical system. Both effects distort the white-light interference signal when the surface slope is not zero. In this paper, we describe a modified version of white-light interferometry for eliminating these measurement errors and improving the accuracy of white-light interferometry. Moreover, we report systematic errors that are caused by optical aberrations when the object is not flat, and compare our proposed method with the conventional processing algorithm using the random ball test.

Dimming Control Method in a Flicker-Free Byte-Inversion Visible Light Communication System (플리커 방지를 위한 바이트반전 가시광통신 시스템에서 조명 제어 방법)

  • In this paper, we introduce a new dimming control method in a visible light communication (VLC) system wherein byteinversion is adopted for flicker-free transmission. In the VLC transmitter, the original and the inverted data were sent sequentially and the remnant time in one period was used for the dimming control of the LED light. In the VLC receiver, only the original data was recovered using the gating signal whose width was the same as the length of the original data. In our experiments, the dimming control ranges were measured to be 22%-53%, 11%-76%, and 5%-88% of the CW LED light when the data rates were 9.6, 19.2, and 38.4 kbps, respectively. In this system, we used a 240-Hz sync pulse whose period was 4.16 ms, which was shorter than the maximum flickering time period of 5 ms that is generally considered to be safe. This configuration is very simple and useful in constructing indoor wireless sensor networks using the flicker-free LED lamps with dimming control capability.

  • Plant phytochromes, molecular light switches that regulate various aspects of plant growth and development, are known as autophosphorylating serine/threonine kinases. Although recent studies reveal that phytochrome autophosphorylation plays an important role in the regulation of phytochrome signaling through the control of phyA protein stability, the in vivo functional roles of phytochrome kinase activity in plant light signaling are largely unknown. Thus, it is necessary to investigate the detailed function of phytochrome as a protein kinase, which might include mapping of kinase domain on the phytochrome molecule, searching for substrates that could be phosphorylated by phyA, and in vivo functional analysis of the kinase activity with phytochrome mutants displaying reduced kinase activity. Our recent studies reveal that the kinase activity of phytochrome plays a positive role in plant light signaling. Therefore, we highlight the current knowledge about the functional roles of phytochrome kinase activity in the light signal transduction of plants, based on our recent results.
