This study was carried out to solve problems such as radio frequency band depletion, confusion risk, and security loss in existing visible wireless communication systems, and to determine the applicability of next-generation networks. A light-emitting diode (LED) light communication system was implemented with a controlling switching light module using the ATmega16 micro-controller. To solve the existing modulation effect and disturbance in visible light communication, an integrated interface was evaluated with a driving light module and analyzes its reception property. A transmitter/receiver using the ATmel's micro-controller, high-intensity white LED-6 modules, and infrared sensor KSM60WLM and visible sensor TSL250RD were designed. An experiment from the initial value of distance to 2.5 m showed 0.46 V of the voltage loss, and if in long distance, external light interference occurred and light intensity was lost by external impact and thus data had to be modified or reset repeatedly. Additionally, when we used 6 modules through the remote controller's lighting dimming, data could be transmitted up to 1.76 m without any errors during the day and up to 2.29 m at night with around 2~3% communication error. If a special optical filter can reduce as much external light as possible in the integrated interface, the LED for lighting communication systems may be applied in next generation networks.
We present a fast-switching electro-optical device based on flexoelectro-optic effect in short pitch cholesterics oriented in uniform lying helix texture. The device has two operating modes: amplitude and phase modulation mode. The amplitude modulation mode is a fast in-plane switching of the device optic axis that enables to achieve a high percent of modulation of the transmitted light intensity whereas the phase mode gives a continuous change of the refractive index and thus of the phase shift of the transmitted light. By using a small concentration of diacrylate monomer and selecting the illumination conditions we have been able to create a inhomogeneous polymeric network mostly localized at both substrate surfaces and stabilize the two switching modes.
We present a novel bandwidth measurement scheme for multimode optical fibers. Amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) radiation was utilized for a source of intrinsically modulated light with a wide modulation bandwidth. In our measurement scheme, the continuous-wave (CW) ASE light that passed through a multimode fiber (MMF) under test was analyzed by the fourth-order power with a high-speed photodetector and an electric spectrum analyzer. The modulation transfer function of the multimode fiber could be directly measured with the photoelectric spectra in the modulation frequency domain. The measurement result of our method was experimentally compared to that of the conventional measurement scheme based on the impulse response measurement. It has been found that our scheme provides a stable measurement means of MMF characterization that is suitable for the field testing due to the simplicity of the system.
Visible light communications (VLC) using the intensity modulation of light-emitting diodes (LEDs) provides a new communication medium to overcome the shortage of radio spectrum, and allows reuse of LED lighting infrastructures. Orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) was introduced to VLC for its merits in mitigating the fading effects resulting from delay spread, and in avoiding low-frequency ambient interference. Noise and clipping are two major factors that degrade the performance of OFDM in VLC. A larger signal easily overcomes noise, but experiences impairment by clipping. Therefore, degradation due to clipping has a trade-off relationship with that due to noise, depending on the signal amplitude of OFDM. In this paper, the optimal signal amplitude in the trade-off is obtained by simulation when the dimming and LED intensity are given. The former indicates a user's requirement for lighting, and the latter represents the channel quality. The required LED intensity-to-noise ratio, as the channel quality that guarantees dimming as well as an adequate bit-error rate (BER), is also discussed.
We developed the equipment palpating cell proliferation using a high brightness LED. This equipment was fabricated using a micro-controller and a high brightness LED, and designed to enable us to control light irradiation time, intensity, frequency and so on. Especially, to control the light irradiation frequency, FPGA was used, and to control the change of output value, TLC5941 was used. Control stage is divided into 30 levels by program. Consequently, the current value could be controlled by the change of level in Continue Wave(CW) and Pulse Width Modulation(PWM), and the output of a high brightness LED could be controlled stage by stage.

And then, each experiment was performed to irradiation group and non-irradiation group for bone marrow cells. MIT assay method was chosen to verify the cell increase of two groups and the effect of irradiation on cell proliferation was examined by measuring 590nm transmittance of ELISA reader. As a result, the cell increase of bone marrow cells was verified in irradiation group as compared to non-irradiation group.
This System is developed for the estimation of the Camera Lens Resolution. Signal data proportional to light intensity is obtained and sampled from the 2D CCD. Based on the measured signal. the MTF charateristcs of a camera lens are measured. We could measure the sagittal and tangential MTF in the on and off-axis at the same time. The automatic measurig methods for optimal image plane, magnification, and best marginal direction of test lens are presented.
