  • The service running of driverless rail vehicle has been required by various social and commercial issue. Currently, the new domestic line between Bu-san and Gim-hae is plan to be provided the LRV(Light Rail Vehicle) with driverless operation firstly in domestic service. These driverless vehicle have some major properties to make it lower the operating and maintenance cost, however on the other side, it unavoidably raise some potential hazard to make it lower the passenger safety because it is hard to take care immediately in emergency state during vehicle running. Therefore it is highly requested that we should consider various conditions at design stage to manufacture and operate the safest vehicle. Therefore, in this paper, we will survey the design concept of vehicle interior facilities based on the previous experience, (1) The difference of interior facilities between normal and driverless vehicle, (2) design and operational concept of passenger side door function to find out best application for domestic line driverless vehicle.

  • The purpose of this research is to understand and explore the view of the current architectural and interior design approach through Critical Regionalism created as one of the movements opposed to Contemporary. Critical Regionalism as a critical view about the contemporary architecture is based on integrated critical thinking toward a built environment surrounded by regional facts such as natural environment, materials, light, weather, unique culture where exist the specific places. The architectural themes of Critical Regionalism based on Kenneth Frampton's view and interpretation about contemporary architecture can be understood as follows; the concept of the place, tectonics, expression by abstraction and phenomenologlcal interpretation. Critical Regionalism has two distinctive features, which are the connection to the Contemporary and critical aspects to develop processes of an architectural design.

  • There has been preconceived assumption that, in good architecture, exterior and interior have to be harmoniously related to each other. However, in contemporary architecture, it is easy to witness that this harmonious relationship between exterior and intoner is severely challenged and various exterior surfaces have multi-faceted roles. Rem Koolhaas explained this sort of new situation in the light of 'lobotomy' that is a surgical method for mental disorders, based on the high-rise buildings in the early Manhattan. This study is started with the Rem Koolhaas' lobotomy concept and how this concept is applied to his projects. The multiple roles of exterior surface can be also found in many contemporary architects' projects. Among them, Jacques Herzog & Pierre do Neuron and Toyo Ito's recent projects are discussed to further analyze the new roles of surface and compared with Rem Koolhaas' case. Although the architects discussed present very limited scope of what is happening on the surface of comtemporary architecture, it is hoped to disclose some examples of new relationship between exterior and interior.

  • In this paper I will try to analyze some studies about the ‘Postmodern Family’in Western countries. I will try to find out, above all in Western countries, how much the concepts “Plurality”, “Individuality”, “Deinstitutionalisation”, “Relation”and “Postmodernism” are linked to each other. Also the ‘Postmodern Ftmily’concept is an interesting topic for the understanding of the recent changes and in future in the Korean family. In this paper I will try to explain the Korean family change with the concept and phenomenon ‘Postmodern Family’. The discussion about the ‘Postmodern Family’will provide much stimulus for the Korean family research area. Also this discussion about ‘Postmodern Family’for the recent Korean family research will be an important attempt to give a new light in studying the Korean modem family.

  • New concept of energy recovery for plasma display panel (PDP) Is proposed. Different from conventional LC resonant sustaining drivers, the current built up before inverting the polarity of the panel electrodes is utilized to change the panel Polarity together with energy Previously charged in Panel capacitance. This operation Provides zero -voltage-switching of switches and reduction of EMI by rejecting the surge current when the sustain switches are turned on. The build-up current helps to reduce transition time of panel polarity and may produce more stable light waveforms. This method shows a desirable characteristic that the circuit loss is similar to that of series resonant type energy recovery circuit which is very effective method.

  • When disasters happen specially in islands, we have a lot of problems of 'managing many workers and heavy equipments because of bad weather', 'being hard to offer, transport and install container-houses as temporary housing', 'being hard to store and use again after disassembling', too. More serious problems come from bad conditions that more and more people leave the islands and only old people live there, moreover, islands get easy to be isolated by inclement weather. So the purpose of this research is to develop and design emergency housing for sufferers which is light, efficient to be stored, easy to transport and build in disasters by resolving such problems, after rethinking the concept of temporary housing. Also, this research intends to suggest the concept of 'emergency housing'. The process of this research includes selection of architectural materials, experiments, constructional simulation, design and building test.

  • The concept of a microplasma current switch for a device operated in a current mode like organic light-emitting diodes, which features matrix addressability and current switching, is presented as well as its architecture and operational principle. To verify the concept, we have fabricated a 100 mm ${\times}$ 100 mm microplasma current switch panel with a cell pitch of $1080{\mu}m{\times}1080{\mu}m$. Moreover, the current-voltage measurements of the unit cell are performed for three different driving voltage amplitudes. They show the characteristic of an asymmetric floating double probe diagnosing plasmas.

  • Rockey slopes adjacent to railways are disclosed from severe weathering and hazard of failure of themselves. Consequently it causes directly rockfall or landsliding on the railway. Conventional solutions-rigid system like rocksheds, shotcrete, retaining walls, etc to these causes are limited to protect train, rail, our properties and lives from the harmful attack - rockfall. debris flow and sliding. Flexible concept for solutions with passive and active type method based on Euro Code 7 capable of high energy absorption and light materials are rapidly replacing the rigid systems with natural friendly, early installation, cost and time saving and reducing danger in works all over the world.

  • This work aims at the design of the artwork for the atrium of a furniture department store. In complying with the request of the building owner I have established the basic concept, 'silence in movement - movement in silence', to design a artwork, which not only can make the various atmospheres in the store to the unique one, but also arrange an emotional stability for the visitors. Most exhibited furnitures are those that demand particular interests from the visitors, and the exhibition scale is enormous. So it is difficult to sustain the continuous inspiration and the emotional stability, and also it is hard to make the store have the consequent image. This problem can be resolved through the installation of the artwork that can evoke the visitor to the abundant sensitive receivability. The materials, which are used tp express the basic concept, are water, concrete, light and aluminium that represent a unified harmony in a contrast each other.

  • The CCDs are widely used in astronomical observations either in direct imaging use or spectroscopic mode. However, the areas of available sensors are too small for large imaging format. One possibility to obtain large detection area is to assemble mosaics of CCD, and drive them simultaneously. Parallel driving of many CCDs together rules out the possibility of individual tuning; however, such optimisation is very important, when the ultimate low light level performance is required, particularly for new, or mixed devices. In this work, a new concept is explored for an entirely novel approach, where the drive waveforms are multiplexed and interleaved. This simultaneously reduces the number of leadout connections and permits individual optimisation efficiently. The digital controller can be designed within a single EPLD (Erasable Programmable Logic Device) chip produced by a CAD software package, where most of the digital controller circuits are integrated. This method can minimise the component. count., and improve the system efficiency greatly, based on earlier works by Han et a1. (1996, 1994). The system software has an open architecture to permit convenient modification by the user, to fit their specific purposes. Some variable system control parameters can be selected by a user with a wider range of choice. The digital controller design concept allows great flexibility of system parameters by the software, specifically for the compatibility to deal with any number of mixed CCDs, and in any format, within the practical limit.
