In this paper, we proposed an optimal design for determining the shape of a lifting lug freely by applying a multivariate function to the D-type lug, which is commonly used in shipyards. We derived the optimal aspect ratio of the lug through structural analysis and analyzed the safety and behavior of the lug aspect ratio. As a result, two types of final candidates, both lighter than the existing lug weight, were suitable for the ratio. They were found to have the greatest force at an angle of 45 degrees when a load of 100 tons was imposed. When the horizontal and vertical feature ratio of the lug was 1:3, it showed excellent results in terms of safety rates while maintaining weight reduction and functional aspects.

The dynamic behavior characteristics of a small fishing crane for inshore and coastal fishing vessels was experimentally analyzed in order to improve the fishing operation and to reduce considerably manual work of fisherman. The small fishing crane was designed to be controlled electro-hydraulically by means of proportional valves and solenoid valves, and also to be controlled the speed of each operation. The dynamic behavior characteristics was investigated by measuring the changes of parameters such as oil pressure, swing angle of load, load tension, the lifting angle and the swing angle of crane arm when the arms extended in a side way was given a test load. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. The designed small fishing crane can be proportionally controlled by means of proportional valves and rapidly by operating the solenoid valves, respectively. The capacity, turning angle, maximum reach of crane were 2 T-M, $180^\circ$, 3.7m, respectively. 2. The vertical change of crane arm on the extension of lifting cylinder was $1.2^\circ$/cm, and the swing speed of crane arm due to the extension of swing cylinder by on/off operations of solenoid valves was $15^\circ$/sec, with the swing period of 1.4 sec and the angle fluctuation of $\pm$11.0$^{\circ}$. 3. When changing simultaneously the horizontal and vertical positions of the lifting load by on/off operations of solenoid valves, the swing and lifting speeds of crane arm were $4.46^\circ$/sec and $6.4^\circ$/sec, respectively. 4. The movements of the designed crane were particularly smooth as they are controlled with the aid of proportional valves than by means of solenoid valves.

Unsteady aerodynamic analysis of an aircraft is done using a frequency domian 3-D panel method. The method is based on an unsteady linear compressible lifting surface theory. The lifting surface is placed in a flight patch, and angle of attack and camber effects are implemented in upwash. Fuselage effects are not considered. The unsteady solutions of the code are validated by comparing with the solutions of a hybrid doublet lattice-doublet point method and a doublet point method for various wing configurations at subsonic and supersonic flow conditions. The calculated results of dynamic stability derivatives for aircraft are shown without comparision due to lack of available measured data or calculated results.

Monitoring crane motion in real time is the first step to identifying and mitigating crane-related hazards on construction sites. However, no accurate and reliable crane motion capturing technique is available to serve this purpose. The objective of this research is to explore a method for real-time crane motion capturing and investigate an approach for assisting hazard detection. To achieve this goal, this research employed various techniques including: 1) a sensor-based method that accurately, reliably, and comprehensively captures crane motions in real-time; 2) computationally efficient algorithms for fusing and processing sensing data (e.g., distance, angle, acceleration) from different types of sensors; 3) an approach that integrates crane motion data with known as-is environment data to detect hazards associated with lifting tasks; and 4) a strategy that effectively presents crane operator with crane motion information and warn them with potential hazards. A prototype system was developed and tested on a real crane in a field environment. The results show that the system is able to continuously and accurately monitor crane motion in real-time.

The purpose of this study is to design a toilet lifting seat to prevent falls accidents in the elderly while using the toilet. Prior to design, laws and national standards related to restroom use were investigated and the available space for the assistive devices to be installed was determined. In additions, considering the body size and operating range of the elderly, the optimal final position of the toilet seat is set so that users can use it more safely and conveniently without external help. Moreover, in order to provide an effective standing assistance function, a complex 4-bar link structure was applied to enable simultaneous seat elevation and angle adjustment when operating the device, and the appropriate link shape and dimensions were determined using a linkage program and UG NX. FEA analysis using ANSYS Workbench is performed to ensure the robustness of the stretched linkage and the feasibility of the lifting seat is verified through fabrication.

This paper deals with the evaluation of structural safety to fatigue strength of marine propeller blades having high skew angle and operating in irregular wake field. The determination of the optimum skew angle of a propeller blade is one of the important task at the initial design stage especially in the case of high speed vessel such as container ships. A computer program system has been developed to evaluate the structural safety to fatigue strength and has been applied to several propeller blades with varying skew angle within a wide range. In the parametric study the pressure acting on the blade surface is calculated using the non-lineal lifting surface theory and the structural analysis is performed using MSC/NASTRAN. The relationship between skew angle and structural safety to fatigue strength is investigated and this paper ends with describing the optimum skew angle of a propeller blade.

The aerodynamic analysis of a $6{\times}6$ counter-rotating propfan around a missile-like-body has been completed analytically using a frequency domain panel method. The present method requires Fourier transformation of flow field around the propfan in computing the velocities normal to the propfan lifting surfaces. The aerodynamic performance curve is determined by angle of attack and nonuniform inflow conditions. The inflow conditions result from the variations of missile flight speed, angle of attack, propfan location relative to control surfaces and control surface deflection angle. The two cases of propfan location relative to control surface, front and behind, are analyzed and the aerodynamic results are presented.

The effects of free surface and a strut on the lifting characteristics on a fin attached at the mid-chord of the strut are investigated experimentally in a circulating water channel. Variation of lift force on the fin is investigated with respect to free stream velocity(V), angle of attack of the fin(${\alpha}$) and ratio of the submergence depth of the fin to the chord of the fin(H/C). Attentions are focused on the lifting characteristics of the fin at shallow depths of submergence. Visualization of the free surface deformation along the strut and of the streamline about the fin is made in order to examine the inflow angle to the fin. Lift force on the fin alone i.e. in absence of the strut is also measured to investigate the difference in lifting characteristics of the fin caused by the strut. The results show that lift forces over the fin are largely affected by a free surface in the case of small submergence ratios(HiC<3.0). For HiC>5.0, the effects of the free surface are negligibly small. The inflow angle to the fin is significantly influenced by the strut and flow speed at the shallow depths of submergence. The deformation of the free surface is largely governed by the waves generated by the strut. However, for small submergence depths, the effects of the fin are found also significant.
This paper presents dynamic responses of disk flutter and bump in HDD slider. The slider is modeled for three degree-of-freedom systems, which are capable of lifting, pitching, and rolling motions. In numerical analysis, loads from air pressure, preload and static moments from the slider, and stiffness and damping coefficients of the suspension are considered for investigating the dynamic characteristics analysis. The numerical results are presented as functions of typical parameters such as a disk velocity, stiffness and damping coefficients of the suspension, and skew angle.
The flow simulations around ducted-prop of tilt-duct aircraft were conducted in this study. For the investigation of aerodynamic characteristics of various configurations of duct, the axisymmetric flow calculation method combined with actuator disk model for prop were used. The rapid two-dimensional calculation and fast grid generation enable aerodynamic analysis for various duct configurations in a very short time and anticipated to active role in optimal configuration design of duct exposed to various flight modes. For the case of angle of attack or tilt angle, the three dimensional flow calculation is conducted using the three dimensional grid simply generated by just revolving the axisymmetric grid around center axis. Through the three dimensional calculation around duct, the aerodynamic effectiveness of duct as a lifting surface in airplane mode was investigated. The flow calculations around the control vane (wing) installed in the rear section of duct were conducted The aerodynamic data of wing were compared with the data of the ducts to evaluate the aerodynamic effectiveness of ducts.
