Rail-pad is an important and readily replaceable component of a railway track, as it is the elastic layer between the rail and the sleeper. Characteristics and useful lifetime prediction of rail-pad was very important in design procedure to assure the safety and reliability. In this paper, the degradation of rail pad properties as a function of their in-service life is studied with a view of developing a technique for predicting the optimum period of track maintenance with regard to pad replacement. In order to investigate the useful lifetime, the accelerate test were carried out. Accelerated test results changes as the threshold are used for assessment of the useful life and time to threshold value were plotted against reciprocal of absolute temperature to give the Arrhenius plot. By using the acceleration test, several useful lifetime prediction for rail-pads were proposed.
In this study, the characteristic lifetime of power facilities such as power transformers and GIS were investigated as the basis of power facility asset management. It is difficult to obtain the operation and failure data of the facilities in Korea. Therefore, the number of failures of the electric power facilities was calculated from the operation data and hazard rate shown in the overseas literatures, and the statistical analysis was performed using the Weibull distribution function. As a result of extracting and analyzing the data of the UK National Grid for power transformers, the characteristic lifetime (scale parameter) of 116.45 years was considered to be a very appropriate value for power transformer management and can be used as a comparative data of the analysis of the domestic transformers. As for the GIS, based on the Bays and Bay-Years data and the hazard rate according to the operation years of the 123kV GIS in Germany, it is found out that the characteristic lifetime of GIS is not so meaningful. It is necessary to decide a maintenance strategy and lifetime expectancy considering the characteristics of the design, materials and manufacturing process of GIS.
Purpose: The purpose of this study is to introduce regression method in the presence of competing risks and to show how you can use the method with hypothetical data. Methods: Survival analysis has been widely used in biostatistics division. But the same method has not been utilized in reliability division. Especially competing risks, where more than a couple of causes of failure occur and the occurrence of one event precludes the occurrence of the other events, are scattered in reliability field. But they are not utilized in the area of reliability or they are analysed in the wrong way. Specifically Kaplan-Meier method is used to calculate the probability of failure in the presence of competing risks, thereby overestimating the real probability of failure. Hence, cumulative incidence function is introduced. In addition, sample competing risks data are analysed using cumulative incidence function along with some graphs. Lastly we compare cumulative incidence functions with regression type analysis briefly. Results: We used cumulative incidence function to calculate the survival probability or failure probability in the presence of competing risks. We also drew some useful graphs depicting the failure trend over the lifetime. Conclusion: This research shows that Kaplan-Meier method is not appropriate for the evaluation of survival or failure over the course of lifetime in the presence of competing risks. Cumulative incidence function is shown to be useful in stead. Some graphs using the cumulative incidence functions are also shown to be informative.
Degradation diagnosis of XLPE insulated URD cables was accomplished through out new method, which was to be analyzed by non-electrical experiments and synthesized by degradation points. To supplement this method, It was also carried out using several electrical analyses. Tan$\delta$ had commonly a different tendency by means oftemperature and frequency and also appeared higher at the outer part rather than innerpart of insulator. PD-q increased generally in proportion to the applied voltage andshowed regular patterns in relation to the thickness of insulator. Breakdown voltageswere measured and breakdown lifetimes were predicted appling for Weibull distribution function. As a result, breakdown lifetime in failure cables was shorter up to$\fraction one-third$ times than that in general cables. It was very available to estimate cable degradation using above method, but it needs further study on XLPE insulated URD cables in order to improve reliability.

In this paper, the problem of testing exponentiality against net decreasing variance residual lifetime (NDVRL) classes of life distributions is investigated. For this property a nonparametric test is presented based on kernel method. The test is presented for complete and right censored data. Furthermore, Pitman's asymptotic relative efficiency (PARE) is discussed to assess the performance of the test with respect to other tests. Selected critical values are tabulated. Some numerical simulations on the power estimates are presented for proposed test. Finally, numerical examples are presented for the purpose of illustrating our test.
In this paper, we introduce the inverted exponentiated Weibull (IEW) distribution which contains exponentiated inverted Weibull distribution, inverse Weibull (IW) distribution, and inverted exponentiated distribution as submodels. The proposed distribution is obtained by the inverse form of the exponentiated Weibull distribution. In particular, we explain that the proposed distribution can be interpreted by Marshall and Olkin's book (Lifetime Distributions: Structure of Non-parametric, Semiparametric, and Parametric Families, 2007, Springer) idea. We derive the cumulative distribution function and hazard function and calculate expression for its moment. The hazard function of the IEW distribution can be decreasing, increasing or bathtub-shaped. The maximum likelihood estimation (MLE) is obtained. Then we show the existence and uniqueness of MLE. We can also obtain the Bayesian estimation by using the Gibbs sampler with the Metropolis-Hastings algorithm. We also give applications with a simulated data set and two real data set to show the flexibility of the IEW distribution. Finally, conclusions are mentioned.
This research deriving the lifetime distribution function of embank as one of main components in reservoir was carried out by mining the data of precise safety diagnosis in 1995 to 2001 as one of researches that were performed for determining the propriety for making item at design for planning and considering optimal maintenance strategy for service life through acquiring the system function of reservoir as main resource for irrigation and analyzing the life cycle cost of it.
The objective of this research is to verify the quantitative efficiency of a bimanual robotic task. Bimanual robots can realize dexterous and complicated motions using two cooperating arms. However, its motion planning and control method are not simple for implementing flexible tasks such as assembly. In this paper, the proposed motion planning method is used to find an optimal solution satisfying a designed cost function and constraints with regard to the kinematics and redundancy of the bimanual robot. The simulation results show that the lifetime of the manipulator can be changed by the proposed cost function consisting of angular velocity and angular acceleration of each joint in the same assembly task.
This paper presents an accelerated life test for burnout of tungsten filament of incandescent lamp. From failure analyses of field samples, it is shown that their root causes are local heating or hot sports in the filament caused by tungsten evaporation and wire sag. Finite element analysis is performed to evaluate the effect of vibration and impact for burnout, but any points of stress concentration or structural weakness are not found in the sample. To estimate the burnout life of lamp, an accelerated life test is planned by using quality function deployment and fractional factorial design, where voltage, vibration, and temperature are selected as accelerating variables. We assumed that Weibull lifetime distribution and a generalized linear model of life-stress relationship hold through goodness of fit test and test for common shape parameter of the distribution. Using accelerated life testing software, we estimated the common shape parameter of Weibull distribution, life-stress relationship, and accelerating factor.
