Simultaneous Analysis of Conazole Fungicides in Garlic by Q-TOF Mass Spectrometer Coupled with a Modified QuEChERS Method

  • BACKGROUND: The conazoles, difenoconazole, diniconazole, hexaconazole, penconazole and tetraconazole are a large class of synthetic fungicides used extensively for foliage and seed treatments in agricultural crops. The extensive use of conazoles has brought concerns on the potentiality of environmental contamination and toxicity. Thus studies on the development of methods for monitoring the conazoles are required. METHODS AND RESULTS: A modified quick, easy, effective, rugged and safe (QuEChERS) method was involved in sample preparation. Quadrapole time of flight mass spectrometer (Q-TOF MS) in electron spray ionization (ESI) mode was employed to determine conazoles in garlic samples. The limit of detection (LOD) and limit of quantification (LOQ) of conazoles by Q-TOF-MS ranged from 0.001 to 0.002 mg/L and 0.002 to 0.005 mg/L, respectively. Q-TOF-MS analysis exhibited less than 2.6 ppm error of accurate mass measurements for the detection of conazoles spiked at 0.05 mg/L in garlic matrix. Recovery values of conazoles fortified in garlic samples at 0.02, 0.05 and 0.1 mg/L were between 79.2 and 106.2% with a maximum 11.8% of standard deviation. No detectable conazoles were found in the domestic market samples by using the Q-TOF-MS method. CONCLUSION(s): High degree of confirmation for conazoles by accurate mass measurements demonstrated that Q-TOF-MS analysis combined with a QuEChERS method may be applicable to simultaneous determination of conazoles in garlic samples.

  • The greatest concern of vapor/gas respirators is when to exchange chemical cartridges, but it is very difficult to estimate the breakthrough time of them in the workplace spot due to so many factors influencing on breakthrough. There needs to study on estimating cartridge exchange period available practically in the spot, even if it is not precise. In the previous study, authors suggested the method on estimating service-life of chemical cartridges using cartridges discarded after use. This followed study was to estimate exchange period for chemical cartridges using comparison of concentrations between Korean Occupational Exposure Limits (KOELs) and odor thresholds of chemicals. Chemicals were divided into four groups, I, II, III and IV groups. Group I chemicals are relatively safe if cartridges are just or slightly delayed exchanged when smelling since odor thresholds were less than 0.5 times KOELs. Odor threshold of Group II chemicals are 0.5~2.0 times KOELs and potentially hazardous if cartridges are exchanged when smelling. Those chemicals should be conducted program on estimating service-life of cartridges, which was just previously published (J Kor Soc Occup Environ Hyg 2008;18(3) 204-215). Group III chemicals (odor thresholds are more than 2.0 times KOELs) and Group IV chemicals (odorless or no data for smelling) must be performed the above mentioned program before cartridges. Even if this method on cartridge exchange using odor threshold is practically widely used in the workplace spot in the present, program on estimating service-life of cartridges is recommended for all chemicals to reduce potentially hazards.

  • 구술은 생존자의 기억을 통해 재현된 내용을 기록화 시키는 작업으로 구술채록은 구술자, 면담자, 촬영자, 녹취자 등의 협업을 통해 수행된다. 따라서 구술기록물은 생산 당시의 맥락이 표현되는 것이 중요하며 구술기록물 수집을 위한 기획, 구술기록물 수집, 보존 및 관리가 체계적으로 이루어져야 한다. 이러한 문제의식에서 시작된 본 연구에서는 구술기록물 중에서도 여성구술생애기록물의 특성을 잘 반영할 수 있도록 메타 데이터의 개념 모델을 설계하고 이를 통하여 요소들을 추출 하였다. 여성구술생애기록물 관련 기획부터 생산, 보존, 관리, 이용에 이르는 기록 관리의 전 과정을 포함하여 계층으로 분류하였으며, 전거레코드와 주제 시소러스를 통해 '여성'의 특징을 표현할 수 있는 시스템을 제안하였다.

자산형성프로그램을 이용한 저소득가정의 탄력성 형성 과정에서의 가정자원 관련 경험 (Experiences of Family Resources in Resilience Development Process for Low-Income Families Participating in Asset Building Program)

  • This study examines the effect of family resources on low-income families by exploring their holistic experience of poverty to the formation of resilience. A grounded theory approach is utilized to structure process from their experience of poverty as well as the use of social welfare services to the formation of resilience. This study targets 17 families involved in the pilot project for the beneficiaries of an asset building program in Seoul. In accordance with open coding and a paradigm model by the result of axial coding, 86 concepts, 23 sub-category, and nine categories are produced. These categories are classified into the causal condition (a tough life due to poverty), contextual condition (being the recipient of an asset building program), intervening conditions (interpersonal resources and effects of accumulated time or experience), central phenomenon (a will to live and overcome poverty), actions/interactions (active behavior and change of attitude), and consequences (change of asset levels and increased efficacy in their lives). The integrating categories identify the core category as 'the process of making a resilient life out of the power to live' and a final process model is organized. The results suggest crucial implications to develop comprehensive policies to address poverty issues for low-income families with a strength-based approach.

일본의 그룹하우스에 관한 사례연구 (A Case Study on one of the Group House for the Elderly in Japan)

  • The nursing-care insurance system started in April, 2000 in Japan. It was a kind of business opportunities for a lot of private entrepreneurs. They came into this care service business from another type of business rapidly. They opened the pay nursing homes with 24 hour nursing. However, the expense load of the nursing-care insurance system was large, local governments started controlling on total numbers of facilities with 24 hours nursing in 2006. So the group houses besides the pay nursing home without nursing care are paid to attention. The pay nursing home has been often managed by the nursing business. Most of the group houses are managed by community based NPO. This study is a case study by the visit and the interview form for one of the group houses. The group house "Shalom Tsukimino" in Kanagawa started operations comparatively at early time among them. Through the study we recognized that a lot of people were helping the NPO as a community service. So they can manage the group house and people who live there get the services with low cost. They show that they separate residence and nursing and use the community service efficiently. We can find a new direction in this case for the life in elderly.

수명분포가 지수화-지수분포를 따르는 소프트웨어 신뢰모형 특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Characteristics of Software Reliability Model Using Exponential-Exponential Life Distribution)

  • In this paper, we applied the shape parameters of the exponentialized exponential life distribution widely used in the field of software reliability, and compared the reliability properties of the software using the non-homogeneous Poisson process in finite failure. In addition, the average value function is also a non-decreasing form. In the case of the larger the shape parameter, the smaller the estimated error in predicting the predicted value in comparison with the true value, so it can be regarded as an efficient model in terms of relative accuracy. Also, in the larger the shape parameter, the larger the estimated value of the coefficient of determination, which can be regarded as an efficient model in terms of suitability. So. the larger the shape parameter model can be regarded as an efficient model in terms of goodness-of-fit. In the form of the reliability function, it gradually appears as a non-increasing pattern and the higher the shape parameter, the lower it is as the mission time elapses. Through this study, software operators can use the pattern of mean square error, mean value, and hazard function as a basic guideline for exploring software failures.

  • 악성 골종양의 치료의 주된 목적은 장기 생존기간을 연장 및 삶의 질적 개선이나, 소아의 경우 골격 성장이 지속되어 종양 치료 후 성장 완료 시 나타나는 하지 부동(leg length discrepancy)이 치료에 있어 중요한 문제 중 하나이다. 성장기 소아의 하지 부동을 치료하기 위해서는 먼저 소아의 정상적인 성장에 대한 정확한 이해가 필요하며, 성장 과정에서의 하지 부동의 정도를 예측하는 것은 이에 대한 수술적 치료의 시기 및 방법의 선택에 있어 필수적이다. 또한 이러한 성장 예측 방법들을 적절히 사용하기 위해서는 지속적인 추시 관찰이 필수적이므로 환아의 부모와의 긴밀한 협조 또한 중요할 것으로 생각된다.

국방 CALS를 위한 IWSDB 구축에 관한 연구 (The study on the construction of IWSDB for National Defense CALS)

  • This study aims to develop an approach to construct IWSDB for National Defense CALS. Along with the introduction of Korean version of CALS conception, it is essential to analyze the national defense system with a new information technology for the construction of IWSDB. A long-tenn goal of CALS is to construct fully Integrated Data Environment (IDE) and establish IWSDB for the application of CALS conception to the life cycle management of weapon system. IWSDB is a set of databases that contain digital data. It supports common interface of data objects and databases throughout the life cycle management of weapon system, including design, engineering, analysis, manufacturing, operation, and logistics. etc. The goal of this study is threefold. First, we propose a right direction for the establishment of Integrated Data Environment. For the integrated database technology, we use the five schema architecture and the distributed object oriented technology that will lead to the "share of data." Second, we present the most effective IWSDB architecture for defense CALS, which will provide the efficient data sharing by business process modeling. Third, we suggest that IWSDB should be constructed based on the process which is related to the acquisition and logistics of weapon system for the national defense, and at the same time it should be implemented with GITIS for government agencies and CITIS for the industries in order to obtain the efficient data sharing.

  • The object of this study is to investigate the definite method for pitting damaged surfaces. Pitting is a sort of fatigue damages and it is made by a repetitive load. For a judgment between damages or not, sensing vibrations of test equipment is simple. However, it is not only difficult to observe a growth of pitting but also impossible to detect the juncture of initial pitting. Therefore, a method for the pitting damaged area measuring technique was effectively implemented by Two Roller Machine. The change of surface damaged area was measured by an optical microscope in regular time and calculated by the use of dark and bright ratio of test specimens' pictures taken by optical microscope. In conclusion, S - N Curves gained by Failure rate - Cycle graph was led and the curves are able to be chosen as occasion demands for a failure area percentage.

Computer-Aided Drug Discovery in Plant Pathology

  • Control of plant diseases is largely dependent on use of agrochemicals. However, there are widening gaps between our knowledge on plant diseases gained from genetic/mechanistic studies and rapid translation of the knowledge into target-oriented development of effective agrochemicals. Here we propose that the time is ripe for computer-aided drug discovery/design (CADD) in molecular plant pathology. CADD has played a pivotal role in development of medically important molecules over the last three decades. Now, explosive increase in information on genome sequences and three dimensional structures of biological molecules, in combination with advances in computational and informational technologies, opens up exciting possibilities for application of CADD in discovery and development of agrochemicals. In this review, we outline two categories of the drug discovery strategies: structure- and ligand-based CADD, and relevant computational approaches that are being employed in modern drug discovery. In order to help readers to dive into CADD, we explain concepts of homology modelling, molecular docking, virtual screening, and de novo ligand design in structure-based CADD, and pharmacophore modelling, ligand-based virtual screening, quantitative structure activity relationship modelling and de novo ligand design for ligand-based CADD. We also provide the important resources available to carry out CADD. Finally, we present a case study showing how CADD approach can be implemented in reality for identification of potent chemical compounds against the important plant pathogens, Pseudomonas syringae and Colletotrichum gloeosporioides.
