  • Purpose: This study was done to explore experiences of persons living through the periods of cancer diagnosis, treatment, and self-care. Methods: With permission, texts of 29 cancer survival narratives (8 men and 21 women, winners in contests sponsored by two institutes), were analyzed using Kang's Korean-Computerized-Text-Analysis-Program where the commonly used Korean-Morphological-Analyzer and the 21st-century-Sejong-Modern-Korean-Corpora representing laymen's Korean-language-use are connected. Experiences were explored based on words included in 100 highly-used-morphemes. For interpretation, we used 'categorizing words by meaning', 'comparing use-rate by periods and to the 21st-century-Sejong-Modern-Korean-Corpora', and highly-used-morphemes that appeared only in a specific period. Results: The most highly-used-word-morpheme was first-person-pronouns followed by, diagnosis treatment-related- words, mind-expression-words, cancer, persons-in-meaningful-interaction, living and eating, information-related-verbs, emotion-expression- words, with 240 to 0.8 times for layman use-rate. 'Diagnosis-process', 'cancer-thought', 'things-to-come-after-diagnosis', 'physician husband', 'result-related-information', 'meaningful-things before diagnosis-period', and 'locus-of-cause' dominated the life of the diagnosis-period. 'Treatment', 'unreliable-body', 'husband people mother physician', 'treatment-related-uncertainty', 'hard-time', and 'waiting-time represented experiences in the treatment-period. Themes of living in the self-care-period were complex and included 'living-as-a-human', 'self-managing-of-diseased-body', 'positive-emotion', and 'connecting past present future'. Conclusion: The results show that the experience of living for persons with cancer is influenced by each period's own situational-characteristics. Experiences of the diagnosis and treatment-period are negative disease-oriented while that of the self-care period is positive present-oriented.

  • In this paper, we try to make a pleasant environment by adjusting the fan moving by temperature and humidity in hot and humid room. To do this, we propose a fuzzy-based fan control using room temperature and humidity, collect environment data such as indoor temperature and humidity using Arduino, transmit it to Bluetooth communication, and adjust the operation time of fan according to fuzzy logic. To do this, connect a temperature and humidity sensor to the Arduino hardware, write the source code using the Arduino program on your computer, and code it in Arduino. Then, the environmental data obtained after collecting environmental data such as humidity from Arduino is transferred to the Arduino Control Module through Bluetooth communication. We use the fuzzy logic to control the time of fan operation according to environmental data such as temperature and humidity. At the end of this process, the fan will operate according to temperature and humidity to create a pleasant environment. Through this study, Arduino was simpler and easier to use than I thought, and I think it's easy to use and can be used in real life by using Arduino hardware, data acquisition, fuzzy logic, and control.

  • Background: During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, the everyday use of face masks massively increased to prevent the spread of infection. Many people complain of ear pain and erosion when wearing a mask for extended periods of time. If prolonged mask usage is uncomfortable for ordinary people, a question arises-how much more inconvenient must mask wearing be for patients with a full-thickness skin graft (FTSG) donor site in the retroauricular region? Herein, we evaluated complications related to face mask use in 27 patients with a retroauricular FTSG donor site, with the goal of clarifying whether the retroauricular region is still an appropriate FTSG donor site in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: Complications in 27 patients treated by FTSGs harvested from the retroauricular region from 2019 to 2021 were investigated. A questionnaire comparing the normal and the operated sides was administered. Pain, itching, soreness, deformity, and symmetry were further investigated. Results: Pain and itching were the only observed complications. The operated side was slightly more painful than the normal side in four patients (14.8%), and four patients (14.8%) reported itching on the operated side. However, all patients who experienced complications stated that the pain or itching did not interfere with mask wearing. Most symptomatic patients were older than 60 years of age (23.8%, p= 0.185) and wore masks for longer periods of time (28.5%, p= 0.326). Conclusion: Few retroauricular donor site-related complications occurred, and none of these complications caused inconvenience in daily life. Therefore, in the COVID-19 pandemic, the use of the retroauricular region as an FTSG donor site remains appropriate.

  • This study attempted to assess the durability of the trend in increasing childcare time and to get some clues based on research findings to make efficient policy interventions in case there is a need to continue or reverse course for such trend. In doing so, a total of 9,668 diaries from the 2004, 2009, and 2014 Korean Time Use Survey were analyzed targeting parents with a preschooler as their eldest child. Parental time was regressed on parents' weekly work hours, mother's relative income, parents' education and gender role attitudes. Furthermore, increase in parental childcare time was decomposed into parts that were attributable to differences in the means and slopes of associated factors. Analytic results revealed that; parents' weekly work hours were associated with time spent on childcare from 2004 to 2014; the negative relationship between mother's relative earnings and her childcare time in 2004 and 2009 was reversed to a positive one in 2014; parent's education had stronger positive effects on father's than on mother's childcare time; parents' gender role attitudes had a weak association with childcare time; social and cultural changes such as decrease in work hours, higher education, more egalitarian gender role attitudes, and rise in women's wages contributed to the increase in parental childcare time, but in a different way for mothers and fathers. By taking into account the social and cultural context behind the changes, this study is able to provide a more constructive implications for childcare policy in Korea.

This study aimed to classify middle and high school students according to amount of time they spend playing games and analyze relationship domestic factors. Weekday game times and environmental factors of the adolescents in Korea. The group with average game time of 30 min, 0:30-1:30 hours, 1:30-3:00 hours, over 4:00 hours. Subjects in this study were 6,487 middle and high school students. For the category "thoughts about game characters", the group with average game time of 1:30~3:00 hours replied "not at all" but the group with average game time of over 4:00 hours replied "sometimes", which was significantly different from the previous group. Similarly, for the category "lack of time for homework", the group with average game time of 1:30~3:00 hours replied "not at all", which significantly differed from the "sometimes" response from the group with average game time. For satisfaction with interest, "average" was the most frequent response from all the groups. Analyzing correlation of factors influencing game addiction in subjects with game time showed that factors related to game addiction diagnosis and academic performance were especially different in the group with average game time of over 4:00 hours compared to other groups. Nowadays internet has taken a large and significant part of our life such that a life without internet is hard to imagine, and our dependency on internet has risen at the same time. Accordingly, education on appropriate utilization and correct usage of internet to youths who lack self-control and judgment is very needed.

  • Mobile nodes are used for prolonging the life-time of the entire wireless sensor networks and many studies that use drones to collected data have been actively conducted with the development of drone related technology. In case of associating a drone and tactical wireless sensor networks, real-time feature and efficiency are improved. The previous studies so focus on reducing drone's flight distance that the energy consumption of sensor nodes is unbalanced. This unbalanced energy consumption accelerates the network partition and increases drone's flight distance. In this paper, we proposed a new selection scheme considered drone's flight distance and nodes' life-time to solve this problem when rendezvous nodes that collect data from their cluster and directly communicate with a drone are selected.

  • Most of the SNS users argue that they feel techno-stress or digital fatigue when they use SNS. As the relationships in the SNS expand, users may feel work overload, digital fatigue, and techno-stress which are caused by the time and effort for the retaining the existing relationships established via SNS. The SNS activities require users' time and effort to update their profiles and the current news of them, responding to online friends' contents. Thus, more relationships they have, more stress they can feel. This study tries to examine the key factors that can affect subjective well-being of individuals in Social Network Service (SNS) usage. Therefore, this study, based on the previous literature, investigates what the sources of SNS stress are and how SNS stress and flow affect subjective well-being of SNS users. Major findings of this study from an empirical analysis with 201 SNS user respondents who have accessed SNS at least one time within one month are as follows. First, perceived opportunity cost and reputation recognition in SNS usage were found to have significant effects on negative emotion. Second, individual's flow in SNS was significantly affected by challenges and interactions, and had a significant impact on positive emotion. However, SNS users' flow did not show a positive relationship with their satisfaction of life. This study contributes to the expansion of theoretical discussion about the effect of individual's SNS usage on quality of life in validating whether SNS usage can bring individuals subjective well-being. Implications of the study findings and future research directions are also discussed.

  • The importance of energy harvesting technique is increasing due to the elevated level of demand for sustainable power sources for wearable device applications. In this study, we developed an Energy Harvesting wearable Platform(EH-P) architecture which is used in the design of a multi-energy source based on TENG. The proposed switching circuit produces power with higher current at lower voltage from energy harvesting sources with lower current at higher voltage. This can powers microcontrollers for a short period of time by using PV and TENG complementarily placed under hard conditions for the sources such as indoors. As a result, the whole interface circuit is completely self-powered with this makes it possible to run of sensing on a Wearable device platform. It was possible to increase the wearable device life time by supplying more than 29% of the power consumption to wearable devices. The results presented in this paper show the potential of multi-energy harvesting platform for use in wearable harvesting applications, provide a means of choosing the energy harvesting source.
