  • This study attempts to investigate what systematic support is needed for foreign national students studying in South Korea by analyzing the relationship between foreign national students' life satisfaction and experiences of discrimination. The study utilized neo-racism as a theoretical framework and assumed that foreign national students' experiences of discrimination may lower life satisfaction while disrupting related policies to be effective. Cluster sampling was used to collect surveys, and a total number of 322 cases were analyzed. The study result reveals that experiences of discrimination resulting from students' nationality and Korean language pronunciation led to low life satisfaction in general. Based on the findings, the authors suggest ways to promote awareness around (un)intentional discriminatory actions both at institutional and political levels.

Method: In-depth interviews were done with five participants from Nov. 1997 to Feb. 1998. Data was recorded and analyzed by Colazzi's method. Result: Significant statements were extracted from the data resulting in 4 themes and 11 concepts. The concepts were: 'lack of information', 'unable to anticipate the outcome', 'reaffirmation of need', 'financial strain', 'emotional suppression', 'change of social relationships', 'physical fatigue', 'blaming oneself or God', 'trying different ways', 'famous place shopping', and 'praying to God'. The significant themes of the participants' experiences with IVF emerged as: "uncertainty", "burden", "blaming" and "vigorous desire". • Objectives : The purpose of this study is to explore the experiences of traditional korean medical doctors (TKMD) who have treated victims of sexual violence by collecting their qualitative data that cannot be obtained with statistical data. Methods : In-depth interviews were conducted with semi-structured questionnaires for each of 5 TKMDs who had experiences in treating sexual violence victims. For analysis, the interviews were recorded along with their facial expressions and actions during the interview process, and all collected data were analyzed by colaizzi's method. In each process, a 'phenomenological reduction' was applied. Results : The identity of TKMD's experience of treating sexual violence victims was structured into 25 themes, 9 theme clusters, and 4 categories. The 4 categories included 'Professionalism and sense of efficacy', 'Personal life experiences and mental trauma treatment experiences that are mutually influencing each other', 'Factors needed to increase TKMD's participation in treatment of sexual violence victims', 'Deriving the future strategy of traditional korean medicine'. Conclusions : This study derived the essence and meaning of TKMDs' experiences in treating sexual violence victims, and presented future directions of traditional korean medicine in this field. It is expected that the results of this study would be used as the basis for establishing the traditional korean medical support system for sexual violence victims in the context of the korean medical system.

  • Childcare support for working mothers is crucial for women's smooth transition into society, career development, and well-being. Based on interviews with 10 Korean working mothers with children aged 0-2, this paper explores the process of utilizing childcare support services, psychological experiences, and plans for work-life balance using the grounded theory analysis method. The analysis revealed three categories: the decision-making process before using the childcare services (past), experiences during the use of childcare support (present), and future plans for work-life balance (future). The decision-making process before using childcare support services consisted of the following categories: seeking information about childcare support services, having family discussions during the decision-making process, the proposer and decision-maker of the services, and the final decision on childcare support services. Experiences during the use of services included economic burdens, changes in postnatal career paths, disparities between expectations and the reality of pre- and post-childbirth, discrepancies between expectations and reality in work-family balance, factors affecting of quality of life, and the division of household and childcare responsibilities with husbands. Plans for future work-life balance included categories such as the desire for career advancement, the desire to maintain a career, the desire for temporary or reduced career commitment, and uncertainty regarding future career plans. Finally, the study investigated whether there were differences in the past and present service usage processes and experiences based on plans for future work-life balance. This research suggests the need for multidimensional support for working mothers' work-family balance and well-being, and highlights the need to reduce uncertainty about women's future careers.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate adolescents' individual and microsystem variables including relationships with parents and friends affecting adolescents' experiences of mobile social networking site (SNS) cyberbullying based on the human ecological perspective. Data came from 344 middle school students who lived with both their parents in the Seoul and Gyunggi areas. A multiple regression analysis showed that adolescents' characteristics, relationships with parents, and friends were associated with their experiences of mobile SNS cyberbullying. These findings suggest that good relationships with parents could be protective factors for adolescents to reduce mobile SNS cyberbullying. However, adolescents' characteristics including aggression, depression, and delinquent peers were positively associated with adolescents' experiences of mobile SNS cyberbullying. This study highlights that various environments are closely related to adolescent development.
