Development of Life Cycle Cost Estimation Software on the Aspect of Maintenance Strategies (유지보수관점에서의 수명주기비용예측 소프트웨어 개발)

  • Life cycle costing is one of the most effective cost approaches when we choose a solution from series of alternative so the least long-term cost ownership is achieved. Life cycle costing in railway industry has been focused on the prediction of investment for railway vehicles. But in today, the life cycle cost, LCC, prediction on the aspect of operation and maintenance cost through whole life cycle is highly necessary. In this paper, we present a strategy for the development of life cycle cost estimation software on the aspect of maintenance strategies of railway vehicle. For this purpose, we suggested a structure of LCC software based on the UNIFE LCC model. And we developed a pilot version of software to evaluate the LCC model that we suggested for railway vehicle. We performed LCC analysis on the brake module of metro vehicle in case study and concluded that the software and model developed in this research could enough to support engineers in choosing better cost effective solutions from many alternatives.

  • Enterprises or public organizations have invested in development of their information systems and operated them repeatedly. Since these information systems projects have unique characteristics such as technology sensitiveness, network effectiveness, embeddedness, and externality, these investment projects have been not taken care of in the field of administration and evaluation. And then, it is difficult to manage and monitor them. In this research, we propose a evaluation life cycle management model on the basis of result to evaluate information systems. This life cycle model with ten stages would furnish a guide to introduction of total evaluation systems.

Stochastic modelling and optimum inspection and maintenance strategy for fatigue affected steel bridge members

  • This paper presents a method for stochastic modelling of fatigue crack growth and optimising inspection and maintenance strategy for the structural members of steel bridges. The fatigue crack evolution is considered as a stochastic process with uncertainties, and the Gamma process is adopted to simulate the propagation of fatigue crack in steel bridge members. From the stochastic modelling for fatigue crack growth, the probability of failure caused by fatigue is predicted over the service life of steel bridge members. The remaining fatigue life of steel bridge members is determined by comparing the fatigue crack length with its predetermined threshold. Furthermore, the probability of detection is adopted to consider the uncertainties in detecting fatigue crack by using existing damage detection techniques. A multi-objective optimisation problem is proposed and solved by a genetic algorithm to determine the optimised inspection and maintenance strategy for the fatigue affected steel bridge members. The optimised strategy is achieved by minimizing the life-cycle cost, including the inspection, maintenance and failure costs, and maximizing the service life after necessary intervention. The number of intervention during the service life is also taken into account to investigate the relationship between the service life and the cost for maintenance. The results from numerical examples show that the proposed method can provide a useful approach for cost-effective inspection and maintenance strategy for fatigue affected steel bridges.

  • An advanced model for assessing life cycle cost of the facility containing several subdivisions has been proposed with systems engineering approach. This model evaluates the maintenance cost in the sphere of the safety as well as in that of its functionality. The proposed approach has been shown to be more reasonable and practical than existing models. The serviceability and reasonability have been proved through evaluating life cycle cost of the reservoir which is a representative agricultural facility. In addition, the proposed method is helpful to make a maintenance strategy using the survival probability in the point of safety and functionality.

  • The goal of this study is to develop a realistic methodology for determination of the Life-Cycle Cost (LCC)-effective optimal seismic retrofit and maintenance strategy of deteriorating bridges. The proposed methodology is based on the concept of minimum LCC which is expressed as the sum of present value of seismic retrofit costs, expected maintenance costs, and expected economic losses with the constraints such as design requirements and acceptable risk of death. The proposed methodology is applied to the LCC-effective optimal seismic retrofit and maintenance strategy of a steel bridge considered as a example bridge in the accompanying study, and various conditions such as corrosion environments and Average Daily Traffic Volumes (ADTVs) are considered to investigate the effects on total expected LCC. In addition, to verify the validity of the developed methodology, the results are compared with the existing methodology. From the numerical investigation, it may be positively expected that the proposed methodology can be effectively utilized as a practical tool for the decision-making of LCC-effective optimal seismic retrofit and maintenance strategy of deteriorating bridges.

  • This paper predicts how mobile Internet portal services will go ahead and what contents will be needed at the portal site. Mobile Internet interface needs to be concise and compressed because of the size of terminals Thus mobile internal service wants integrated portal service We study the service strategy for mobile internet portal Service according to the product life cycle Many Korean people who have used 'wired and fixed' Internet services and mobile phones want the mobile Internet portal to provide many attractive functions and high quality of service Thus we consider the current Korean mobile Internet service as the maturity phase of its life cycle The maturity phase needs the strategy of diversifying and focusing on, thus we recommend the hub portal model for Korean mobile Internet service, In this paper, we survey contents of mobile Internet portal service as a case study. With the result of the analysis, we present the promising contents as follows: video conference service, financial service, stock trading service, traffic information service, location map service, emergency rescue service, and so on.

  • Since many structures in the sea environment are damaged by chloride, appropriate repair strategy is required. Therefore in the paper, optimum period for the RC structure's repair is calculated with consideration of economic efficiency. Moreover, when the concrete members are repaired with the other material such as polymer mortar forr section restoration, their expected service life also calculated to predict more accurate repair period during the life span.

  • This study proposes a practical and realistic method to establish an optimal lifetime maintenance strategy for deteriorating bridges by considering the life-cycle performance as well as the life-cycle cost. The proposed method offers a set of optimal tradeoff maintenance scenarios among other conflicting objectives, such as minimizing cost and maximizing performance. A genetic algorithm is used to generate a set of maintenance scenarios that is a multi-objective combinatorial optimization problem related to the and the life-cycle cost and performance as separate objective functions. A computer program, which generates optimal maintenance scenarios, was developed based on the proposed method. The subordinate relation between bridge members has been considered to decide optimal maintenance sequence. The developed program has been used to present a procedure for finding an optimal maintenance scenario for steel-girder bridges on the Korean National Road. Through this bridge maintenance scenario analysis, it is expected that the developed method and program can be effectively used to allow bridge managers an optimal maintenance strategy satisfying various constraints and requirements.

  • The most important thing in the Tourist Market Segmentation is to find descriptive variables which can describe the changes of tourist demand properly. There are many descriptive variables. Among them, vital statistical variables were proved to be effective. The strongest variable but which was studied much less is the Family Life Cycle. This study will focus on the relation between Family Life Cycle and Travel Behavior of Destination Choice. In this study, I will verify the validity of Family Life Cycle as a descriptive variable of Tourist Market Segmentation, and try to find the meaningful variable at each steps. Therefore, The purpose of this study is to explain the relation between Family Life Cycle and Travel Behavior of Destination Choice, to verify the validity of Family Life Cycle as descriptive variable and to find the strategy to respond to the increase in quantity and diversity of quality of Tourist Market. The studies on the Family Life Cycle should be updated continuously according to the change of family structure and it should be understood as standard for Tourist Market Segmentation in the public and private sphere.
