UV-cured Polymer Solid Electrolyte Reinforced using a Ceramic-Polymer Composite Layer for Stable Solid-State Li Metal Batteries

  • In recent years, solid-state Li metal batteries (SSLBs) have attracted significant attention as the next-generation batteries with high energy and power densities. However, uncontrolled dendrite growth and the resulting pulverization of Li during repeated plating/stripping processes must be addressed for practical applications. Herein, we report a plastic-crystal-based polymer/ceramic composite solid electrolyte (PCCE) to resolve these issues. To fabricate the one-side ceramic-incorporated PCCE (CI-PCCE) film, a mixed precursor solution comprising plastic-crystal-based polymer (succinonitrile, SN) with garnet-structured ceramic (Li7La3Zr2O12, LLZO) particles was infused into a thin cellulose membrane, which was used as a mechanical framework, and subsequently solidified by using UV-irradiation. The CI-PCCE exhibited good flexibility and a high room-temperature ionic conductivity of over 10-3 S cm-1. The Li symmetric cell assembled with CI-PCCE provided enhanced durability against Li dendrite penetration through the solid electrolyte (SE) layer than those with LLZO-free PCCEs and exhibited long-term cycling stability (over 200 h) for Li plating/stripping. The enhanced Li+ transference number and lower interfacial resistance of CI-PCCE indicate that the ceramic-polymer composite layer in contact with the Li anode enabled the uniform distribution of Li+ flux at the interface between the Li metal and CI-PCCE, thereby promoting uniform Li plating/stripping. Consequently, the Li//LiFePO4 (LFP) full cell constructed with CI-PCCE demonstrated superior rate capability (~120 mAh g-1 at 2 C) and stable cycle performance (80% after 100 cycles) than those with ceramic-free PCCE.

  • 이 리뷰를 통하여, 휴대폰용 리튬이차전지의 최근 기술동향을 설명하였다. 휴대폰용 이차전지로는 니카드, 니켈-금속수소, 리튬이온 혹은 리튬이온폴리머의 세 가지 형태의 전지가 있으며, 리튬 이차전지가 에너지밀도 측면에서 가장 성능이 우수하다. 즉, 동일한 용량을 갖는 이차전지 가운데 가장 작고 가벼운 것은 리튬이차전지이다. 이러한 리튬이차전지의 시장은 매년 약 15%의 높은 성장을 기록하고 있다. 연구개발은 $LiFePO_4$를 포함하는 새로운 양극, $Li_4Ti_5O_{10}$, Si, 주석 등의 새로운 음극소재, 새로운 전해질과 안정성 확보에 관한 것을 중심으로 진행되고 있다.

전기 자동차 가상 플랫폼용 배터리 모델 개발 및 검증 (Development of a Battery Model for Electric Vehicle Virtual Platform)

  • In this paper, a battery model for electric vehicle virtual platform was developed. A battery model consisted of a battery cell model and battery thermal management system. A battery cell model was developed based on Randles equivalent circuit model. Circuit parameters in the form of 3D map data was obtained by charge-discharge experiment of Li-Polymer battery in various temperature condition. The developed battery cell model was experimentally verified by comparing voltages. Thermal management system model was also developed using heat generator, heat transfer and convection model, and cooling fan. For verification of the developed battery model in vehicle level, the integrated battery model was applied in to EV(electric vehicle) virtual platform, and virtual driving simulation using UDDS velocity profile was conducted. The accuracy of the developed battery model has been verified by comparing the simulation results from EV platform with the experimental data.

Poly(ethylene oxide)-Li계 고분자 전해질의 전기화학적 특성 및 물리적 성질 (Electrochemical Characteristics and Physical Properties of Poly(ethylene oxide)-Li based Polymer Electrolyte)

  • 분자량이 큰 Poly(ethylene oxide)[PEO] 고분자에 $LiClO_4$, $LiCF_3SO_3$ 등의 리튬염과 ethylene carbonate(EC), propylene carbonate(PC) 등의 가소제를 고정화시킨 고분자 전해질의 전기화학적 특성 및 물리적 성질을 조사하였다. 가소제가 첨가된 PEO-Li계 고분자 전해질은 상온에서 $10^{-4}S/cm$의 이온 전도도를 보였고 4.5 V(vs. $Li^+/Li$)까지 높은 전기화학적인 안정성을 나타냄으로써 리튬 2차전지에 적용 가능한 것으로 나타났다. 리튬염 및 가소제의 첨가에 따라 PEO의 결정상이 감소되었고 특히 $LiClO_4$, PC등이 $LiCF_3SO_3$, EC 등에 비하여 더 효과적인 것으로 나타났다. 리튬염의 농도가 증가할수록 고분자 전해질의 유리전이온도($T_g$)는 증가되었으며 반면에 융점온도($T_m$)는 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 가소제가 첨가된 고분자 전해질은 $6^{\circ}C$에서 결정화 되었다.

  • In this paper, we present a study on the 50kW class power station development using lithium-polymer battery. The 50kW class power station purposes to compensate for peak load using 326[V] lithium-polymer battery bank. The output voltage is 380[V] in three-phase, peak load compensation is controlled based on load power. Finally, a 50kW power station system is built to verify the experiment.

Thermally Crosslinked Polyimide Binders for Si-alloy Anodes in Li-ion Batteries

  • Silicon (Si) has attracted considerable attention due to its high theoretical capacity compared to conventional graphite anode materials. However, Si-based anode materials suffer from rapid capacity loss due to mechanical failure caused by large volume change during cycling. To alleviate this phenomenon, crosslinked polymeric binders with strong interactions are highly desirable to ensure the electrode integrity. In this study, thermally crosslinked polyimide binders were used for Si-alloy anodes in Li-ion batteries. The crosslinked polyimide binder was found to have high adhesion strength, resulting in enhanced electrode integrity during cycling. Therefore, the Si-alloy anodes with crosslinked polyimide binder provide enhanced electrochemical performance, such as Coulombic efficiency, capacity retention, and cycle stability.

  • The purpose of this study is to research and develop solid polymer electrolyte(SPE) for Li secondary battery. This paper describes effects of plasticizer addition and temperature dependence of conductivity of these PEO electrolytes. Adding propylene carbonate and ethylene carbonate to PEO-LiClO$_4$electrolyte, its conductivity was higher than PEO-LiClO$_4$ itself. Steady state current method and AC impedance used for the determination of transference number in PEO electrolyte film. The transference number of PEO$\_$8/LiClO$_4$PC$\_$5/EC$\_$5/ polymer electrolyte film is 0.45 at 60$^{\circ}C$.

Synthesis of LiFePO4 nano-fibers for cathode materials by electrospinning process

  • Nano-fibers of LiFePO4 were synthesized from a metal oxide precursor by adopting electrospinning method. After calcination of the above precursor nano-fibers at 800 ℃, LiFePO4 nano-fibers with a diameter of 300 ~ 800 nm, were successfully obtained. Measurement were performed using X-ray diffraction (XRD), fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FT-IR), videoscope, scanning electron microscope (SEM) and atomic force microscope (AFM), respectively, were performed to characterize the properties of the as-prepared materials. The results showed that the crystalline phase and morphology of the fibers were largely influenced the starting materials and electrospinning conditions.

Performance Assessment of a Lithium-Polymer Battery for HEV Utilizing Pack-Level Battery Hardware-in-the-Loop-Simulation System

  • A pack-level battery hardware-in-the-loop simulation (B-HILS) platform is implemented. It consists of dynamic vehicle models using PSAT and multiple control interfaces including real-time 3D driving and GPS mode. In real-time 3D driving mode, user can drive a virtual vehicle using actual drive equipment such as steering wheel and accelerator to generate the cycle profile of the battery. In GPS mode, actual road traffic and terrain effects can be simulated using GPS data while the trajectory is displayed on Google map. In the latter part of the paper, several performance tests of an actual lithium-polymer battery pack are carried out utilizing the developed system. All experiments are conducted as parts of actual development process of a commercial battery pack adopting 2nd generation Prius as a target vehicle model. Through the experiments, the low temperature performance and fuel efficiency of the battery are quantitatively investigated in comparison with the original nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) pack of the Prius.

  • 용매 N-methyl-2-pyrrolidone(NMP)과 dimethyl acetamide(DMAc)를 각각 사용하고 물을 비용매로 사용하는 상반전 기법에 의해, 실리카($SiO_2$)와 티타니아($TiO_2$) 나노입자가 각각 충진된 poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVdF-HFP) 고분자 전해질을 제조하고, 이를 고용량 양극재료인 $Li[Ni_{0.15}Co_{0.10}Li_{0.20}Mn_{0.55}]O_2$를 주성분으로 하는 양전극과 리튬금속 음전극 사이에 채용하는 리튬금속 고분자 2차전지를 제작하여 그 충방전 특성을 조사하였다. 고분자 전해질 제조에 사용한 용매에 상관없이 실리카 충진재의 함량이 40~50 wt%인 상반전막을 고분자 전해질로 적용하였을 때 가장 높은 방전용량(180 mAh/g)을 나타내었으며, 이 경우 대개 80 사이클까지 초기용량의 99% 정도의 지속성을 보이다가 그 이후 급격한 용량 감소를 보였다. 이 용량 감소는 상반전막이 보장하는 용량 유지능력이 더이상 발휘될 수 없는 상태로 고분자 전해질에 리튬 dendrite가 침적되었기 때문이라 생각된다.
