This paper studies on the recognition rate change with respect to illumination variance and the confidence level of PCA(Principal Component Analysis) based face recognition by measuring the cumulative match score of CMC(Cumulative Match Characteristic). We studied on the confidence level of the algorithm under illumination changes and selection of training images not only by testing multiple training images per person with illumination variance and single training image and but also by changing the illumination conditions of testing images. The experiment shows that the recognition rate drops for multiple training image case compared to single training image case. We, however, confirmed the confidence level of the algorithm under illumination variance by the fact that the training image which corresponds to the identity of testing image belongs to upper similarity lists regardless of illumination changes and the number of training images.

In this study, we investigated that consumers could differentiate between levels of claims and clarify how a visual aid influences consumer understanding of the different claim levels. We interviewed 2,000 consumers in 13 shopping malls on their perception of and confidence in different levels of health claims using seven point scales. The average confidence scores given by participants were 4.17 for the probable level and 4.07 for the possible level; the score for the probable level was significantly higher than that for the possible level (P < 0.05). Scores for confidence in claims after reading labels with and without a visual aid were 5.27 and 4.43, respectively; the score for labeling with a visual aid was significantly higher than for labeling without a visual aid (P < 0.01). Our results provide compelling evidence that providing health claims with qualifying language differentiating levels of scientific evidence can help consumers understand the strength of scientific evidence behind those claims. Moreover, when a visual aid was included, consumers perceived the scientific levels more clearly and had greater confidence in their meanings than when a visual aid was not included. Although this result suggests that consumers react differently to different claim levels, it is not yet clear whether consumers understand the variations in the degree of scientific support.
Purpose: This study was designed to determine visiting nurses' job performance and self confidence by career and number of visiting households. Methods: The subjects were 120 visiting nurses fully in charge of the visiting health care program working in 18 community health care centers, who were checked for 5 domains of visiting nurses' job, 39 tasks of job performance and self confidence. ANOVA test, Scheffe test and Pearson correlation coefficient were used for data analysis. Results: The level of job performance and self confidence indicated highest in understanding of the visiting health care program among 5 domains of visiting nurses' job. The level of job performance and self confidence indicated lowest in community resource connection. When nurses were classified by a career with approximately 5 years of working experience, nurses with a career of more than 5 years were highly significant. Job performance and self confidence were positively correlated. Conclusion: Based on the result of this study, it is recommended that the education program for newly hired nurses should be differentiated from that for visiting nurses with a career in order to improve quality of the visiting nursing program and capacity of residents' health care.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine undergraduate students' level of knowledge, attitude, and confidence toward patient safety. Methods: A descriptive survey design was used. The subjects consisted of 932 senior nursing students who have had clinical practice in nursing schools in a metropolitan city in Korea. The data were collected from March 4th to 28th in 2011. Knowledge, attitude, and confidence on patient safety were measured using self administered questionnaires. Data were analyzed with SPSS 18.0 using descriptive statistics, t-test, One-Way ANOVA, and Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: Knowledge of patient safety was relatively low and attitude and confidence were at moderate level. There were statistically significant differences in knowledge, attitude, and confidence toward patient safety according to gender, educational system, grades, satisfaction with nursing major or clinical practice, and experience of patient safety education or patient safety campaign. There was a significant positive correlation among knowledge, attitude and confidence on patient safety. Conclusion: The study findings suggests that concept and skills on patient safety need to be educated systematically during undergraduate curriculum linked with clinical practicum.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the balance confidence and balance ability among community-residing stroke patients. Methods: The sample for this study was a convenience sample obtained from patients who visited welfare centers for the disabled in three cities from October to December in 2009. The Activities-specific Balance Confidence Scale and Berg Balance Scale were used to measure confidence in task performance and balance ability. Results: The level of balance confidence and balance ability were low in these subjects. There was a significant relationship between balance confidence and balance ability (r=.424, p=.000). Subjects with less balance ability felt less balance confidence. Conclusion: Among community-residing stroke patients, falls are common. Falls prevention which may contribute to the incidence of fall and fall related injury should be part of stroke rehabilitation plan. Also, it is necessary that an intervention for falls prevention after stroke should take into account factors such as the balance confidence and balance ability.
A 15-minute questionnaire on breast-feeding was administered to the obstetric and pediatric residents and nurses in metropolitan academic training programs in Korea to assess their attitudes to and knowledge about breast-feeding and their confidence in managing breast-feeding problems. The questionnaires were self-administered and confidential and the participants was 279. Overall, the study participants indicated a supportive attitude toward breast-feeding. Nurses had a highest supportive attitude than obstetric and pediatric residents. Their self-confidence in this area was inappropriately high with 48% of total, 49% of obstetric, 42% of pediatric and 58% of nurses describing themselves as "confident" or "very confident" to manage common breast-feeding problems to compare their knowledge level answering only 46% of the questions correctly. However, nurses who did have continuing education about breast-feeding had significantly high in knowledge level. These health care professionals have extremely limited knowledge of breast-feeding management compared to their reported confidence. To be truly supportive of breast-feeding, health care professionals should receive didactic and clinical training to breast-feeding management.
A statistical procedure is developed to estimate the relative difference between two parameters each obtained from either true model or approximate model. Double sample procedure is applied to find the additional number of simulation runs satisfying the preassigned absolute precision of the confidence interval. Two types of parameters, mean and standard deviation, are considered as the performance measures and tried to show the validity of the model by examining both queues and inventory systems. In each system it is assumed that there are three distinct means and their own standard deviations and they form the simultaneous confidence intervals but with control in the sense that the absolute precision for each confidence interval is bounded on the limits with preassigned confidence level. The results of this study may contribute to some situations, for instance, first, we need a statistical method to compare the effectiveness between two alternatives, second, we find the adquate number of replications with any level of absolute precision to avoid the unrealistic cost of running simulation models, third, we are interested in analyzing the standard deviation of the output measure, ..., etc.

This study considers the design of life test sampling inspection plans by attributes for failure rate level qualification at selected confidence level. The lifetime distribution of products is assumed to be exponential. MIL-STD-690C and KS C 6032 standards provide this procedures. But these procedures have some questions to apply in the field. The cost of test and confidence level($1-{\beta}$ risk) are the problem between supplier and user. So, we suggest that the optimal life test sampling inspection plans using expected cost model considering product cost, capability, environmental test cost, etc.

In this paper, the maximum likelihood estimators and confidence intervals for parameters of Weibull distribution are derived under three level constant stress accelerated life tests and the assumption that a log quadratic relationship exits between stress and the scale parameter ${\theta}$. The compound linear plan proposed by Kim (2006) is used to allocate the test units at each stress level, which performed nearly as good as the optimum quadratic plan and had the advantage of simplicity. Some simulation studies are given.

We consider the empirical Bayes confidence intervals that attain a specified level of EB coverage for the scale parameter in the Burr distribution under type II censoring data. Also, we compare the coverage probabilities and the expected confidence interval lengths for these confidence intervals through simulation study.
